2021 Ohio State football schedule: Another run to a Big Ten title?

A look at the complete Ohio State football schedule for 2021.

Ohio State will kick off its 2021 schedule with what should be a more normal slate than what we saw last season at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. You remember that well. Everything then got turned on its side and abbreviated.

Gone are the conference-only schedules in the Big Ten, and back is a more traditional one that the conference updated in February. All told, there are twelve games in the regular season, a potential Big Ten Championship Game, and perhaps more.

College Football News predicts Ohio State football’s win total for 2021

Ohio State should have one whale of a season in 2021 again. Here’s what College Football News says about the Buckeyes predicted win total.

A new year typically means a new opportunity for the Ohio State football team to make a run for another Big Ten title and spot in the College Football Playoff, especially over the last decade or so.

Even though the Buckeyes lost some key contributors to the NFL and graduation from last season, that doesn’t look to be any different in 2021. OSU still has plenty of talent to be the next man up because it recruits among the elite and develops its players better than almost any program out there.

So what are the expectations for Ohio State in 2021?

College Football News took a stab at looking at what the Buckeyes have coming back and how it relates to the schedule and provided an analysis on the best-case scenario, worst-case scenario, and likely record. You’ll be happy to know that the bar is set high and there’s belief that OSU can still be a monster in 2021.

Here’s what Pete Fiutak of College Football News has to say about how Ohio State will most likely navigate its schedule this fall.

ESPN predictive FPI for every team on Ohio State football’s schedule in 2021

ESPN has released its latest FPI rankings for the upcoming 2021 college football season. Here’s where all of Ohio State’s opponents fall.

We’re still months away from another glorious Ohio State football season (or so we hope), but we never stop looking ahead, especially when the Buckeyes figure to be right in the mix for another Big Ten championship and run to the College Football Playoff.

ESPN is always looking ahead as well and just published an updated Football Percentage Index (FPI) that has a predictive nature of success to it. It takes into account all sorts of things, but we won’t dive too much into it. You can read up on it all by visiting ESPN.com and geek out at some of the analytics and all if you want. All we are doing is acting as the messenger here and passing on the information that Ohio State is expected to be pretty good again.

But how do the Buckeyes stack up against all the teams on its schedule? We’re glad you asked. Here’s a look at where each team on OSU’s 2021 football schedule stacks up in relation to Ohio State’s No. 5 ranking in ESPN’s FPI from best to worst.

Very early Ohio State football 2021 game-by-game predictions

We’re 6 months away from the 2021 college football season, but we’re looking ahead, predicting each game on the Ohio State football schedule

Yeah, we know it’s only early March, but we’re always anticipating the next football season at Ohio State. There’s a football factory sitting on the banks of the Olentangy, and there’s always something to discuss and dissect all year long at a place like OSU. Hopefully, this fall will more closely resemble a regular season, at least in terms of the games played than the abbreviated conference only one we saw in 2020 thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We just recently got a revised release of the 2021 schedule from the folks in the Big Ten, which basically moved some of the conference games around a bit for Ohio State, but that’s about it. Now that we know what the opponents and dates are, we thought … hey, why not break it down and provide some very early predictions before we get into spring.

I’m sure we’ll do this exercise a couple of more times before the season kicks off on September 2, but for now, here’s our extremely early, knee-jerk reaction and prediction for each game on the 2021 schedule.

Nov. 20 Michigan State

Nov. 27 at Michigan

Dec. 4 Big Ten Championship (in Indianapolis)

Games vs. The West: at Minnesota, at Nebraska, Purdue

Missed Teams From The West: Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Wisconsin

Ohio State Buckeyes Football Schedule Analysis: If you’re going to miss four teams from the Big Ten West, you’re a little ticked that you’re not getting Illinois, but if you’re missing Wisconsin, Iowa and Northwestern, there’s no beef whatsoever.

The home game against Oregon will be what everyone focuses on, but it doesn’t really matter – the Buckeyes should be able to roll through the rest of the slate. The road dates at Minnesota, Nebraska and Indiana will hardly be layups, but if Ohio State is national championship good, those can’t be a problem. Put it this way – Alabama wins all three of those games in ugly fashion.

The Michigan game is in Ann Arbor, but that’s hardly matters to the Buckeyes.

Ohio State Buckeyes Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: Ohio State rips through the schedule without breathing too hard. It beats Oregon, destroys Indiana after getting a week off to rest, and is happy to get Penn State at home.

There’s a bit of a brain-cramp battle at some point – like at Nebraska or maybe on the wrong day at home against Penn State – but the 12-0 team rolls into yet another Big Ten Championship.

Ohio State Buckeyes Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: The Buckeyes drop the date with the Ducks to put the pressure on the rest of the way, and they misfire on one other game. They lose to Penn State, and worst of all, they finally get caught by Michigan to not only make it another year without a national championship, but it’ll be a year without a Big Ten title.
