Texas Football Recruiting: Top 2022 prospect decommits

Top Texas quarterback prospect Quinn Ewers announced on Twitter that he will be decommitting from the University of Texas.

One of the unfortunate side effects of losing football games is the recruiting aspect. When a team isn’t winning consistently or there are rumors about the future of the head coach, you can lose traction with certain prospects. That appears to be the came with the Texas Longhorns and top prospect Quinn Ewers. Ewers committed to Texas early on in the process but there were rumblings that he was looking at the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Those rumblings appear to have some weight behind them as the top quarterback in the 2022 class announced on Twitter that he would indeed decommit. These types of announcements can have a ripple effect with other recruits throughout the nation. Especially one that was recruiting behind the scenes for your football team.

With the uncertainty of Tom Herman’s future in Austin, it isn’t hard to see why Ewers wants to look elsewhere. Not to mention reports such as the one from ESPN on the lack of development do not do this school in favors. He could just be looking out for his best interest. Ohio State is one school that offered Ewers and could be the front runner for his recruitment. A school that has generated as much NFL talent as anyone else.
