Sand invading the Dune: Part Two red carpet in London inspired plenty of jokes

Sand is the red carpet killer.

At the London premiere of the hotly anticipated sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two, the Arrakis-themed red carpet display, well, made a bit of a mess.

As the dunes of the planet Arrakis are understandably covered in sand in the movie (hence the sandworms), the film’s premiere featured a sandy walkway for guests to get the full Dune experience.

As Anakin Skywalker reminded us in another sci-fi sequel, sand does tend to get everywhere, and one of the dutiful workers staffing the event broke out shop vacuum to make sure the red carpet wasn’t too sandy.

It feels like a mundane bit of procedure, but it is kind of funny that the red carpet at the premiere of Dune: Part Two got sand all over it.

Some censored NSFW language to follow.

As you can imagine, the sands of Arrakis getting all over the Dune: Part Two red carpet inspired plenty of jokes.

Unsurprisingly, the Everything Everywhere All At Once crew of Michelle Yeoh and Stephanie Hsu shone — the former also took home a SAG Award — and Austin Butler made everyone else look bad just by being too handsome.

Enough talking. Let’s get to the pictures.

10 celebrities and athletes who made an appearance at the 2022 Kentucky Derby

It was a who’s who of famous people at Churchill Downs for Saturday’s race.

In the 146 years since the Kentucky Derby began, it has become a premier destination for world-famous celebrities and athletes on an annual basis.

Every May, the rich and famous flock to Louisville, Kentucky, to see the race in person, and with the event returning to full capacity in 2022 after two years of limited attendance, you can bet there were a lot of notable people arriving at the track on Saturday morning for the event, which could see more than 150,000 people in the stands.

From Jack Harlow to Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Will Levis, a potential top pick in the 2023 NFL draft, it was certainly a who’s who at Churchill Downs.

The race is set to begin at 6:57 p.m. ET on Saturday evening on NBC, but before we find out who will capture the first leg of this year’s triple crown, let’s take a look at who all was on hand for the festivities.

Tyrann Mathieu reiterates desire to stay with Chiefs at NFL Honors

#Chiefs pending free agent S Tyrann Mathieu reiterated his desire to stay in Kansas City at the NFL Honors red carpet.

Kansas City Chiefs S Tyrann Mathieu was at the annual NFL Honors show last night as one of 32 players up for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

Ahead of the show, Mathieu made some comments on the red carpet reiterating his desire to stay in Kansas City.

“I’m blessed. I feel great. Obviously, the hope and the dream is to continue to be a Kansas City Chief,” Mathieu said. “We created so much history, you know, the last couple of years. I want to be in Kansas City and I think everybody knows that.”

A pending free agent, Mathieu has remained steadfast in his desire to return to Kansas City. The team has also been open about their desire to re-sign Matheiu, both early on in the season and at the conclusion of the season.

Mathieu signed a three-year deal with the team back in 2019 and since then no Chiefs player has had more solo tackles (171) and interceptions (13). He’s been an exemplary leader on and off the field, which his Walter Payton Man of the Year nomination indicates.

Really, Mathieu’s recent comments continue to suggest that if both sides have been honest with what they’ve said, they should be able to come to some sort of an agreement for the future. Free agency officially kicks off on March 16, 2022, when the new league year begins. A deal would have to get done before then for Mathieu to not become an unrestricted free agent.
