Texas Football Recruiting: Top 2022 prospect decommits

Top Texas quarterback prospect Quinn Ewers announced on Twitter that he will be decommitting from the University of Texas.

One of the unfortunate side effects of losing football games is the recruiting aspect. When a team isn’t winning consistently or there are rumors about the future of the head coach, you can lose traction with certain prospects. That appears to be the came with the Texas Longhorns and top prospect Quinn Ewers. Ewers committed to Texas early on in the process but there were rumblings that he was looking at the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Those rumblings appear to have some weight behind them as the top quarterback in the 2022 class announced on Twitter that he would indeed decommit. These types of announcements can have a ripple effect with other recruits throughout the nation. Especially one that was recruiting behind the scenes for your football team.

With the uncertainty of Tom Herman’s future in Austin, it isn’t hard to see why Ewers wants to look elsewhere. Not to mention reports such as the one from ESPN on the lack of development do not do this school in favors. He could just be looking out for his best interest. Ohio State is one school that offered Ewers and could be the front runner for his recruitment. A school that has generated as much NFL talent as anyone else.

Texas Football Recruiting: 2021 four-star athlete Billy Bowman decommits

Texas’ 2021 recruiting misery continued on Wednesday, with Billy Bowman decommitting. He was UT’s second-highest rated recruit in the class.

Texas’ 2021 recruiting misery continued on Wednesday night, with Billy Bowman decommitting. A four-star athlete on the 247Sports composite, Bowman was the Longhorns’ second-highest rated recruiting in the class.

Coming out of Denton Ryan High School in the Dallas Fort Worth area, Bowman announced his decision via Twitter. Here is what he had to say:

I’ve decided to take a step back, analyze my future & dream goals. I want to thank everyone at The University of Texas for recruiting & beleiving in me. I will be decommitting & re-opening my recruitment. Thank you all for your support and prayers.

No Interviews Please

Defensive coordinator Chris Ash and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai have been the main recruiters for Bowman. The four-star prospect had committed to Texas back in July 2019. Now, Bowman will have 30 other offers to decide from.

Able to play wide receiver, defensive back, and even return punts, Bowman was listed as an athlete on 247Sports. Nationally, the senior was the No. 33 overall player and the No. 6 prospect in the state of Texas.

Texas’ 2021 class has dropped to No. 17 in the country. Bowman was seen as an intricate member of the #trUTh21 movement. Tom Herman’s off the field recruiting performance will not help his poor on the field results.

Gators recruiting target four-star DE Tunmise Adeleye decommits from OSU

Four-star strongside defensive end prospect Tunmise Adeleye announced on Tuesday his decision to decommit from OSU for the 2021 class cycle.

Four-star strongside defensive end prospect Tunmise Adeleye announced on Tuesday via Twitter his decision to decommit from Ohio State University for the 2021 recruiting class cycle.

The country’s No. 4 rated strongside defensive end and No. 30 overall recruit in the 2021 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings out of prospect powerhouse IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., committed to Ohio State back in April. At the time he said it was a lifelong dream of his to be Buckeye, but it appears that he has had a change of heart.

OSU is one of four schools listed by 247Sports as “warm” interest locations for the young defensive lineman’s services, which also includes the University of Florida, Alabama and Texas A&M.

While there are some concerns regarding size and athleticism, the 6-foot-3-inch, 245-pounder would add some more beef to a defensive line class that already includes five-star SDE Tyreak Sapp and three-star Justus Boone, as well as three-star defensive tackles Christopher Thomas and Desmond Watson, the latter who just recently committed to the Gators back on July 30.

2021 Florida CB commit Clinton Burton Jr. flips to Boston College

Burton flipped to the Boston College Eagles, breaking the news shortly after 10 p.m. ET with a video on his Twitter account.

One of the highest-rated members of the Florida Gators’ upcoming recruiting class, Baltimore, Maryland four-star cornerback Clinton Burton, Jr., announced he will be taking his talents elsewhere on July 17.

Burton flipped to the Boston College Eagles, breaking the news shortly after 10 p.m. ET with a two-minute and twenty-second video on his Twitter account.

Originally committing to position coach Torrian Gray and the Gators on September 2, 2019, Burton was the second-highest rated pledge for the program in the 2021 cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite, trailing only Fort Lauderdale four-star defensive end Tyreak Sapp.

He becomes the top commit for Boston College and the school’s lone current four-star in the class.

Last reaching the eight-win mark in 2009, the Eagles parted ways with head coach Steve Addazio, who spent six years as an assistant under Urban Meyer at Florida from 2005-10, in December after seven seasons.

To succeed him, the program hired Ohio State Buckeyes co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach Jeff Hafley. Regarded as one of college football’s best recruiters, the hiring of the 41-year-old New Jersey native seems to be paying immediate dividends for Boston College.

With Burton out of the picture, the Gators’ 2021 class now stands at 19 members and ranks No. 10 in America and fourth-best in the Southeastern Conference.

Florida has secured the verbal commitment of two other cornerbacks in the cycle, IMG Academy four-star Kamar Wilcoxson and Tampa three-star Jordan Young.

Three-star safety Gabe Nealy de-commits from Michigan State

Michigan State’s 2021 recruiting class now sits at 11 players.

It’s going to be a really weird recruiting year, so strap in.

After a blazing month of April on the recruiting trail, Michigan State and Mel Tucker have their first setback with three-star defensive back Gabe Nealy rescinding his commitment to the Spartans.

Speculation had been abound in the last week regarding the Miami product, who was one of the more outspoken and excited member’s of MSU’s 2021 recruiting class. Nealy–as prospects sometimes do–changed his social media pictures away from him in Michigan State gear and started tweeting social media graphics from other schools.

Crootin’.

Michigan State’s class is now down to 11 players. Three of those 11 still defensive backs. Prior to Nealy’s removal the class was ranked 31st in the country.

Landen King decommits from Texas

Landen King announced he was decommitting from Texas on Friday. The three-star prospect had been committed to UT since April 26, 2020.

2021 tight end Landen King announced he was decommitting from Texas on Friday. The three-star prospect from Atascocita, Texas had been committed to the Longhorns since April 26, 2020. In his tweet, King thanked head coach Tom Herman and the staff for the “amazing opportunity.”

King has never released a list naming his top schools, committing to Texas before having the opportunity to. While there are a few schools in contention for him, one has already been predicted to land King.

Just shortly after his announcement, 247Sports are predicting he will commit to Auburn. The Tigers offered King on April 3 and are now the favorite to land him. New offensive coordinator Chad Morris has been hot on the recruiting trail, trying to land weapons for quarterback Bo Nix.

Going forward for the Longhorns, they have offered six other tight ends in the 2021 class. Three of the six remain uncommitted, with four-star Moliki Matavao, four-star Dametrious Crownover, and three-star Lake McRee being options as replacements.

Despite the decommitment, Texas remains the top-ranked recruiting class in the Big 12. The 2021 class now consists of one five-star, six four-stars, and three three-star prospects.

Texas Longhorns Lose 2021 Three-Star Tight End’s Commitment

Lake Travis tight end Lake McRee has re-opened his recruitment after decommitting from Texas on Tuesday evening.

The Texas Longhorns lost a recruit from the 2021 class that was ranked fifth in the early going according to 247 composite boards. Lake Travis three-star tight end and former teammate of signee Hudson Card has announced that he is re-opening his recruitment per his twitter account Tuesday evening.

McRee didn’t play in 2019 after he tore his ACL per the report from Jeff Howe of 247. McRee currently holds offers from Alabama, Auburn and Arizona State among others. While losing the commitment is tough for the position, the Longhorns have a commitment from Juan Davis, three-star athlete out of Everman (Fort Worth, Texas) on their list of commits to the program. He plays tight end but is listed as an athlete on recruiting websites.

The Longhorns have eight offers on the table to other tight end recruits with Cane Berrong (Notre Dame) and Sam Hart (Ohio State) being off the table. McRee could still come back around after opening his recruitment back up but Texas won’t be lost at the position if he doesn’t.

2020 4* Defensive End decommits from Texas

2020 4* defensive end Van Fillinger has decommited from Texas. Fillinger is a 6’3, 205-pound strong-side defensive end from Draper, Utah.

2020 4* defensive end Van Fillinger has decommited from Texas, reopening his recruitment. According to 247 sports, Fillinger is a 6’3, 205-pound strong-side defensive end from Draper, Utah. He is the 13th ranked SDE in the country and the second overall player in the state of Utah.

Having 17 other offers, Kansas State was the only other Big 12 school to offer Fillinger. Most of his offers have come from the west coast, with Pac 12 schools like Oregon, USC, Utah, UCLA, and Washington interested. Crystal Ball now gives Utah a 62% chance to sign Fillinger.

The Longhorns now only have one other 2020 commit from the defensive line. Vernon Boughton is a 4* defensive tackle from Houston, TX, but Texas now does not have a defensive end commit in this upcoming recruiting cycle.
