Two Georgia Bulldogs make PFF’s All-American team

A pair of Georgia football players were selected on the 2024 All-America team from PFF.

Pro Football Focus released their College All-America team this week, and two Georgia Bulldogs made the team. These two Bulldogs have been excellent all season long, and it’s great for Bulldogs fans to see elite Georgia players get rewarded for their performances. Both players also earned spots on the All-SEC teams too.

Offensive guard Dylan Fairchild

Fairchild has been a stalwart guard at UGA for a while now. He had limited snaps in his first few years, but as a junior, he was a reliable everyday starter. He thrives the most in pass protection, with an 87.6 grade in that department, but he is all-around a great protector. He graded out at a 75.2 this year. His best game was against UMass, with a 81.2 grade.

Fairchild has one more year of eligibility. Whether he declares for the 2025 NFL draft, transfers, or stays with UGA, any quarterback would be glad to have Fairchild blocking for him.

Punter Brett Thorson

Thorson’s inclusion in PFF’s All-American list is bittersweet. He’s punted for Georgia since 2022, but Thorson emerged as one of the SEC’s best punters this year. With a net punt average of 44 yards and 23 punts inside the 20, Thorson earned a 94.1 grade on PFF, which is the highest among any punter. He is also one of the finalists for the Ray Guy award.

Sadly, Thorson injured the knee in his non-kicking leg in the SEC championship game. He will need surgery and will be out for the rest of the season. However, he also graduates in 2026, so if he returns to Georgia, the Bulldogs will be set at punting.

Chiefs scouting report: Georgia Bulldogs OL Dylan Fairchild

Georgia #Bulldogs guard Dylan Fairchild could be on the Kansas City #Chiefs radar in the 2025 NFL draft.

The best offensive lines in the NFL stay on top by churning through talent in the draft and landing quality depth pieces in the late rounds. The Kansas City Chiefs selected three offensive linemen last year and should add more trench players through the 2025 NFL draft.

Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Dylan Fairchild will enter the draft with experience at both guard spots. He is a barrel-chested former high school state champion wrestler who thrives grappling with defensive linemen in the trenches. Fairchild gains good width and depth in his pass set. He waits patiently for defensive linemen to enter his range before engaging with powerful extensions and punches.

Fairchild re-anchors against power rushers with his wide base and strong core. His down-to-down consistency suffers from breakdowns in his hand usage and footwork, but he makes highlight reel takedowns in pass protection.

Fairchild looks for work when a defensive lineman doesn’t line up across from him. He swivels to help his center and left tackle by taking rib shots on nose tackles and edge rushers. This aggressiveness translates to the run game. Fairchild works to the defense’s second level and takes smaller defenders for rides on long, forceful blocks.

Fairchild’s lack of arm length and average agility cause some issues in pass protection. Long-limbed defenders gain easy access to his frame, and twitchy rushers weave around his pass set.

Fairchild projects as a fifth or early sixth-round selection on the last day of the draft, but he might go a little earlier because of Georgia’s offensive line pedigree.

After a big win against Texas two weeks ago, the Bulldogs welcome Florida to Athens, Ga. for the first of four remaining home games on their schedule. The game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Two UGA players make SEC All-PFF Week 3 Team

Two Georgia Bulldogs were part of PFF’s All-SEC Week 3 team in UGA’s 13-12 win at Kentucky

There was a ton of negativity following Georgia’s performance against Kentucky. The 22-point favorite Bulldogs barely squeezed by to win 13-12. On a positive note, there were two Georgia players that had standout performances in the road win. Pro Football Focus rewarded them with spots on their All-SEC Team from Week 3.

Dylan Fairchild, LG

The news of guard Tate Ratledge leaving the game due to injury might’ve distracted some Georgia fans from Dylan Fairchild’s excellent performance. He was considered one of the top guards returning to Georgia in 2024, and he balled out in Ratledge’s absence. No one on the Kentucky front seven registered a sack and Georgia allowed only three tackles for a loss.

Julian Humphrey, CB (Flex Spot)

Humphrey was added as a flex, but that underrated how well he did against Kentucky. He recorded a tackle and a pass deflection. He was here for his impressive man coverage. No Kentucky player accrued over 35 receiving yards on the day. Some of that had to do with pressures from the pass rush, but quarterback Brock Vandagriff had to hold on the the ball more because of Humphrey. He even played through the game with a broken tooth.

Georgia Bulldog ranked among The Athletic’s freaks list

Only one Georgia football standout makes the list of The Athletic’s ‘college football freaks list’

Georgia Bulldogs offensive guard Dylan Fairchild has been ranked among The Athletic’s “College football Freaks List 2024.” Bruce Feldman considers Fairchild to be the No. 43 biggest athletic freak in the country.

Fairchild is Georgia’s starting left guard. He started 14 games a year ago and is arguably Georgia’s top pass blocker. The talented offensive lineman made the All-SEC second team, but he still rotates with fellow left guard Micah Morris, who is an excellent run blocker.

Fairchild and the Georgia offensive line will be pivotal for the Bulldogs to have a successful 2024 season. Georgia will lean on its veteran offensive line to play well in road games at Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss this fall.

Of all the elite talent in their program, Georgia coaches said Fairchild is their biggest freak. A former two-time Georgia state heavyweight wrestling champ who went 67-0 with 67 pins in his junior and senior years of high school, Fairchild bench pressed 440 pounds, squatted, 570 and power cleaned 370 this offseason. The 6-5, 315-pound fourth-year junior has a 26-inch vertical and broad-jumped 9-2. (Bruce Feldman/The Athletic)

Fairchild and Tate Ratledge form one of the top offensive guard duos in the country.

It is surprising to see a pair of Bulldogs with elite athleticism snubbed from Feldman’s list. All-SEC first-team performers Mykel Williams and Malaki Starks are freak athletes and will be first-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft as long as they avoid injury. Additionally, senior wide receiver Arian Smith is one of the fastest players in the country and also deserves consideration.

Kirby Smart on Georgia’s OL depth

Smart mentions 2 reserve OL that have impressed this offseason…

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is confident in the Bulldogs’ offensive line depth as the season opener versus UT Martin approaches.

Starters Xavier Truss (left guard), Sedrick Van Pran (center) and Tate Ratledge (right guard) return as one of the most productive interior groups in the country.

Junior Amarius Mims and redshirt freshman Earnest Greene are expected to fill in open spots at offensive tackle after the departure of Broderick Jones and Warren McClendon to the NFL.

Smart mentioned two Bulldogs who have garnered praise for their efforts in fighting for a starting spot this offseason — redshirt sophomores Dylan Fairchild and Micah Morris. Smart outlines what he has seen from Morris this spring.

Both Dylan and Micah have had tremendous spring and fall camps. Micah’s been a little dinged up, so he’s missed a few reps in and out, but he’s really significant on trap plays and pulling plays. He’s physical, he doesn’t shy away from contact, he gets movement. He needs to improve his stamina to be able play to the level of a starter consistently on every snap.

Morris came to Athens in the same class rated as the No. 14 offensive tackle in the nation.

Kirby Smart also went into depth about what he has seen from Dylan Fairchild.

Dylan’s had a great camp. Dylan’s worked at tackle and guard, and he’s done a great job, he’s really physical. I think he’s kind of coming into his own, he’s one of our strongest weight room players, and you can see that taking effect with the offensive line. I look at those two guys as starters – they can play in their role with those other guys.

Fairchild, a former state champion wrestler, was rated as the No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the country in the 2021 recruiting class, per 247Sports.

While Georgia’s starting five seems to be set for the 2023 season, the Bulldogs can feel good with players like Fairchild and Morris waiting in the wings.

UGA football offers scholarship to TE Oscar Delp

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to TE Oscar Delp, teammate of UGA football commit Dylan Fairchild at West Forsyth.

Interestingly, Georgia Tech has also offered Delp. Can Georgia continue to dominate in-state recruiting? Now that the Yellow Jackets have phased out of the triple option they should poise more of a recruiting threat to the Bulldogs.

UGA football has two commitments in the class of 2022 and is looking for more. In the class of 2021, Georgia currently has one commitment from West Forsyth in Dylan Fairchild. Will the duo continue to play together at the college level? We’ll keep you updated on their recruitment.

Fairchild would be a great addition to UGA’s class of 2021. Kirby Smart and the Dawgs are still building up their class of 2021.

Where is Fairchild going to play college football? He’s projected to join the Dawgs! Offensive line coach Matt Luke is an elite recruiter and won’t let many good in-state lineman leave.

It will be tough to top the elite class of 2020. Georgia currently has the 17th ranked class according to 247sports. The Dawgs have seven commitments in the class of 2021.
