Watch: Former Notre Dame commitment scores first touchdown of Coach Prime era for Colorado

The first touchdown of the Coach Prime era in Colorado belongs to a former Notre Dame commitment. Check out the play here.

Colorado wasted no time getting the attention of the nation as they quickly stopped reigning national runner-up TCU and promptly marched down the field on the Horned Frogs.  The Buffaloes capped their first drive with a touchdown scored by a former Notre Dame commitment, freshman running back Dylan Edwards.

Edwards, a true-freshman, was originally committed to Kansas State last fall before Notre Dame got him to flip. [autotag]Deion Sanders[/autotag] and Colorado then got him to again change his tune, flipping him in early December of last year.

Edwards is clearly a speedy talent and now will be the answer to a trivia question for years to come for Colorado fans.

Check out the video of his touchdown below.

Two Buffs named to 247Sports’ preseason True Freshman All-American Team

Two #cubuffs were named to 247Sports’ preseason True Freshman All-American Team

It’s no secret that new Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders has brought in some head-turning talent this offseason, and national media outlets are taking notice of the players who are coming to Boulder.

On Thursday, 247Sports released its annual preseason True Freshman All-American Team and two Buffaloes made the cut: running back Dylan Edwards and five-star cornerback Cormani McClain.

Edwards, a four-star recruit out of Derby, Kansas, is listed on CU’s roster as an all-purpose back, which is a perfect place for him to be as he will be all over the field getting carries, catching passes and being a valuable weapon in the return game.

As for McClain, the Buffs are hoping that the Lakeland, Florida product can develop into a lockdown corner opposite Travis Hunter, CU’s other five-star stud. Earlier this week, Sanders told the media that McClain is coming along “slowly but surely.”

Dylan Edwards sees star potential in fellow freshman Omarion Miller

Dylan Edwards sees “dawg” potential in Omarion Miller

The Colorado Buffaloes football team has plenty of notable players to watch with Deion Sanders running the show. There are just way too many names, and sometimes it’s easy to forget a few players.

Dylan Edwards, the Buffs’ talented incoming freshman running back who flipped from Notre Dame, mentioned Omarion Miller first when he was asked to name five teammates who’ve impressed him the most this summer during a segment of DNVR Buffs Live. “He’s gonna be a dawg,” Edwards said of Miller, a four-star freshman wide receiver.

Edwards went on to name offensive tackle Savion Washington, defensive lineman Shane Cokes, cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter and safety Myles Slusher as the four other Buffs who’ve stood out to him.

That’s an impressive list of players that Edwards gave, and it’s no surprise that Hunter was included. But, Miller might be a surprising addition. He could play a role this season for the Buffs and could catch a lot of passes from Shedeur Sanders, depending on how everything plays out.

It’s early, but there are plenty of names popping off the page. The season opener against TCU can’t come soon enough.

Colorado football 2023 state of the position: Running back

How do you see Colorado’s offensive backfield shaking out in 2023?

The Colorado Buffaloes’ passing offense is getting a lot of love heading into the 2023 season. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders earned rave reviews for his play during spring ball and the wave of talented wide receivers have been social media darlings during offseason workouts.

So, Colorado will be a pass-first team next season, right? As the great Lee Corso often says, not so fast, my friend! Offensive coordinator Sean Lewis mentioned his Badger blood as a way of reminding the country that the Buffaloes are going to run the ball early and often.

Below is a breakdown of what Colorado’s RB room looks like with fall camp just weeks away:

Dylan Edwards discusses how Coach Prime flipped him from Notre Dame to Colorado

Dylan Edwards opened up about how Coach Prime was able to flip him from Notre Dame to Colorado

One of the fastest players in the program already, incoming freshman Dylan Edwards arrived on campus early and has made a strong impression so far this spring.

The four-star running back was originally committed to Notre Dame, but he removed his pledge on Dec. 8 and came on board with the Buffs just two days later.

On Wednesday, Edwards met with the media for the first time this spring and was asked about his decision to join Deion Sanders at Colorado. Edwards said that before Coach Prime was even announced as Colorado’s head coach, he reached out and convinced the Kansas native to visit Boulder. Similar to several other recruits in those early days, Edwards liked what Sanders was beginning to build at CU.

Check out Edwards’ full response below (h/t Zach Segars of Mile High Sports):

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll gave Coach Prime a recruiting tip at the NFL Honors

Per ESPN, Coach Prime was given a recruiting tip by New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll

The Colorado Buffaloes have taken the recruiting world by storm since head coach Deion Sanders was hired in December. CU has shot up the rankings across every recruiting website as a constant line of transfers and high school all-stars all want to be a part of what Coach Prime is building in Boulder.

ESPN took notice as Adam Rittenberg and Kyle Bonagura took stock of Coach Prime’s first 100 days at Colorado. It’s hard not to notice what Sanders has done in the way of recruiting in that short of a time frame. CU has stocked up on top-end talent from the transfer portal and the high school ranks in Travis Hunter, Cormani McClain, Dylan Edwards, Adam Hopkins, Omarion Miller, Jimmy Horn Jr. and Seydou Traore, to name a few commits.

People outside of Boulder are even offering help to Coach Prime, including New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll (h/t ESPN):

At the NFL Honors ceremony during Super Bowl week, Sanders presented the AP Coach of the Year award to the New York Giants’ Brian Daboll while wearing a black suit and a gold pocket square, CU colors. As Sanders exited the stage, Daboll told him about a player he should consider at Colorado. Sanders immediately got Daboll on the phone with his chief of recruiting.

“That doesn’t just mean that he respects me, and he would love for this kid to play for me,” Sanders said. “You know how much noise we’ve got to be making right now, for that gentleman, as we’re walking off the stage, saying, ‘I’ve got a dawg for you.’

“I said, ‘I ain’t hard to find, Coach.'”

Five CU Buffs to watch this spring

These five Buffs are worth keeping an eye on this spring

The countdown is nearly complete as the 2023 CU Buffs begin spring football practices on Sunday.

Players and coaches alike, there are plenty of new faces in Boulder this spring who are eager to get Colorado back to its glory days. Those additions include head coach Deion Sanders, former top overall recruit Travis Hunter, new Buffs quarterback Shedeur Sanders and a number of talented incoming freshmen.

This spring is, of course, an important one for a program in the midst of an unprecedented transition led by Coach Prime.

Below are five players — all new Buffs — who I predict will have a big spring season:

WATCH: Dylan Edwards, Jimmy Horn Jr. show off in the 40-yard dash

WATCH: Jimmy Horn Jr. and Dylan Edwards showed off their speed in a pre-spring measurements day

As the old adage goes, speed kills.

Speed is an aspect of football that the Colorado Buffaloes haven’t had much of in recent years. Jordyn Tyson showed flashes last season, but it hasn’t been since Shay Fields and Laviska Shenault Jr. played in Boulder that the Buffs had players who could consistently take the top off of opposing defenses.

As seen in a recent Well Off Media YouTube video, the Buffs have added some serious speed on offense. The video showed Buffs players going through various testing drills that one would see during the NFL combine, including the high jump and everyone’s favorite drill, the 40-yard dash. Speedsters Jimmy Horn Jr. and Dylan Edwards both ran it in 4.38 seconds and returning CB Nigel Bethel Jr. also impressed with a 4.4.

19 recruits who have signed up for Coach Prime’s class of 2023 at Colorado

Here’s a head-count of the 19 Seniors who have signed their National Letters of Intent to play for Coach Prime next season at Colorado.

The Colorado Buffaloes have been the biggest story in the recruiting game over the last couple of months. While they’re coming off a 1-11 season their fortunes have changed in a profound way. Ever since Deion Sanders was hired as their head coach Boulder has become the hottest destination on the recruiting circuit.

Colorado even pulled off the biggest coup of this recruiting cycle, flipping Lakeland (Fla.) five-star cornerback and the No. 2 overall recruit Cormani McClain from Miami. Sanders has also been on fire in the transfer portal, where he’s picked up another 25 players – including 2022’s top-ranked recruit, cornerback Travis Hunter. All together, Colorado’s 2023 class now ranks No. 21 in the country.

Meet Notre Dame’s Now Complete 2023 Recruiting Class

Meet Notre Dame’s 26 current commitments in what is a top-five class nationally.

After a whirlwind couple of years the 2023 recruiting class has officially been completed at Notre Dame.  What started out tremendously hit a few snags along the way.  It closed with one of the strangest signing day stories you’ll ever see when Peyton Bowen bailed on Notre Dame for Oregon, only to change his mind and bail on Oregon for Oklahoma just a day later.

In all, Notre Dame wound up with 24 signed commitments after the second signing period in February.  It didn’t finish in the top couple of spots nationally like we had hoped after it’s tremendous start but will continue to add to the overall talent for Notre Dame.

Here are the 24 newest members of the Notre Dame football team:
