LeBron James was mercilessly roasted by fans for wearing these wild sunglasses at the ESPYs

The glasses, Bron. Get rid of the glasses.

Don’t let this headline fool you. LeBron James had himself a pretty incredible night at the ESPYs, all things considered.

The man won the ESPY for best record-breaking performance this season and was honored for becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. He also had his family there supporting him, as they’ve done every step of the way during his phenomenal NBA career.

Bron is a winner, man. He’s playing the game of life the right way. He’s amazing at his job. His family loves him and supports him. He’s always just doing the right things. It’s just awesome all the time.

OK, cool. Now that we’ve got all of the niceties out of the way, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. Those glasses, y’all. What was LeBron thinking?!?

LeBron popped out to the ESPYs in a pretty clean outfit. His suit, overall, was pretty dashing. There was one thing that threw people off, though — it was his shades.

He really came out here looking like Will.I.Am with the shades. The vibe is a supervillain. Doc Oc is the inspiration.

I’ll be honest, man. I don’t think these are actually bad. They’re actually kind of cool in a steampunk-y kind of way? I just…don’t know if this is the moment I’d wear these. It just wasn’t doing it for me here.

It didn’t do work for a lot of other folks, too. Fans absolutely roasted Bron for these.

Pat McAfee’s 3 best ESPYs roasts, including ripping Skip Bayless and his awful Damar Hamlin tweet

McAfee didn’t hold back.

Although there was technically no host of the 2023s ESPY awards on Wednesday night, new ESPN employee Pat McAfee basically served in the role.

And that meant he had to roast a bunch of people, as is the tradition in ESPYs lore.

McAfee isn’t one to hold back, as we’ve seen countless times on his show that’s now coming to ESPN. So he spent much of the monologue he delivered roasting folks left and right, including a certain sports TV personality and an ex-NFL quarterback who had sued McAfee before the suit was withdrawn.

Let’s run through those moments from the ESPYs:

What’s happening in Chiefs Kingdom?

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the ‘Best NFL Player’ at the 2023 ESPYs Awards on Wednesday night. The accolade came on the same day that the highly anticipated docuseries ‘Quarterback’, which features Mahomes extensively, premiered on Netflix.

These events mark one of the busiest days for Mahomes in recent months, but for the reigning MVP, they constitute just another day at the office. Check out those stories and more on today’s edition of Chiefs Check-in for the morning of Thursday, July 13:

Chiefs won ‘Best Team’ award at 2023 ESPYs

The #Chiefs won the “Best Team” award at the 2023 ESPYs on Wednesday night

The Kansas City Chiefs followed up their Super Bowl victory in February with a win in the “Best Team” category at the 2023 ESPYs. After overcoming adversity over the course of their 2022 campaign, the Chiefs rose to the top of the NFL pantheon by besting the Philadelphia Eagles on the biggest stage in all of sports.

Among those present to accept the award on the team’s behalf were defensive lineman Chris Jones, running back Isiah Pacheco, tight end Travis Kelce, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Kelce had presented the “Best Comeback Athlete” award earlier in the night, and Mahomes received the coveted “Best NFL Player” honor shortly after his teammate’s moment at center stage.

The title of “Best Team” is sure to stick with the Chiefs through training camp and the preseason as they look to prepare for the rigors that the coming football season holds for them. If they can duplicate last year’s results over the course of their grueling 17-game schedule in 2023, Kansas City has a legitimate chance to win this same accolade next year.

LeBron James confirming he’s not retiring anytime soon at the ESPYs will give you goosebumps

LeBron James isn’t retiring anytime soon, per LeBron James.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James confirmed that he’s not going to retire anytime soon in the best possible way during Wednesday night’s 2023 ESPYs.

After fielding rumors for some time about his future, James set the record straight during ESPN’s annual sports awards show by saying that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon as he tries to bring another title to the Lakers.

As he was recognized for breaking the NBA’s all-time scoring record this past season, James confirmed what we all basically knew about him not retiring in still-chilling fashion.

“I don’t care how many more points I score, or what I can and cannot do on the floor,” James said during his speech. “The real question for me is, ‘Can I play without cheating this game?’ The day I can’t give the game everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today.”

Like, c’mon. What a mic drop!

His announcement sent roars through the crowd, as even the fiercest LeBron James haters don’t want to see him go anywhere deep down.

He’s an absolute legend for a reason, and it’s great to hear him say in a public way that he’ll still be with us on the court for the time to come.

LeBron James’ daughter Zhuri hilariously ‘stopped’ her mom Savannah from swearing at the ESPYs

This was a really great bit from the James family at this year’s ESPYs.

During Wednesday night’s presentation of the ESPYs, LeBron James saw his family get in one of the best jokes of the night.

As Savannah James and her three children joined the stage to honor the Los Angeles Lakers star for breaking the NBA’s all-time scoring record, the matriarch of the James household decided to give her husband a very fitting, nearly NSFW tribute on-stage.

In what is clearly a planned bit, Savannah James began to say a compliment about LeBron James that would’ve hilariously ended in a swear word. Right before she said it, her daughter Zhuri stopped her to the crowd’s amusement.

LeBron himself got a kick out of the moment, which is surely one that will be talked about around the James’ family dinner table for some time. Zhuri James’ reaction was absolutely priceless, even if the moment was undoubtedly staged.

We’ve all wanted to stop our parents from embarrassing us in public from time to time, and this really funny bit from the James family shows that even the youngest in your family know when to throw up the caution flags.

LSU’s Angel Reese found the perfect way to bring back her famous title game taunt at the ESPYs

LSU’s Angel Reese did her famous taunt again at the ESPYs, and it was awesome.

At Wednesday night’s 2023 ESPYs ceremony, LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese brought back a gesture which with she has become synonymous.

While presenting one of the night’s many awards, Reese brought back her “you can’t see me” hand gesture that she used to taunt Iowa’s Caitlin Clark during this year’s NCAA women’s tournament championship.

While Clark was first to use it to intimidate her opponents during this year’s tournament, Reese found the perfect way to throw it back at Clark during this year’s title game. She has even recreated the move with LSU legends like Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase.

Reese didn’t let this year’s big sports awards show pass her by without giving the hand gesture a wonderful comeback.

Hey, if you’re Reese, and you’re on the best college women’s basketball team in the nation, you might as well have some fun with the move that helped make your championship run all the more exciting.

We have a feeling this won’t be the last time she uses it, especially if LSU plays Iowa again in next year’s tournament.

Disgraced Chiefs fan skewered in Pat McAfee’s opening monologue at ESPYs

A certain Chiefs superfan was the punchline of some not-so-funny jokes in Pat McAfee’s opening monologue at the 2023 ESPYs

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

Even as quarterback Patrick Mahomes dominated sports headlines on Wednesday at the 2023 ESPYs, the early part of the Kansas City Chiefs’ night came to be defined by disgraced superfan ChiefsAholic.

In host Pat McAfee’s opening monologue, a picture of ChiefsAholic was put on the big screen while the former punter cracked jokes at Kansas City’s expense.

The alleged misdeeds of the man behind the mask, Xaviar Babudar, at banks and credit unions across the country came to light late last year, when the superfan’s Twitter account went dark during Kansas City’s championship run. Intrepid internet investigators determined that he had been arrested on charges of robbing a credit union in Oklahoma.

After posting bail in February, he allegedly fled to Sacramento, California, before being arrested on Monday. While little is known about the man’s life beyond what was posted to his publicly accessible social media accounts, his misdeeds and bad behavior have bought him enough notoriety to be featured on national television, for better or worse.

Damar Hamlin got emotional at the ESPYs after awarding the Bills training staff who saved his life

What a moment for Damar Hamlin and the Bills training staff.

It remains absolutely remarkable that Damar Hamlin is alive and set to play football this fall after what happened earlier this year.

Hamlin’s scary collapse during a Monday Night Football game in early January rocked the sports world and it was thanks to the ministrations of the Buffalo Bills training staff that the safety is still with us. On Wednesday, Hamlin made an appearance at the 2023 ESPYs, which honored the best and brightest of the sports world over the last year.

During the show, Hamlin presented the Pat Tillman Award for Service to the Bills training staff who saved his life and got quite teary eyed doing so.

What a moment for Hamlin and the Bills training staff. Not a dry eye in the house, that’s for sure.

Here’s how the sports world reacted to Hamlin’s emotional reunion with the Bills training staff at the 2023 ESPYs.

Travis Kelce presented ‘Best Comeback Athlete’ award at 2023 ESPYs

#Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took the stage with SNL’s Heidi Gardner to present the “Best Comeback Athlete” award at the 2023 ESPYs

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce presented the award for “Best Comeback Player” at the 2023 ESPYs on Wednesday night with Saturday Night Live star Heidi Gardner. Donning an all-white suit, Kelce took the stage after a comical introduction by popular podcaster and former NFL punter Pat McAfee.

Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray won the award, beating out a field of bonafide legends like Jon Jones of the UFC, Alyssa Thomas of the WNBA, and New York Mets pitcher Max Verlander.

Murray’s recent NBA championship win was sure to lift him over the competition in this category. However, all the nominees had exceptional campaigns in their respective sports after returning from injury.

Perhaps the committee that decided Kelce should participate in the ceremony to grant this award chose him specifically because of his bounce-back campaign with the Chiefs in 2014, when he made his first career start in Kansas City after missing his rookie season due to injury.
