Alabama makes top-12 list for 2023 4-star LB out of Texas

Alabama joins 11 other big-time programs to potentially land the 4-star LB.

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have made the top-12 list for a four-star linebacker out of Marlin, Texas, [autotag]Derion Gullette[/autotag]. The 2023 prospect has been courted by many big-time programs, but will choose between Alabama and 11 others.

Currently, there’s no indication that he is leaning one way or another, which is not an issue this early in the recruiting cycle. Gullette still has a full year of high school football remaining before he makes the jump to the collegiate level.

Alabama joins other high-profile programs in pursuit of the Texas-native, but will have to show him what makes the Crimson Tide stand above the rest.

Numerous linebackers have found success at Alabama and went on to have successful careers in the NFL, with the hefty paychecks that come with it. Gullette could soon join that list.

4-star linebacker from Texas includes Oregon Ducks in top-12

The Oregon Ducks are squarely in the mix when it comes to the recruitment of 4-star Texas linebacker Derion Gullette.

Over the last several years since the Oregon Ducks stepped up their recruiting efforts in the southern portion of the United States, and particularly in the state of Texas, we’ve seen a decently-sized pipeline of talent coming up to the Pacific Northwest.

That doesn’t look to be changing under Dan Lanning and the new coaching staff.

This past week, one of the best linebackers in the state of Texas, 4-star Derion Gullette, announced his top-12 list of schools and feature the Oregon Ducks prominently in the mix.

Gullette stands at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds and is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 26 EDGE and No. 225 player overall in the 2023 class.

According to 247Sports, Gullette also played some WR in high school, and had over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns receiving in 2021. The Ducks just recently offered him earlier this year, so while we haven’t seen him hosted on a visit just yet, that is likely to come at some point in the next several months.

247Sports rates Gullette as the No. 38 player in Texas and a top 300 player in the class of 2023.

Gullette provided an update on his recruitment as he dropped his top 12 schools on Friday. Texas made the cut along with Ohio State, Notre Dame, Auburn, Oregon, USC, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU, North Carolina and Miami.

The Marlin product put up monster numbers on both sides of the ball during his junior season.  He racked up over 1500 total yards and 18 touchdowns on offense along with making 125 tackles and forcing four turnovers as a linebacker. Gullette even served as his team’s punter in 2021. He took home district MVP for his efforts.

Linebacker is a major position of need for the Longhorns. Adding Gullette to the fold would do wonders for the 2023 class.

After all, recruiting is the lifeblood of college football and nobody has done it better than Saban. The on-the-field success is a product of Saban’s ability to draw in some of the nation’s top talent.

Now that the 2022 class is wrapped up, Saban and his staff have shifted their focus to the class of 2023. Here at Roll Tide Wire, we are in the middle of a series of stories listing who Alabama has offered at each position for the class of 2023. Already completed are the quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends, cornerbacks, safeties, and wide receivers that Alabama has offered in the class of 2023.

Today, we are going to take a look at the EDGE defenders.

Tigers extend offer to promising recruit from Lone Star state

On Tuesday, the Tigers extended an offer to 2023 edge rusher from Texas.

On Tuesday, the Auburn coaching staff extended an offer to 2023 four-star edge rusher Derion Gullette. His primary recruiter is first-year assistant coach [autotag]Roc Bellantoni[/autotag]. Bellantoni is also the edge rushers coach for the Tigers.

The Texas native certainly has the attributes to be an elite presence off the edge. At 6’2″ 220, his size is similar to current Auburn edge rusher Derrick Hall who is 6’3.5″ 215.

At his high school, Gullette thrived this past season as a wide receiver. He hauled in 62 receptions for 1,430 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. That wasn’t the only statistic that stood out.

On the defensive side of the ball, he recorded 125 tackles and 3 sacks. Auburn fans should be really glad that the coaching staff extended an offer to the versatile athlete from Texas.

Recruits react to weekend with Oklahoma on social media

What did recruits, coaches, and parents have to say via social media following Oklahoma’s latest recruiting weekend?

There are several themes coming out of Norman with every recruiting weekend and this past weekend was no different. Parents and recruits left from their visit with the Oklahoma Sooners with positive vibes and excited about what Brent Venables and his staff are building.

In the aftermath of Lincoln Riley’s abrupt departure for USC, the question became what would become of Oklahoma without the “chosen one.” As a recruiter, Brent Venables has answered the call and has the Oklahoma Sooners well positioned to build upon their 2022 recruiting class, which finished No. 8 in the nation, with a strong 2023 class as well.

Hosting one of two recruiting weekends in March aimed at the 2023 class, the Sooners welcomed players from across the country to show them everything the University of Oklahoma has to offer.

Will it lead to commitments? Only time will tell, but the Oklahoma Sooners continue to put themselves in a great spot on the recruiting trail. As recruits talk about the great time they had, it will open the door for OU’s coaches to get an opportunity with even more highly-rated recruits.

Here’s a look at some of the reactions from Oklahoma’s weekend visitors.

A comprehensive look at some of Oklahoma Football’s recent offers

Oklahoma has been busy on the recruiting trail. Here’s a look at some of the recent offers OU has sent out to 2023 and 2024 prospects.

National Signing Day is swiftly approaching on Feb. 2 and that means the 2022 class is just about finished.

With that date within shouting distance, it’s time for Oklahoma to turn its collective attention to the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes.

OU has been busy sending out offers and looking to establish momentum in both of their upcoming classes. Here’s a look at some of the names the Sooners have offered recently.
