Browns workout WR Dazz Newsome, Makai Polk, 5 others during Colts week

The Browns have hosted seven players for a workout during Colts week

We are now just one day away from the Week 7 matchup between the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts. Before we get to the game, however, the Browns once again worked out over a handful of players this week. The headliners of this group include wide receivers Makai Polk and Dazz Newsome, and former Nebraska and Kansas State quarterback Adrian Martinez.

This is a weekly occurrence for the Browns as they look to churn the bottom of their roster and practice squad. It is worth mentioning that the team still has an open roster spot after placing guard Michael Dunn on Injured Reserve, so if they sign a player off of the practice squad, they will have an opening to fill there.

Here is the full list of players the Browns worked out as the Browns get set to take on the Colts with 4-2 on their minds. Will the Browns bring any of them into the building?

Bucs sign CB Anthony Chesley to practice squad

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed cornerback Anthony Chesley to their practice squad

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to fill out the bottom of their roster as they head into the 2022 regular season.

Cornerback Anthony Chesley has been signed to the practice squad, taking the 15th of 16 spots.

Chesley played his college football at Coastal Carolina, splitting his NFL time between the Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts.

During the Bucs’ preseason finale against the Colts, Chesley had a pair of impessive tackles for loss, which no doubt impressed Tampa Bay’s decision-makers. He’ll also bring plenty of special teams experience, which is always valuable for players hoping to stick on a 53-man roster.

Colts release CB Anthony Chesley, waive OT Jordan Murray

The Colts are expected to release CB Anthony Chesley and waive OT Jordan Murray.

The Indianapolis Colts are expected to release cornerback Anthony Chesley and waive offensive tackle Jordan Murray ahead of Tuesday’s deadline to reduce the roster to 53 players, per Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.

Chesley had been battling for the final spot in the cornerback room with a handful of other players. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he found a spot on the practice squad.

Murray signed with the Colts this offseason on a futures contract and even though he struggled during the preseason, it seems the Colts still believe there is upside as Erickson reported they want to bring him back to the practice squad.

Colts protect 4 practice squad players in Week 17

The Colts protected 4 of their practice squad players in Week 17.

The Indianapolis Colts protected four practice squad players ahead of the Week 17 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders, per the league’s transaction wire.

The four players include quarterback Brett Hundley, defensive tackle Chris Williams, cornerback Anthony Chesley and safety Will Redmond.

Given the new COVID-19 protocols, there is a chance the Colts see the return of several players who are currently on the reserve list. That includes quarterback Carson Wentz, who will be a close call when Sunday rolls around.

Making these protections at least gives the Colts a chance to call up some depth in the event a number of players can’t go against the Raiders as Indy tries to clinch a playoff berth.

Colts sign a pair of CBs to the practice squad

The Colts added a pair of CBs to the practice squad.

The Indianapolis Colts signed cornerbacks Anthony Chesley and Brian Poole to the practice squad and released cornerback BoPete Keyes from the practice squad, the team announced Monday.

Chesley has spent time on the practice squad and active roster for the Colts throughout the 2021 season. He was waived on Saturday when the Colts made room to call up safety Jahleel Addae before the Week 11 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Poole, 29, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2016 with the Atlanta Falcons. He has spent time with the  Falcons (2016–2018), New York Jets (2019–2020), New Orleans Saints (2021) and New England Patriots (2021).

In 70 career games (38 starts), Poole has recorded seven interceptions, 31 passes defended, six sacks, 17 tackles for loss and 18 quarterback hits.

Colts activate S Jahleel Addae to 53-man roster

The Colts activated S Jahleel Addae to the 53-man roster and waived CB Anthony Chesley.

The Indianapolis Colts activated safety Jahleel Addae from the practice squad to the active roster and waived cornerback Anthony Chesley, the team announced Saturday.

Addae had been residing on the practice squad while being called up on gamedays as an extra body. Given that he’s already maxed out his two call-ups for the season in the last two weeks, the Colts needed to sign him to the active roster in order to make him available for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Though the team is hopefully Khari Willis can return in Week 12, Julian Blackmon is out for the remainder of the season due to a torn Achilles. Depth is needed in the room anywhere they can get it.

In his two games played with the Colts, Addae has three tackles while playing 10 defensive snaps and 14 special teams snaps.

Colts sign 3 more to futures contracts

Colts add 3 more futures contracts.

The Indianapolis Colts signed offensive tackles Jake Benzinger and Elijah Nkansah and cornerback Anthony Chesley to reserve/future contracts, the team announced Tuesday.

The Colts will continue to fill their roster until they reach the 90-man limit for the offseason. Most of these players are camp bodies who will be getting a shot to prove their worth to NFL coaches, but its more about the Colts trying to see if they can find a diamond in the rough.

The Colts have already signed several players to futures contracts but they remain on the reserve list until the day after the Super Bowl in February. Then, they will be added to the active roster.

Texans place S Eric Murray on COVID-19 reserve

The Houston Texans placed safety Eric Murray on COVID-19 reserve and made some roster adjustments to replace him.

The Houston Texans have another player to place on COVID-19 reserve ahead of their Week 16 game with the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at NRG Stadium.

The club announced that safety Eric Murray will be placed on the COVID-19 reserve and miss Sunday’s game.

Houston placed outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus on the COVID-19 reserve on Friday.

As Murray and Mercilus’ COVID-19 replacements, the Texans will call up receiver Steven Mitchell and cornerback Anthony Chesley from the practice squad.

Mitchell has caught three passes for 38 yards through four games this season. Chesley has been activated for two games in 2020 and has played nine snaps on special teams.
