Florida Gators add three-star safety Donovan McMillon to 2021 class

One day after losing defensive back Clinton Burton Jr UF added another with Canonsburg, Pennsylvania three-star safety Donovan McMillon.

One day after losing a defensive back in the 2021 class, Clinton Burton, Jr., the Florida Gators added another, with Canonsburg, Pennsylvania three-star safety Donovan McMillon pledging on July 18.

McMillon shared the news of his commitment on his Twitter account.

The No. 26 player at his position in the cycle and a top-dozen player in the state, per the 247Sports Composite, he had previously trimmed his list of schools to five on June 1.

Along with Florida, the Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Texas A&M Aggies, and Virginia Tech Hokies made the cut for his services.

Primarily recruited by position coach Ron English, McMillon, listed at 6-foot-2 and 193 pounds, is a physical safety, who is also a standout wrestler for the Peters Township Mighty Indians, owning a 101-18 career record on the mat.

The Gators offered McMillon on April 18 and he took a trip to Gainesville in June, although the coaching staff was unable to interact with him, in accordance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) guidelines regarding the recruiting dead period.

โ€œThis is one of the only schools in the country thatโ€™s ranked in the top-ten academically and athletically,โ€ he told 247Sportsโ€™ Brian Dohn.

โ€œCoach (Dan) Mullen and his staff have continued to be outstanding during this recruiting process.โ€

The addition of McMillon brings Floridaโ€™s upcoming class back up to an even 20 members. The lone commit from the Keystone State, he is the twelfth-highest rated player in the group and the six-highest on the defensive side of the football.

McMillon becomes the Gatorsโ€™ fourth defensive back in the cycle, joining fellow safety Dakota Mitchell, a three-star from Winter Park, and cornerbacks Kamar Wilcoxson and Jordan Young, a four-star from Bradentonโ€™s IMG Academy and a three-star from Tampa, respectively.

Michigan misses cut for heavily recruited safety

The maize and blue miss the cut on one of the nationโ€™s most highly sought-after safeties.

[jwplayer rX7yCPh9-XNcErKyb]
Well, two out of three ainโ€™t bad.

On Monday, two prospects that the Wolverines have long targeted put them in their top groups, as four-stars Xavier Worthy and Omarion Cooper declared Michigan finalists for their services. But such wasnโ€™t the case for yet another recruit that the maize and blue have been after.

Only recently did 2021 Canonsburg (PA) Peters Twp. safety Donovan McMillon receive his fourth-star via 247Sports โ€” surprising given he has 51 reported offers. Michigan has been after him since it offered on Jan. 30, but the pursuit wasnโ€™t enough, as it didnโ€™t make McMillonโ€™s final five, per his announcement on Twitter on Monday.

Michigan football fans canโ€™t be too upset given that no Big Ten teams made his list, including local Penn State.

The Wolverines already have one safety committed in the 2021 class in Clayton (OH) Northmont three-star Rod Moore.

Donovan McMillon includes Georgia football in top-10

UGA football recruiting: Georgia Bulldogs make top-10 for elite recruit Donovan McMillon.

Georgia has made the top-ten for the 200th ranked player in the nation, Donovan McMillon.

McMillon holds 53 scholarship offers but was able to cut that list to ten on Friday.

A 4-star safety in the class of 2021 out ofย Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, McMillon’sย top-ten schools are as follows:

Georgia, Florida, LSU, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State and Virginia Tech.

He ranks as the nation’s No. 200 overall player, No. 8 safety and the No. 8 player in his state.

Out of his ten finalists, he has actually only visited two, Virginia Tech and Penn State.

Once he is allowed to visit schools again, he hopes to cut his list in half to five.

Michigan makes Top 10 for highly-coveted 2021 safety

The Wolverines made the cut of 10 out of the highly-touted prospects reported 50 offers.

One of Michigan’s top targets in 2021 is Canonsburg (PA) Peters Twp. four-star safety Donovan McMillon.

Rated by 247Sports as the No. 200 prospect, regardless of position, it’s not just the Wolverines in hot pursuit. The No. 8 safety in the class has an astounding 50 reported offers, including from the likes of Oklahoma, LSU, Penn State and Florida.

However, he released a Top 10 on Friday, and Michigan made the cut, along with the aforementioned as well as Georgia, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Oregon and Arizona State.

Earlier this year, WolverinesWire spoke to 247Sports’ Steve Lorenz, who shared his thoughts on Michigan’s chances with McMillon back before he got his fourth-star.

Lorenz’s take:

“They really like Donovan McMillon, the three-star out of Eastern Pennsylvania. He’s another kid who had a great winter period. I think Michigan and Notre Dame both offered there. Penn State did, too. It would not surprise me if those three schools came to the forefront of his recruitment. Again, Pennsylvania kid, so you have to assume that Penn State’s got a shot. But Bob Shoop being Pennsylvania native may help them in that race a little bit.

“A guy like McMillon, I think very, very high ceiling. Very athletic. Maybe just needs to learn the game a little bit. A great type of prospect to take in 2021 to complement who you’ve taken the last couple cycles.”

Notre Dame Out as Top DB Cuts List to 10

Donovan McMillon cut his potential schools to 10 and Notre Dame did not make the cut. See who did though for a top safety in the 2021 class.

2021 top ten safety Donovan McMillon of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania (Peters Township) has narrowed his list of potential schools to ten and Notre Dame appears to be out as a potential landing spot.

Notre Dame had offered the eighth ranked safety on 247Sports on February 7 but did not make the cut wen McMillon announced his top ten on May 1.

He may not ever play a game for Notre Dame but McMillon does deserve props for the use of the old NCAA Football video game in his announcement.

Currently Notre Dame sits with one safety commit in the 2021 cycle, that being three-star Justin Walters of Bolingbrook, Illinois.

10 Michigan football recruiting targets to watch in 2021

247Sports’ Steve Lorenz joined WolverinesWire and the Locked On Wolverines podcast to share who Michigan’s going after the hardest in 2021.

[jwplayer fdhV1vo6-XNcErKyb]

As of yet, Michigan has just two commits in the 2021 class in offensive tackle Giovanni El-Hadi and quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

But, as we’ve seen, recruiting heats up in a hurry, and there are several prospects the Wolverines are in on.

On Wednesday, we welcomed 247Sports’ Steve Lorenz to the Locked On Wolverines podcast to discuss who are 10 recruits that Michigan fans should have their eye on, and while he gave us more than 10, as well as a thorough breakdown of where maize and blue targets fared in the newly-released 247Sports 2021 rankings that came out on Wednesday, he shared some excellent insight as to where things stand with several of the Wolverines’ top targets.

In no particular order, we start with a long-coveted in-state product.

Lorenz’s take:

“Projects as an offensive lineman. Could also play the defensive line at the next level.

“Again, I expect Michigan to recruit him as an offensive lineman, but I think he’s also a guy, depending on how they feel with other offensive linemen, he could also play on the defensive side.

“I think Michigan’s battling, really kind of the typical type of schools in this situation — Notre Dame, Ohio State. I think Penn State, a little bit, but more Notre Dame and Ohio State. A guy that Michigan quarterback commitment J.J. McCarthy has worked really hard on, and the staff obviously has worked very hard as well.”

Notre Dame Football: New Offer Out for ’21 Pennsylvania Safety

6-2, 185 pound safety Donovan McMillon announced his scholarship offer on Twitter, making Notre Dame the 24th different school to extend a scholarship offer his way.

Notre Dame has been getting after it for the 2021 class of late with a run of offers being made near and far.ย  That continued Friday afternoon as Canonsburg, Pennsylvania was the location of their latest scholarship offer to the 2021 recruiting class.

6-2, 185 pound safety Donovan McMillon announced his scholarship offer on Twitter, making Notre Dame the 24th different school to extend a scholarship offer his way.

McMillon of Peters Township High School is listed as a three-star recruit on 247 Sports composite ratings.

Of the 24 schools that have now offered McMillon, Michigan is the most-similar to Notre Dame in terms of their standing in college football.ย  The other bigger schools to have offered are the likes of Purdue, Pitt and West Virginia while a good amount of MAC teams are on the list, as is seemingly solid Cincinnati.

Notre Dame’s offer to McMillon comes less than a week after they received a commitment from 2021 safety Justin Walters of Bolingbrook, Illinois.
