Ohio State cornerback Davison Igbinosun ‘can check Marvin’ Harrison Jr.

BIA is making their way back #GoBucks

It has been a while since the [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] cornerbacks brought a certain amount of swagger to their play, but it seems like it is on it’s way back.

Although [autotag]Davison Igbinosun[/autotag] didn’t sign with the Buckeyes, he transferred in, his first preseason camp looks like it’s going very well. He was named as the Silver Bullet of the Day after the second practice, and today he told the media that he has been splitting rep wins against all-world wide receiver [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] at a 50/50 clip.

That is a welcome sight after what transpired last season with the unit, not registering an interception and seemingly getting burned more than a few times a game with costly penalties sprinkled in.

Of course, this is Igbinosun’s opinion and we have a feeling “marvelous Marvin” might have something to say about that, but it sounds like he’s at least holding his own.

Igbinosun was a Freshman All-American at Ole Miss, registering 36 total tackles while breaking up 5 passes. He didn’t record an interception during his lone season with the Rebels and hopefully that changes this fall.

Confidence in a cornerback is a trait you can’t teach and it looks like Igbinosun has plenty of it. This could be the beginning of the return of BIA (Best in America).

Five Ohio State defenders poised for a breakout 2023 season

Who makes the leap for the Buckeye defense this year? #GoBucks

After looking at which [autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] offensive players are primed for a breakout, it is time to give the other side of the ball the same treatment.

There are questions on this side of the ball for the Buckeyes, but they still return major contributors like defensive end J.T. Tuimoloua, and linebackers Tommy Eichenberg and [autotag]Steele Chambers[/autotag].

Defensive coordinator [autotag]Jim Knowles[/autotag] is entering his second year at the position and there should be a jump in production from players for multiple reasons, such as experience in the system. Find out which five players I believe are going to explode on the scene in 2023.

Top five Big Ten football defensive transfers for 2023

Look for these guys to show up in a big way in the Big Ten this fall. #B1G

Welcome to college football in 2023 where the transfer portal is a key factor in building a successful and winning program. This season many big names came to the Big Ten and an intriguing number of them are on the defensive side of the football.

Evaluating transfers is a bit like evaluating recruiting, it’s not necessarily about snagging the big fish such as Sam Hartman, but making sure the guy you snag can fill a need and fit a role the team needs.

We see many schools grab transfer after transfer, and they flame out not because of their lack of talent, but because the situation was not a great fit to begin with

Here are the five incoming transfers that should check every box as a difference maker for their new team on the defensive side of the ball.

247Sports thinks this Ohio State player created buzz during the spring

No surprises here #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] has been somewhat reluctant to go into the transfer portal and add players, but when there is an obvious need, head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] will make a move.

One of those moves was to bring in former Ole Miss cornerback Davison Igbinosun. The freshman All-American entered the Ohio State program with extremely high expectations and after the spring, it looks like he has met them.

Brad Crawford of 247Sports assembled a list of eleven players across the nation who created big-time buzz this spring and Igbinosun was picked as one of them.

The 6-foot, 2-inch, 190-pound corner brings much-needed size to the Buckeye secondary, but it’s not just about that. Crawford believes that Igbinosun “established himself with a guaranteed spot” in the two-deep, challenging for a starting spot.

Although Igbinosun didn’t stand out too much during the Scarlet and Gray game, it was about his work done throughout every other spring practice. Expect to hear his name early and often this fall.

Former Ohio State star Chimdi Chekwa impressed with multiple Buckeye defenders

Former Buckeye Chekwa saw more than a few players stick out #GoBucks

It’s pretty normal for former [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] stars to get an invite to spring practice and come back “home.” One of those players was former All-American cornerback, [autotag]Chimdi Chekwa[/autotag].

The Buckeyes held a scrimmage yesterday, and Chekwa was on hand with his family to watch the action. It’s always interesting to see who they see as standouts. It should not come as a surprise that the star defender kept a close eye on what was happening on that side of the ball.

Chekwa tweeted that Ohio State has plenty of work to do but multiple players stood out to him: cornerbacks [autotag]Davison Igbinosun[/autotag] and [autotag]Ryan Turner[/autotag] along with defensive end [autotag]Kenyatta Jackson[/autotag].

It’s great to hear that the cornerbacks stood out, especially given their struggles. Igbinosun, the transfer, is already getting rave reviews from multiple sources. Hearing Jackson is taking the next step is big, especially with Zach Harrison Jr. moving on to the next level. Turner hasn’t created much buzz, but impressing the former All-American at his position is good news.

This clip from Ohio State’s spring practice gives hope for defensive back improvement

This group has to be better this fall, doesn’t it? #GoBucks

This past season the Ohio State cornerbacks did not fare well at all. The group totaled no interceptions and had plenty of costly penalties called on them as they rarely looked for the ball while it was in the air.

It seems like Buckeye defensive coordinator [autotag]Jim Knowles[/autotag] and secondary coach [autotag]Tim Walton[/autotag] are trying to fix that. In this clip shared on Twitter by Dan Hope, it looks like the group is making a much more concerted effort to look for the ball while it’s in the air.

The Ohio State secondary will have plenty of different names roaming the backend of the defense, some new (Davison Igbinosun and Ja’Had Carter) and some old ([autotag]Sonny Styles[/autotag] and [autotag]Denzel Burke[/autotag]). The hope is that this mix of new and old in the 2023 season will have much better results.

If Ohio State can figure things out on the back end of the defense and limit some of those big plays we saw the last couple of years, there could be a lot of memorable moments playing for some pretty special things this coming season.

BOOM! Ohio State gets a commitment from transfer cornerback

The Buckeyes get a big win in the transfer portal. #GoBucks #Boom

It looked very promising Monday for [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] with Ole Miss transfer cornerback [autotag]Davison Igbinosun[/autotag] after 247Sports’ Chris Hummer logged a crystal ball pick for him to choose the Buckeyes.

It didn’t take long afterward for Igbinosun to announce his commitment to Ohio State: He committed to the Buckeyes on Tuesday. This is a huge win for head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] because the cornerback fills a big need in the secondary. He showed a great deal of promise during a freshman All-American campaign.

The depth Igbinosun will provide means there will not be as much pressure on a pair of incoming freshman to produce early. He is expect to contribute immediately in the Buckeye secondary.

Ohio State trending to add SEC defensive back in transfer portal

This would be a huge transfer portal win for the Buckeyes #GoBucks

As we outlined in our recruiting weekend recap, former Ole Miss cornerback [autotag]Davison Igbinosun[/autotag] visited Ohio State this past weekend. What we didn’t know was where the freshman All-American was leaning after his visits.

There was some very good news on that today. 247Sports transfer portal specialist Chris Hummer put in a crystal ball for Igbinosun to end up at Ohio State.

This is huge news for [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and defensive coordinator [autotag]Jim Knowles[/autotag] for multiple reasons. First, the cornerback depth is lacking. There are just six scholarship players at the position, including the incoming freshman.

Experience is also needed. Even though he was just a true freshman, Igbinosun made a big impact this past season, registering 36 tackles with 5 passes broken up. He’s a longer cornerback, too. At 6 feet, 2 inches and 185 pounds, he’d be the biggest on the roster.

If the crystal ball turns out to be accurate, Igbinosun would fill a big need for the Buckeyes and would be a start toward quieting the chatter that this staff can’t recruit transfers.

Ohio State football recruiting roundup for late January 2023

The Buckeyes were active on the recruiting trail this weekend #GoBucks

The Ohio State football staff knows what keeps the program elite, recruiting the best athletes in the country. It doesn’t stop — even during dead periods, [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] and his staff are analyzing prospects and making changes to their recruiting priorities.

This past weekend was no different, as multiple offers went out. The Buckeyes not only hosted a transfer cornerback from the SEC, but coaches also visited high schools to make in-roads with those coaches and their recruits.

Find out below who was offered, how the visit went with the transfer, and where some of the coaching staff visited during the last weekend of January (plus some offers missed on Thursday).

Transfer portal defensive back from SEC schedules visit to Ohio State

Four-star transfer portal defensive back schedules visit to Ohio State #GoBucks

The Ohio State Buckeyes have attempted to be active in the transfer portal and have actually already added some talent in former Syracuse safety, Ja’Had Carter. We have previously talked about the likelihood of adding more defensive talent through the portal and it looks like the next possible prospect comes in from the SEC.

Davison Igbinosun is a former four-star cornerback from New Jersey in the 2022 class, and after spending one season at Ole Miss is looking to make a change. The former high school All-American wasted no time seeing the field, starting ten games and accumulating 36 tackles and five pass breakups this past season.

Igbinosun is scheduled to visit Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend and is strongly considering the Buckeyes, Michigan, and Tennessee.  He has been considered one of the best portal entries this off-season and is expected to improve upon his Freshman All-American 2022 season. Igbinosun elected to enter the portal after Ole Miss elected to make some coaching changes on the defensive side of the football.
