Where Oklahoma ranks in strength of schedule among the Big 12 Conference

A look at the Big 12 Conference in terms of strength of schedule and where Oklahoma ranks.

There is a lot of expectations surrounding the Oklahoma Sooners football team as we march towards the kickoff of the 2021 season. While there are more than three months until the start, that hasn’t hindered any of the discussions.

With the rankings and preseason power rankings constantly putting Lincoln Riley’s squad near the top, it is hard not to think of what could be. Is this the season that the fifth-year head coach can finally put it all together? Can Riley and company avoid the early season letdowns of the last several years and make a run at No. 1 in the country?

The computers at ESPN believe Michigan State will finish the 2021 in the bottom third of the Big Ten but potentially end up bowling.

ESPN released their initial Football Power Index (FPI) rankings for the upcoming 2021 season, and the Spartans are ranked as the No. 56 team in the country and 12th in the Big Ten. Despite being ranked near the bottom of the Big Ten, FPI projects the Spartans to finish with 5.6 wins and 6.4 losses, which would technically round up to 6-6. Additionally, FPI gives the Spartans a 51.3 percent chance to win six games and become bowl eligible.

ESPN’s FPI is a “measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season.”

Here is where each of the Big Ten teams rank:

  • No. 5 – Ohio State
  • No. 10 – Penn State
  • No. 15 – Wisconsin
  • No. 23 – Iowa
  • No. 25 – Indiana
  • No. 30 – Northwestern
  • No. 40 – Michigan
  • No. 46 – Nebraska
  • No. 49 – Minnesota
  • No. 50 – Purdue
  • No. 55 – Maryland
  • No. 56 – Michigan State
  • No. 79 – Rutgers
  • No. 87 – Illinois

To no surprise, Ohio State is the heavy favorites by ESPN’s FPI to not only win the Big Ten East Division but the conference as a whole. The Spartans are currently given a 0.8 percent chance at winning the Big Ten East Division and 0.3 percent chance to win the league.

ESPN has released its latest FPI rankings for the upcoming 2021 college football season. Here’s where all of Ohio State’s opponents fall.

We’re still months away from another glorious Ohio State football season (or so we hope), but we never stop looking ahead, especially when the Buckeyes figure to be right in the mix for another Big Ten championship and run to the College Football Playoff.

ESPN is always looking ahead as well and just published an updated Football Percentage Index (FPI) that has a predictive nature of success to it. It takes into account all sorts of things, but we won’t dive too much into it. You can read up on it all by visiting ESPN.com and geek out at some of the analytics and all if you want. All we are doing is acting as the messenger here and passing on the information that Ohio State is expected to be pretty good again.

But how do the Buckeyes stack up against all the teams on its schedule? We’re glad you asked. Here’s a look at where each team on OSU’s 2021 football schedule stacks up in relation to Ohio State’s No. 5 ranking in ESPN’s FPI from best to worst.

Final ESPN FPI rankings are out. Where did Wisconsin land?

The Wisconsin Badgers had an up-and-down year on the football field by many measures, defeating Michigan and Minnesota and winning the bowl

The Wisconsin Badgers had an up-and-down year on the gridiron by many measures, defeating Michigan and Minnesota and winning their Bowl Game but suffering a three-game losing streak that took them out of the Big Ten Championship picture.

The best word that can be used to describe the season is resilience, as the team fought adversity all season but came together to finish on a high note.

The biggest thing to take away, in all honesty, is the youth on the team and how valuable their playing time will prove to be.

Despite the losing streak, ESPN FPI always viewed the Badgers highly. Their postseason rankings are out now, and where the team falls may surprise many.
