Ravens elevate two players from practice squad for Week 2 matchup vs. Dolphins

The Ravens elevated two players from their practice squad for their Week 2 game against the Dolphins

The Baltimore Ravens will take on the Miami Dolphins in a Week 2 battle, featuring two teams that emerged victorious from their opening game of the 2022 season. There is immense talent on both sides, which should make for a rather close game when the clock hits zero.

On Saturday, Baltimore announced that they elevated two players from their practice squad in wide receiver Raleigh Webb and cornerback Daryl Worley. The duo will help with the depth at their respective positions, which have seen some injuries pop up over the coming days and weeks.

Both Webb and Worley played for the Ravens during the 2022 preseason, impressing in their action. Worley struggled during game action in 2021, but will hope to make an impact on the field this time around. Webb made multiple big plays during the team’s exhibition games, and will potentially have the ability to get on the field with fellow wide receiver James Proche II listed as doubtful with a groin injury.

Ravens sign CB, place OLB on injured reserve

The Ravens signed a cornerback and placed an outside linebacker on injured reserve on Monday

The Baltimore Ravens had to do plenty of roster shuffling over the course of the 2021 season with how many injuries the team went through. They finished the year at 8-9 after a six-game losing streak, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

Baltimore has seen some positional groups need some infusion of depth so far in 2022, with cornerback and outside linebacker being two of them. On Monday the team announced that they made two roster moves, signing cornerback Daryl Worley while placing outside linebacker Vince Biegel on injured reserve with a torn achilles.

Worley is entering his seventh season in the NFL, and spent part of the 2021 season with the Ravens after injuries decimated the cornerback position. In his career he’s totaled 272 tackles and five interceptions.

Biegel was vying for a 53-man roster spot in Baltimore, but suffered a torn achilles in practice on Thursday. It’s the second torn achilles in three years for the veteran, and the third season-ending injury in three years. Baltimore could look to add more depth at the position before the year begins depending on the health of Tyus Bowser and David Ojabo.

Ravens bring in three CBs for tryouts

The Ravens brought in three cornerbacks for tryouts

The Baltimore Ravens went through many different injuries during the 2021 season. One of the positions that was hit the hardest for the team was at cornerback, so the team made sure to improve their depth over the course of the 2022 offseason by signing free agents and drafting prospects that can make an impact both now and in the future.

On Sunday, news came out that Baltimore had tried out three cornerbacks in Ken Crawley, Darryl Roberts and Daryl Worley. The team could look to add one of the three for extra defensive back depth, especially for training camp and the preseason.

Worley, a six-year veteran, has played for eight different NFL teams, which includes a stint with the Ravens during the 2021 season. Worley was signed to the team’s practice squad in December, and in one game with Baltimore notched five combined tackles.

Roberts, another six-year veteran, is also another well-traveled defensive back. Roberts has played for seven NFL teams, most recently with the Washington Commanders. Roberts has notched 223 combined tackles, four interceptions and one fumble recovery in 73 games played.

Crawley, a six-year veteran, has spent most of his time as a defensive back with the New Orleans Saints. He’s also spent time with the Miami Dolphins, and has totaled 138 combined tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble in his career.

Ravens sign one player to practice squad, work out another two

The Baltimore Ravens signed one player to their practice squad and worked out another two

The Baltimore Ravens have seen their practice squad change almost weekly as they shuffle it around to fill needs and have players ready to appear in games if needed. With how many injuries the team has gone through, they’ve needed players on their practice squad to stay ready, and they’ve responded in a big way.

On Tuesday, Baltimore announced that they signed cornerback Daryl Worley to their practice squad. Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic shared that the team also worked out offensive tackle Darrin Paulo and defensive back Jamar Taylor.

Worley worked out for the Ravens earlier in the year, and now finds himself with the team as they make a run at the playoffs. Worley has spent six years in the NFL, accumulating 267 total tackles and five interceptions across 69 games.

Paulo was signed to a futures contract in January with the Denver Broncos, but was waived in February. He played college football at the University of Utah.

Taylor has spent eight years in the NFL, totaling 264 tackles and five interceptions.

Lions bring back OL Tommy Kraemer to the practice squad

Kraemer made his NFL debut in Week 8 and was expected to return to the Lions

The players aren’t practicing this week during the bye, but the Detroit Lions still made a tweak to the team’s practice squad on Thursday. In an expected move, the Lions brought back rookie offensive lineman Tommy Kraemer to the practice squad.

Kraemer made his NFL debut in Sunday’s 44-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, playing the final four offensive snaps. The undrafted rookie from Notre Dame signed to the active roster during the week. He was waived on Monday to help make room for the return of LT Taylor Decker and DE Kevin Strong from injured reserve.

To make room for Kraemer, the Lions released veteran cornerback Daryl Worley. They had made the same transactional series with Worley one week earlier, signing him back to the practice squad a week after putting him on the active roster due to injuries at his position.

Lions waive CB Daryl Worley after rough outing vs. Rams

Worley did not play well enough in reserve duty on Sunday to keep his roster spot

The Detroit Lions opened up another spot on the 53-man active roster by waiving veteran cornerback Daryl Worley. The CB struggled in relief duty for injured slot corner AJ Parker in the Lions’ Week 7 loss to the Rams.

As a vested veteran, Worley is not subject to waiver claims by other teams.

Worley was beaten several times in coverage despite playing just 17 snaps against the Rams. He was beaten for Los Angeles’ final touchdown on a simple drag route across the formation. In two games with the Lions, Worley recorded two tackles in 37 total snaps.

The move comes without a corresponding roster addition at this time.

Lions vs. Rams: Best and worst PFF grades from Week 7

The Detroit Lions best and worst performers in PFF grades from their Week 7 loss against the Los Angeles Rams

Amongst their luggage, the Detroit Lions brought their bag of tricks against the Los Angeles Rams. It wasn’t enough to overcome the high-powered Rams as the Lions lost their seventh straight this season to a 28-19 defeat.

The majority of the populous did not give the Lions a shot at even competing with a potential Super Bowl contender, figuring they would get embarrassed out of Los Angeles. However, with two fake punts and a successful onside kick, the Lions were able to steal processions away and gave them a shot at potentially stealing this game away from the Rams. Unfortunately, the Lions were not able to capitalize on those efforts due to untimely mistakes but let me tell you, that is probably the most entertaining Lions game in quite some time.

Considering how often the Lions have been set as major underdogs this season, they have held tight against tough teams, giving some hope that the Lions are heading in the right direction. You can see the improvements the players are making and the coaching staff taking each loss as a lesson learned and applying for future matchups.

With this week’s top PFF performers, who can see the massive steps forward taken amongst the player, the bottom players are trying to find their footing.

Daryl Worley in line for much bigger role in the Lions secondary

Worley saw his first Lions action at safety in Week 4 but could play all over the secondary

One week ago, Daryl Worley was still on the Detroit Lions practice squad. Now the veteran defensive back could be in a starting role as the most experienced player in the secondary.

Worley saw his first Lions action in the Week 4 matchup in Chicago, playing 20 snaps on defense. While he’s been a cornerback for his entire six-year NFL career, Worley’s reps came at safety against the Bears.

And that could continue, even with the Lions’ rampant injuries and glaring inexperience at cornerback. Coach Dan Campbell liked what he saw from Worley and values his versatility.

“We like Worley,” Campbell said after Sunday’s loss. “We brought him in. He did a couple things in practice for us. So we wanted to get some eyes on him, see where he was at. He’s a smart guy. He’s got a little versatility, corner, safety, nickel. And so, yeah, I mean, we’re just — we’re trying to find the best guys we can here that can help us. And also develop some of these young pups.”

The Lions currently start Amani Oruwariye and Bobby Price at outside cornerback AJ Parker in the slot role. Price left Sunday’s game with an injury, which brought in Jerry Jacobs. Tracy Walker and Will Harris are the starting safeties, though veteran Dean Marlowe has seen his role as the third safety increase in the last two weeks. Worley’s ability to play at safety or any CB spot makes him a very valuable asset for the Detroit secondary, which is searching for answers after a largely terrible first four games.

Worley’s experience can’t hurt. He has started 54 career games since being a third-round pick by the Cardinals in 2016. The 26-year-old bounced around three NFL teams in 2020 after two seasons as a full-time starter at outside CB for the Raiders.

Lions PFF grades: Best and worst players against the Bears from Week 4

The Detroit Lions PFF grades reflect the continued struggles in the secondary and average showing from the offense against the Chicago Bears

The Detroit Lions seemed to be on the up and up competing against the top-tier teams this season. Heading into Week 4, you had to believe they were feeling good against the Chicago Bears team that gave up nine sacks the previous week. The only kicker was they competing against the Bears and themselves, turning to be their downfall.

With poor execution, sub-par defensive play, and the constant shot footing, the Lions could not get anything figured out until it was too late. Also, to add injury to insult, the Lions lost their best defensive player, Romeo Okwara, for the season, making a poor defense much weaker in the long run.

There weren’t too many stellar players this week, and it reflected in this week’s PFF grades for the Lions.

The Detroit Lions made another injury-related move in the secondary. Detroit signed veteran cornerback Daryl Worley from the practice squad to take the place of rookie CB Ifeatu Melinfownu, who was placed on injured reserve.

Melifonwu was injured in the second half of the Lions’ Monday night loss in Green Bay. he pulled up awkwardly after running down Packers WR Davante Adams on a deep pass route.

Worley joined the Lions practice squad last week. He was signed when Jeff Okudah went on I.R. for his Achilles injury suffered in Week 1. Melifonwu took over as the starter for Okudah.
