Broncos WR KJ Hamler models game after DeSean Jackson

The Broncos might have landed their own version of DeSean Jackson in KJ Hamler.

Broncos new wide receiver KJ Hamler (5-9, 176 pounds) has similar measurables and a similar playing style to Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (5-10, 175 pounds). Perhaps most notably for Denver, he has similar speed, too.

Jackson ran a 4.35-second 40-yard dash at the combine in 2008 and Hamler has been clocked running 4.3 40-yard dashes. If he’s as explosive for the Broncos as Jackson has been in his career, Hamler will become a star in Denver.

“DeSean Jackson is the main guy I play like,” Hamler said during a conference call with reporters on April 24. “I’ve been hearing that since I was younger. He’s my favorite player. Him and Steve Smith are the people I look up to.

“From a playmaking ability, from taking a slant 60 yards for a touchdown and stuff like that, I think me and DeSean are very similar. DeSean Jackson is my favorite player.”

In 12 seasons, Jackson has totaled 10,420 receiving yards and 55 touchdowns, 447 rushing yards and four touchdowns and 1,313 punt return yards and four touchdowns. The Broncos would love to get that kind of production out of Hamler over the next decade.

Philadelphia Eagles’ projected depth chart post 2020 NFL Draft

Philadelphia Eagles’ way-early projected depth chart after the 2020 NFL Draft

As the Philadelphia Eagles continue their retool, the overall roster and depth chart is starting to take some shape as it’s unlikely they’ll add too many more free agents unless a big name or value becomes available.

We projected the 53-55 man roster a little earlier, and now we’ll a depth chart for the Eagles heading into the virtual offseason workouts.

QB: Carson Wentz (Starter) — Nate Sudfeld — Kyle Lauletta

Went is entering his fifth year in the NFL and after getting over some humps in 2019, this will likely be his best year as a pro.

Hurts and Sudfeld will likely be active on gameday with the Eagles rookie having about 9-15 plays a game in a special package, including goal lines and short-yardage situations.

DeSean Jackson makes it clear that he’s still the Philadelphia Eagles No. 1 WR

DeSean Jackson says he’s still the Philadelphia Eagles top WR

DeSean Jackson has quietly gone about his 2020 offseason as the Eagles figured out how they could retool at the wide receiver position.

After both Jackson and Alshon Jeffery were placed on season-ending injured reserve, Eagles brass started the process of what general manager Howie Roseman called a retool of speed and youth at the wide receiver position.

One of the fastest receivers in football season entering the NFL, Jackson made it known during an Instagram post that he’s still the Eagles No. 1 wide receiver and he’s definitely not the number 3.

Keep that same energy means Jackson has every intention of returning to the explosive weapon the Eagles envisioned after his breakout week 1 performance against the Redskins last season.

The Eagles recently drafted and acquire a ton of speed in Marquise Goodwin (trade), Jalen Reagor (TCU), John Hightower (Boise State), and Quez Watkins (Southern Miss).

Jackson also recently shared a video running routes and the Eagles star looks good.

The Philadelphia Eagles reloaded at the wide receiver position during the 2020 NFL Draft but the most important component to the skill positions will both be returning from injury.

DeSean Jackson is still the most explosive player on the Eagles roster and the guy who exploded out the gate against the Redskins looks to be 100% healthy as the Birds start their virtual offseason workout program.

Jackson posted a video to Instagram that showed the Eagles star getting in some work at a local field.

Jackson made it clear on a now-deleted post that he’s still the top-dawg on the Eagles depth chart.

Jackson will join Alshon Jeffery and JJ Arcega-Whiteside as veterans in a group that will now include speedsters Marquise Goodwin (trade), Jalen Reagor (TCU), John Hightower (Boise State) and Quez Watkins (Southern Miss).

The Eagles worked to get younger, faster, and more explosive next season, and Jackson covers the basis on two of those needed attributes.

Eagles among 20 NFL teams to start virtual offseason workout programs

Philadelphia Eagles start virtual offseason workout program on Monday

The NFL Draft is a wrap and the league offseason will proceed as the Philadelphia Eagles and about 31 other teams would be engulfed in the start of offseason workouts and OTAs. That won’t be the case this year, as the coronavirus pandemic has pushed back the start of teams’ offseason programs.

With the COVID-19 crisis shutting down operations on the field, the NFL has allowed teams to start their offseason workout programs online and the Eagles were one of 20 teams set to begin.

The Eagles would be in phase-1 of the program, with weight training and physical rehabilitation being the staple for the first few weeks. The Eagles won’t be able to get any onfield work done due to the pandemic, but the team can do virtual classwork and that should allow Carson Wentz some opportunity to begin forming a bond with his young receivers.

Guys like Jalen Mills, Andre Dillard, and the Eagles free-agent signees will suffer the most from the loss of time at the NovaCare Complex.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman on ‘competition’ dictating which WR plays

Howie Roseman says competition will dictate which Eagles WR plays

The Philadelphia Eagles went from having one of the slowest skill groups in the NFL to potentially have a formidable 4-100 relay team made out of wide receivers.

The Eagles started off by landing Jalen Reagor at pick No. 21 overall. The former TCU star is known for his jets and big-play abilities. After Reagor, the Eagles landed an elite athlete in Boise State wide receiver John Hightower.

Then Howie Roseman flipped a sixth-round pick former 49ers speed-burner, Marquise Goodwin. By the time the ink was dry on Goodmin, Roseman sealed the deal by adding Southern Miss speedster Quez Watkins.

Howie Roseman now has a wide receiving corps that includes DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, Greg Ward, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Marken Michel, Marcus Green, Shelton Gibson, Robert Davis, River Cracraft, and Deontay Burnett.

That’s ten veterans to go with three rookies and a recently acquired veteran in Goodwin. Everyone’s not going to make the cut and when asked what we’ll determine playing time on the outside, Roseman didn’t mince words.

The Eagles finished the season with a practice squad at wide receiver. They’ll enter the 2020 season with one of the fastest teams in the NFL, that won’t have room for everyone involved.

Eagles GM expects WR corps to be much improved with return of Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson

Eagles feel they’ll improve greatly at wide receiver with the return of Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson

The Philadelphia Eagles added a ton of speed to the lineup via the NFL Draft but if you ask GM Howie Roseman, the group will only truly improve with the return of two integral players.

While speaking to the media following the Eagles 10-man draft haul, Roseman made it clear that the true measure of the Eagles wide receiving corps will be dictated by the healthy return of Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson.

Despite the constant rumors of trades or outright release, Roseman has held in his belief that both players would be back with the Eagles and the franchise would be better for it.

Roseman has defended Jeffery when presented with questions about his star wide receiver who’ll be out indefinitely with a foot injury.

Last season Jeffery finished the year with 43 catches for 490 yards and four touchdowns, his lowest totals since joining the Eagles. There had been some talk of a release or trade, but the Eagles appear set to run it back with their big-two and some speedy additions.

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to add speed to the roster for Carson Wentz, this time drafting Southern Mississippi speed wideout, Quez Watkins in the sixth round.

Slight with a thin frame — which will make fans nervous — Watkins can fly and that’s what the Eagles are lacking.

The former Southern Miss wideout caught 64 passes for 1,178 yards (18.4 YPC) as a junior in 2019, one year a sophomore season that saw him rack up 889 receiving yards.

Instant analysis of the Eagles selecting an elite athlete in Boise St. WR John Hightower

The Philadelphia Eagles started the NFL draft off as one of the slowest teams in the NFL but after some late-round movement, the Eagles have a few elite athletes on the roster.

The Eagles added Jalen Reagor in the first-round on Thursday and then added the athletic John Hightower from Boise State in the fifth round.

An elite athlete who’ll give opponents matchup nightmares, Hightower led Boise State in receiving last season.

Here are 3 takeaways from the pick:

1. Hightower is a supreme athlete

A former JUCO star, Hightower is a big-time vertical threat that can damage a defense from multiple positions.

Hightower went to Hinds Community College in Mississippi to run track after high school but ended up excelling in football

4 takeaways from the Eagles trading for speedy WR Marquise Goodwin

4 takeaways from the Eagles trading for speedy WR Marquise Goodwin

In a move that is finally helping the NFL draft weekend make some sense, the Philadelphia Eagles acquired wide receiver, Marquise Goodwin, from the San Francisco 49ers.

A third-round pick out of Texas in 2013, Goodwin has spent three seasons with the 49ers after spending his four years in Buffalo.

Goodwin caught 12 passes for just 186 yards last season, averaging 15.5 yards a reception, in nine games last seasons.

Here are 4. takeaways from the deal.

1. The Eagles are really fast now

With DeSean Jackson, Goodwin, Jalen Reagor, and John Hightower, the Eagles have some thoroughbreds, capable of running you out of the building.
