Texans work out 3 ahead of Week 8 matchup with Panthers

The Houston Texans worked out three players during Week 8 as they gear up for the Carolina Panthers.

The Houston Texans worked out three players on Thursday according to a league source.

The Texans worked out cornerback Kris Boyd, running back Zander Horvath, and receiver Dezmon Patmon.

Boyd previously was with the Arizona Cardinals where he played four games, collecting two combined tackles. The former Minnesota Vikings 2019 seventh-round pick played 58 games with his original draft club from 2019-22.

Horvath is a former Los Angeles Chargers 2022 seventh-round fullback. Last year, Horvath started in two of his 15 games active, and spent 257 snaps on special teams compared to 110 on offense.

Patmon, a former Indianapolis Colts 2020 sixth-round pick, spent the offseason and training camp with the Buffalo Bills. Patmon was recently on the Panthers’ practice squad until Sept. 12.

Browns workout WR Dazz Newsome, Makai Polk, 5 others during Colts week

The Browns have hosted seven players for a workout during Colts week

We are now just one day away from the Week 7 matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts. Before we get to the game, however, the Browns once again worked out over a handful of players this week. The headliners of this group include wide receivers Makai Polk and Dazz Newsome, and former Nebraska and Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez.

This is a weekly occurrence for the Browns as they look to churn the bottom of their roster and practice squad. It is worth mentioning that the team still has an open roster spot after placing guard Michael Dunn on Injured Reserve, so if they sign a player off of the practice squad, they will have an opening to fill there.

Here is the full list of players the Browns worked out as the Browns get set to take on the Colts with 4-2 on their minds. Will the Browns bring any of them into the building?

Titans worked out four receivers on Tuesday

Prior to signing Shi Smith to the practice squad, the Titans hosted Smith and three other WRs for a workout.

After an injury to wide receiver Kearis Jackson that led to his placement on injured reserve, the Tennessee Titans promoted fellow wide receiver Mason Kinsey from the practice squad to take his spot on the active roster.

That led to the team being one wide receiver shorter on the practice squad, with only 2023 undrafted free agent Tre’Shaun Harrison remaining at the position.

However, the Titans signed former Carolina Panthers sixth-round pick and wide receiver Shi Smith to the practice squad on Tuesday to fill the spot, one of five moves the team made.

Smith has appeared in 23 games (six starts) over his two-year career, catching 28 passes for 400 yards and two touchdowns in that span.

The South Carolina product also has experience in the return game, fielding 23 punts for 143 yards, an average of 6.2 yards per, and he has one 24-yard kick return under his belt.

Prior to inking Smith, the Titans worked him and three other receivers out, including one familiar face. Here’s the list, according to the transactions wire:

Panthers’ updated practice squad after addition of Lamar Jackson

The Panthers made a swap on their practice squad today, releasing WR Dezmon Patmon and signing CB Lamar Jackson.

The Carolina Panthers made an adjustment to their practice squad on Tuesday, releasing wide receiver Dezmon Patmon and signing cornerback Lamar Jackson. With starter Jaycee Horn reportedly expected to miss “multiple weeks,” per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Jackson’s addition may end up bringing some depth to the team’s secondary.

But until then, let’s take a look at the updated 16-man group:

Panthers release WR Dezmon Patmon from practice squad

The Panthers released WR Dezmon Patmon from their practice squad on Tuesday.

After bringing in a trio of additions on Monday, the Carolina Panthers practice squad saw a bit of subtraction this afternoon.

As reported by Augusta Stone of Panthers.com on Tuesday, the team has released wideout Dezmon Patmon from the group. The 25-year-old receiver was signed to the practice squad one week ago, prior to the team’s regular-season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

Patmon played collegiately at Washington State University from 2016 to 2019. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder would then be selected by Frank Reich’s Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft and appeared in just one game during his rookie campaign.

He went on to play in nine games over the next two seasons in Indianapolis, recording 45 yards and a touchdown off four receptions. Before coming to Carolina, Patmon spent this past summer with the Buffalo Bills.

Following Patmon’s release, the Panthers now have one open spot on their practice squad.

Panthers’ initial 2023 practice squad

Here is the Carolina Panthers’ initial 16-man practice squad for the 2023 season:

The Carolina Panthers have officially rounded out their initial practice squad for the 2023 season—adding former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver and Frank Reich draft pick Dezmon Patmon on Tuesday.

So, let’s take a look at the entire (and complete) 16-man group:

Panthers add WR Dezmon Patmon to practice squad

The Panthers have finally rounded out their initial 16-man practice squad with the addition of WR Dezmon Patmon.

The Carolina Panthers entered Tuesday without a complete active roster and without a complete practice squad. But they’ll be leaving it, at the very least, with the latter.

As reported by Darin Gantt of Panthers.com this evening, the team has signed wideout Dezmon Patmon to their practice squad. The addition of the 25-year-old receiver now rounds out the initial 16-player group heading into the 2023 campaign.

Patmon, a San Diego, Cali. native, played his college ball at Washington State University from 2016 to 2019. There, he reeled in 156 receptions for 1,976 yards and 13 touchdowns over 36 contests.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder was then selected by Frank Reich’s Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft. He appeared in just one game during his rookie campaign.

After beginning 2021 on injured reserve, Patmon played in eight outings for the Colts in his sophomore season. He recorded two catches, one of which went for a 14-yard touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16.

Patmon was most recently a member of the Buffalo Bills, as he was signed to their practice squad on Jan. 17, 2023. He was waived prior to final roster cuts on Aug. 27.

Bills sign former Colts WR Dezmon Patmon to practice squad

The Bills signed former Colts WR Dezmon Patmon to their practice squad.

The Buffalo Bills signed former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Dezmon Patmon to the practice squad, per Nate Atkins of the Indianapolis Star.

Patmon was on the team’s practice squad at the end of the season so if the Colts wanted to keep him on the roster, they would have needed to sign him to a Reserve/Future deal as they did with several others.

Because they didn’t, Patmon immediately became a free agent at the end of the regular season.

The former sixth-round pick never found a role with the Colts. He appeared in just one game during the 2022 season, the Week 2 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played 48% of the snaps while recording two receptions for 24 yards.

In his career, Patmon has appeared in eight games. He’s recording four receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Now, Patmon will join former Colts running back Nyheim Hines on the Bills roster in hopes of winning the Super Bowl.

Colts elevate WRs Dezmon Patmon, Ethan Fernea to active roster

The Colts elevated two WRs from the practice squad for Week 7.

The Indianapolis Colts elevated wide receivers Dezmon Patmon and Ethan Fernea from the practice squad to the active roster, the team announced Saturday.

Considering the fact that Keke Coutee has been ruled out due to a concussion, the Colts made sure to bring up some depth for the wide receiver room.

Patmon will likely be working as the fifth wide receiver in the room while Fernea can offer some special teams work as a gunner.

Colts sign WR Dezmon Patmon to practice squad

Dezmon Patmon joined the practice squad.

The Indianapolis Colts signed wide receiver Dezmon Patmon to the practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.

Patmon, a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, was waived Tuesday when the Colts signed kicker Chase McLaughlin from the practice squad. Patmon cleared waivers and returned to the practice squad.

Serving as the sixth wide receiver in the room, Patmon has been a healthy scratch in three of the team’s four games this season. He was active in Week 2 when Michael Pittman Jr. was out due to a quad injury.
