Packers work out WRs Geronimo Allison, Danny Davis

The Packers included wide receivers Geronimo Allison and Danny Davis in the team’s workouts on Tuesday.

The Green Bay Packers worked out wide receivers Geronimo Allison and Danny Davis on Tuesday, according to the league’s daily transaction report.

Allison, 28, spent four seasons in Green Bay after signing with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He caught 89 passes for 1,045 yards and eight touchdowns over 46 games, including 34 catches in 16 games during Matt LaFleur’s first season with the Packers in 2019. After leaving Green Bay and eventually opting out of the 2020 season, Allison spent time with the Detroit Lions (2021) and Atlanta Falcons (2022).

Davis, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Wisconsin, spent the first four weeks of training camp with the Packers but was released with an injury designation on Aug. 23. He injured his ankle after catching a touchdown pass from Jordan Love in the team’s preseason opener. He played 24 snaps and caught two passes for 45 yards in his one and only preseason game.

Neither player was immediately signed, but it’s possible the Packers will add one of the receivers as an emergency option on the practice squad. Neither is likely to be an option for the 53-man roster at this point in their respective NFL careers.

The Packers also worked out offensive tackles Sage Doxater (New Mexico State), Derek Kerstetter (Texas) and Sam Schlueter (Minnesota) and center Chris Owens (Alabama).

Falcons sign WR Geronimo Allison, two other players

The Falcons have signed veteran wide receiver Geronimo Allison, tight end Tucker Fisk and defensive back Tre Webb.

The Atlanta Falcons wrapped up rookie minicamp over the weekend and on Monday, they added three camp attendees to their roster.

According to the team’s Twitter account, the Falcons have signed veteran wide receiver Geronimo Allison, tight end Tucker Fisk and defensive back Tre Webb.

Allison is another big wideout (6-foot-3), who goes along with the team’s recent trend of signing tall pass-catchers. The 28-year-old spent four seasons with the Green Bay Packers and one with the Detroit Lions. Over his 49 career NFL games, Allison has 89 catches for 1,045 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Fisk is a versatile tight end that played both offense and defense at Stanford. As for Webb, the former San Jose State standout transferred to Montana State in 2021. He played with Falcons second-round pick Troy Andersen last season.

Atlanta also released Chad Hansen, Luther Kirk and Daniel Helm.

Ravens host two NFL veterans for tryouts during rookie minicamp

The Ravens held tryouts for two NFL veterans during their rookie minicamp

The Baltimore Ravens are in the middle of their 2022 rookie minicamp, giving them a first-time up-close look at their newest draft class. However, among the rookies there were two NFL veterans showcasing their skills as they look to potentially establish a new home.

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh let it be known on Saturday that the team was hosting defensive lineman Marcell Dareus as well as wide receiver Geronimo Allison tryouts during their minicamp.

Dareus, a No. 3 overall pick out of Alabama, would bring depth to the Ravens’ defensive line that has seen Justin Ellis leave in free agency as well as Brandon Williams seemingly unlikely re-sign with the team. He last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019. Through nine seasons, the defensive tackle has been selected to two Pro Bowls, has been named a First-Team All-Pro, notched 37.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumbles recovered and has 365 combined tackles in 121 games.

Allison went undrafted in 2016 and has plenty of experience in the NFL over the last five seasons, with four of those coming with a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Aaron Rodgers. Through his career, the wide receiver has 1,045 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 89 receptions.

Lions waive CB Saivion Smith, get WR Geronimo Allison back on the practice squad

The Lions waive CB Saivion Smith, get WR Geronimo Allison back on the practice squad

Saivion Smith, we hardly knew ye…

The Lions parted ways with cornerback Saivion Smith, waiving the second-year CB on Thursday. It comes after just two games and minimal playing time.

Smith first arrived in Detroit just after Week 14 when the Lions claimed him off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers. He was brought in to help with a major rash of injuries and a COVID-19 outbreak at the position. In two games, Smith played a total of 14 snaps on special teams, recording one tackle. He never appeared on defense.

Detroit also restored wide receiver Geronimo Allison to the practice squad after he cleared COVID-19 protocols and was activated from that reserve list.

Geronimo Allison returns to the Lions practice squad

Allison was released earlier this week but never left Detroit

Geronimo Allison wasn’t an ex-Lion for long. The Lions brought the veteran wide receiver back to Detroit two days after releasing Allison by adding him to the practice squad on Thursday morning.

Allison was waived earlier this week after seeing little action and failing to catch a pass in three games. He was signed as a free agent from the Green Bay Packers prior to the 2020 season and was expected to help the team as a field-stretching vertical threat. But Allison opted out of the 2020 season and did not find a role in 2021.

To make room for Allison on the practice squad, the team released wide receiver Travis Jonsen. The move to bring back Allison was widely expected upon his release.

Lions waive WR Geronimo Allison

Lions waive WR Geronimo Allison and make changes to the protected practice squad

Geronimo Allison’s time with the Detroit Lions has come to an end. The Lions released the veteran wideout on Tuesday.

Allison did not pan out as hoped when the Lions signed him as a free agent before the 2020 season. The former Packer opted out of the 2020 campaign. He played sparingly in time between the active roster and practice squad in Detroit this season. Allison failed to catch a pass in three games with the Lions.

Allison is subject to waiver claims from other teams.

Practice Squad Changes

After adding kicker Riley Patterson to the active roster, the Lions also signed K Aldrick Rosas to the practice squad. And they felt strong enough about the journeyman kicker to protect him with this week’s practice squad group.

Rosas joins DT Bruce Hector, QB Steven Montez and TE Shane Zylstra with this week’s protected class.

In addition, the team terminated the practice squad contract of K Ryan Santoso.

Lions vs. Rams: Best and worst PFF grades from Week 7

The Detroit Lions best and worst performers in PFF grades from their Week 7 loss against the Los Angeles Rams

Amongst their luggage, the Detroit Lions brought their bag of tricks against the Los Angeles Rams. It wasn’t enough to overcome the high-powered Rams as the Lions lost their seventh straight this season to a 28-19 defeat.

The majority of the populous did not give the Lions a shot at even competing with a potential Super Bowl contender, figuring they would get embarrassed out of Los Angeles. However, with two fake punts and a successful onside kick, the Lions were able to steal processions away and gave them a shot at potentially stealing this game away from the Rams. Unfortunately, the Lions were not able to capitalize on those efforts due to untimely mistakes but let me tell you, that is probably the most entertaining Lions game in quite some time.

Considering how often the Lions have been set as major underdogs this season, they have held tight against tough teams, giving some hope that the Lions are heading in the right direction. You can see the improvements the players are making and the coaching staff taking each loss as a lesson learned and applying for future matchups.

With this week’s top PFF performers, who can see the massive steps forward taken amongst the player, the bottom players are trying to find their footing.

Lions sign WR Geronimo Allison to the active roster

The Lions have signed WR Geronimo Allison to the active roster from the practice squad

Even though he didn’t factor into the passing game in his first time in a Lions uniform, Detroit saw enough in veteran wide receiver Geronimo Allison to officially sign him to the active roster. The Lions signed Allison off the team’s practice squad roster on Wednesday in advance of the Week 7 trip to Los Angeles to face the Rams.

Allison was elevated from the practice squad in the Week 6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He played 13 snaps on offense but did not see a target. It was his first action since signing with the Lions as a free agent prior to the 2020 season. Allison opted out of the 2020 campaign and has bounced between the practice squad and a gameday inactive on the active roster for the first six weeks of 2021.

The Lions had an open spot on the roster after placing CB Corey Ballentine on IR late last week.

Lions elevate Geronimo Allison and Nickell Robey-Coleman from the practice squad

Allison and Robey-Coleman provide some veteran presence to positions that sorely need it for Week 6

Veteran help is on the way for the Detroit Lions for Sunday’s home matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Lions elevated wide receiver Geronimo Allison and cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman from the practice squad for the Week 6 game.

Both Allison and Robey-Coleman are standard elevations, which means they will revert back to the practice squad after the game. The NFL altered the rules to allow teams to activate a total of 55 players for game days. It’s the first elevation of the season for both vets.

Allison provides a more proven outside threat for QB Jared Goff, who has struggled to find downfield targets. Robey-Coleman has years of starting experience in the slot and bolsters an inexperienced secondary that starts two undrafted rookies in Jerry Jacobs and AJ Parker at CB.

Lions bring WR Geronimo Allison back to the practice squad

Allison caught five passes for 64 yards in the preseason for Detroit

The Detroit Lions have brought wide receiver Geronimo Allison back into the den. The team announced it has signed the veteran wideout to the practice squad on Wednesday morning.

Allison was with the Lions throughout the offseason but was released following the preseason. He caught five passes for 64 yards in the three preseason games. Allison originally signed with the Lions as a free agent prior to the 2020 season after spending his early career with the Green Bay Packers.

The 27-year-old opted out of the 2020 campaign for COVID-19 purposes. He offers the Lions some vertical speed and size on the outside.

Detroit had an opening on the practice squad after the Carolina Panthers signed kicker Zane Gonzalez on Tuesday.
