Colts’ remaining 2021 schedule with four games left

Here’s a quick look at the remaining schedule for the Colts in 2021.

The Indianapolis Colts find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt as one of the many teams fighting for a wild-card spot in the AFC.

Coming out of their Week 14 bye, the Colts have four crucial games remaining on the regular-season schedule. It gets started with a crucial matchup on Saturday night with the New England Patriots and ends with a divisional bout against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Here’s a quick look at the remaining schedule for the Colts with four games left:

AFC North: Breaking down the remaining strength of schedule around the division

Cleveland’s game on Saturday against the Raiders is the only matchup in the entire division for the rest of the year that features an opponent with a current losing record

With four games left to play, the AFC North is still up for grabs. All four teams are clustered within 1.5 games of one another. The stretch run is going to be crazy.

There is good news and bad news for the Browns and their remaining schedule. Cleveland has the seventh-most difficult schedule over the final four weeks across the entire NFL, per Tankathon.

The Browns’ final four games:

Week 15: Las Vegas Raiders (6-7)

Week 16: at Green Bay Packers (10-3)

Week 17: at Pittsburgh Steelers (6-6-1)

Week 18: Cincinnati Bengals (7-6)

It adds up to a win percentage of 56.7. That’s not easy.

However, the Browns schedule is the easiest of the four AFC North teams. Pittsburgh has the second-hardest overall remaining slate with a combined win percentage of .635. The Ravens are third at .625 and the Bengals are fifth at .596.

In fact, Cleveland’s game on Saturday against the Raiders is the only matchup in the entire division for the rest of the year that features an opponent with a current losing record. The playoff spot(s) will indeed be earned.

Laying out the Lions mathematical possibility of still making the postseason

Believe it or not, there is one infinitely remote path for 0-10-1 Detroit to still make the playoffs in the NFC

Believe it or not, the Detroit Lions are still mathematically capable of making the postseason. Even at 0-10-1 entering Week 13, there is still a possibility for the Lions to shock the world and taste the postseason.

It’s not going to happen, of course. But CBS Sports laid out the exact scenario — there is only one — where the Lions could qualify for the playoffs. It requires 46 games over the final six weeks to play out in exactly the right way for Detroit.

The list, courtesy of CBS Sports on Twitter:

After not winning in the first 12 weeks, expecting the Lions to hold up their own end of the bargain and win the final six contests on the schedule is sheer lunacy. Having the 40 other games play out in the exact manner needed is just as wildly improbable. But the math does check out, technically. Expect that path to come to an end in the early slate of games on Sunday.

Report: Vikings have the hardest remaining 2021 schedule

The Vikings have a tough road ahead.

Minnesota is 3-3 with a bye in Week 7. If the Vikings want to find success during the rest of the regular season, the team will have to go through a gauntlet of good NFL teams.

According to tankathon.com, Minnesota has the most difficult remaining schedule of any team in the league. The Vikings’ remaining opponents have a combined winning percentage of .615 currently, per tankathon.com.

The Vikings are currently .500, with narrow defeats to the Bengals, Cardinals and Browns.

Minnesota will have to start putting good competition away at the end of games. Yes, the Vikings defeated the Seahawks, Lions and Panthers. But rather than blow out those opponents, the Vikings kept inferior competition close at times by committing too many mistakes.

The Panthers and Seahawks could be good — while the Lions are not — but one could argue that the Vikings have yet to beat a stellar 2021 opponent. If Minnesota wants any hope of making the postseason, that has to change.

When will the Lions win? Weighing the chances of victory against each remaining opponent

Going game-by-game, here are the Lions chances at picking up a win against each of Detroit’s remaining foes

With Sunday’s 34-11 loss at home to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Detroit Lions fell to 0-6 under head coach Dan Campbell. The Jacksonville Jaguars avoided that dubious record by snapping their 20-game losing streak and beating the Miami Dolphins earlier that day, leaving the Lions as the NFL’s lone winless team.

When will the Lions win? It’s going to require a better effort and execution than the team showed against Cincinnati to beat anyone, but there are some potential “Ws” on the remaining 11-game schedule.

Going game-by-game, here are the Lions chances at picking up a win against each of Detroit’s remaining foes.

Updated Sooners game-by-game win probabilities per ESPN FPI after win over Texas

An updated look at Oklahoma’s game-by-game win probabilities per ESPN FPI after the Sooners’ incredible win over the Texas Longhorns.

The Oklahoma Sooners came up with an incredible win over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday. It was a game that, to the casual observer, would have looked out of reach for the average team.

For the Sooners, however, they’ve shown before that they can overcome large deficits in the Lincoln Riley era. You only have to go back to the game against Baylor when the Sooners fell behind big only to see Jalen Hurts provide a Herculean effort to bring Oklahoma back to win the football game in Waco.

With the win, the Oklahoma Sooners remain favorites per ESPN’s Football Power Index to win every single game. The win probability margin narrowed in four of their six remaining games. Only against Kansas and Texas Tech did their win probability grow from last week to this week.

The Sooners are in the driver’s seat in the Big 12, though they have a huge question to answer at quarterback this week. With a typically tough matchup against TCU on the horizon, the Sooners can’t afford to keep playing from behind every week. TCU’s offense poses some problems and Oklahoma will need to have a strong week at practice to be prepared for the challenge.

Cleveland Browns 2021 schedule: Game-by-game with predictions

The Cleveland Browns schedule for the 2021 season with game-by-game predictions

All the talk, all the preparation about the 2021 NFL season is complete. It’s time to get the games on!

The Cleveland Browns have high expectations for the season, and rightfully so. Coming off a 2020 campaign where they overcame rampant injuries, COVID-19 issues, wild weather and no preseason prep for such a young team with a rookie coach, and the Browns still managed to win the franchise’s first postseason game since 1994, those expectations should be sky-high.

Here is the 17-game Browns schedule and a game-by-game prediction for each week.

Key Lawrence, Zoom media availability: Rotations, Schedules and Expectations

Key Lawrence sat down with the media and discussed his first game as a Sooner, the defensive rotation, and how the Sooners can navigate the 2021 schedule.

Coming off the heels of a way too close win against Tulane, the Oklahoma Sooners shift their attention to the Western Carolina Catamounts. Sophomore defensive back Keyshawn Lawrence sat down for media availability and answered a myriad of questions about his first game, practice routines, the rotation from Saturday’s game against Tulane, the schedule, bye week, and other topics.

Much was made about Oklahoma’s usage of players on Saturday against Tulane. We chronicled it here at the Sooners Wire. Oklahoma played 31 guys on defense and many, including us, wondered if that may have had an adverse effect, resulting in plays for large gains and general struggles for the Oklahoma defense. Lawrence didn’t seem to buy into that narrative. He felt it was more of a coaching decision that he trusted.

Pretty much I don’t believe so. I think it’s a good idea to have fresh bodies out there… It can mess up the flow of the game but who knows? I’m not the coach so I can’t really go into much depth about that.

He was then asked about the fact that Oklahoma plays nine straight games until their bye week. Obviously, that’s working under the assumption any natural disasters or COVID-related issues force a schedule change. Lawrence said, “We train so hard for eight months so we pretty much just want to go into it. We don’t see a downfall in it because we just want go every day and work.”

That’s the type of mindset that championship teams adopt. Oklahoma had no choice in their bye week. They only could play the schedule given to them. For all of the talk about depth over the last few days, that same depth could be a major strength as the season goes on and attrition naturally occurs.

Lawrence was asked to compare how he felt about the defense after the Tulane game to his thoughts before. The Tennessee transfer didn’t seem too worried and offered another vote of confidence in his defensive teammates.

We just have to go out there with more energy. We may have thought we played to the the best of our ability but we know what we have here is special and we have to remain focused. We understand what we have here.

By all accounts, it seems like there was a dedicated focus on reminding the Sooners team as a whole that what happened in their first game cannot happen again. Instead of hitting the panic button, Lawrence, his teammates and coaches held themselves accountable for their entire performance and will look to be better.
