5 pending free agents the Bills should consider re-signing in 2024

5 pending free agents the #Bills should consider re-signing in 2024:

The Buffalo Bills have plenty of free agents slated to hit the open market.

The Bills have time to still sign players to extensions, but it’s never so cut-and-dry. According to Over The Cap, Buffalo is estimated to be more than $40 million over the 2024 NFL salary cap.

Moves must be made to get there and general manager Brandon Beane will earn his salary with the decisions ahead.

But Beane’s work is not the type of operation that’s never been completed before. Teams and players can restructure contracts, move dollars and cents around, and create cap space.

Once that’s done, Beane will then consider who to bring in and who to re-sign. Here are five pending free agents the Bills should take a look into re-signing this offseason:

PFF says Bills should re-sign DaQuan Jones

PFF says #Bills should re-sign DaQuan Jones:

The Buffalo Bills have plenty of free agents

Their salary cap situation ahead of 2024 isn’t looking good, either. Currently the team is more than $40 million over the cap.

General manager Brandon Beane has his work cut out for him. But if he finds the space, Pro Football Focus has picked one player Buffalo should re-sign among their pending free agents:  Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones.

Jones put up 2.5 sacks in 2023 but had a pectoral injury disrupt things. The start to his year was much better, but even so, PFF thinks bringing the 32-year-old back for another season would make sense.

Here is PFF’s breakdown on Jones re-signing in Buffalo:

The Bills got a lot out of rotational defensive linemen this year, with a handful of guys stepping up at critical points throughout the season, but the lack of interior defensive line depth alongside Ed Oliver makes Jones’ return all the more important

Edge defenders Leonard Floyd and A.J. Epenesa also stepped up in 2023 in the absence of Von Miller, and Floyd, in particular, performed well on his one-year flier. But the lack of interior defender depth led to late-season additions like Linval Joseph playing meaningful snaps for Buffalo. Before getting hurt, Jones had the highest pressure rate among all interior defenders through Week 4 (20.8%).

Bills players react to Bobby Babich being named defensive coordinator

#Bills players react to Bobby Babich being named defensive coordinator:

The Bills remained in-house when it came to their defensive coordinator position.

After Leslie Frazier stepped down from the post prior to last season, head coach Sean McDermott decided to take over the role. While doing so, McDermott called the plays throughout last year and we still don’t know if him or Babich will be responsible for that moving forward.

Regardless, a couple of players on the Bills expressed their thoughts on Babich being promoted from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator. They are happy.

Check out a few Bills player reactions to the Babich news below:

Who will stay and who will go?

As another season of Buffalo Bills football has come to an end, so have another series of contracts that have been signed.

Whether it be grizzled veterans or players seeing the end of their rookie contracts, there are plenty of faces who will not long be under contract in Buffalo in March when free agency opens.

The Bills have plenty of time until then to sign players to extensions, but it’s never so cut-and-dry. According to Over The Cap, Buffalo is estimated to be $49 million over the 2024 NFL salary cap.

Moves must be made and general manager Brandon Beane will earn his own salary with the decisions ahead.

PFF: 5 highest-graded Bills players on defense in Wild Card

#Bills defenders leading the way:

The Buffalo Bills won their Wild Card matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 31-17 final.

The Bills (11-6) had a few players that stood out above the rest. On defense, the Bills were led by an attacking defensive front the Steelers could not handle.

In terms of the players who helped them pull out the win, Buffalo will hope such efforts continue from some players throughout the rest of the 2023 playoffs as they aim for the Super Bowl.

According to Pro Football Focus, they’ll need these players to keep it up.

Here are the five highest-graded Bills players on defense Steelers in the Wild Card round:

Report card: Bills top Steelers, 31-17

Report card: #Bills top #Steelers, 31-17:

The Buffalo Bills have worked their way through the Pittsburgh Steelers and are now onto the Divisional round of the AFC postseason.

Buffalo put together an effort that was strong throughout the contest. But not all three phases. While not a team that has covered the spread often this season, Pittsburgh was behind it throughout most of the game because of a strong effort up-and-down the Bills roster.

With that, here’s Bills Wire’s report card following the team’s 31-17 Wild Card win:

Every Penn State player in the NFL playoffs in 2024

Here is every former Penn State football player on an NFL playoff team’s roster in 2024.

Another NFL postseason is set to get underway, and there is a good chance at least one team playing in the Super Bowl will have a Penn State player on the roster. All but two teams in this year’s NFL playoffs have at least one Penn State player on the roster this year. The top seeds in each conference have multiple Penn State players on the roster, seemingly making it more likely Penn State will see a former player earn a Super Bowl ring.

In all, a total of 64 Super Bowl rings have been won by a former Penn State player. Last year’s Super Bowl had just one former Penn State player on the field, but Miles Sanders and the Philadelphia Eagles came up short of winning the big game. There is an excellent chance there will be more than one former Nittany Lion competing in the Super Bowl this postseason.

The Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns are the only two teams in the NFL postseason without a Penn State player on the roster. Here is a look at every Penn State player on an NFL playoff team’s roster this postseason.

Bills snap counts: Depth chart breakdown vs. Patriots

Defense had the interesting notes:

The Buffalo Bills got after it against the New England Patriots and ended up taking a close win, 27-21, on Sunday afternoon in Week 17.

But who exactly were the ones on the field for the Bills (10-6) doing all the dirty work against the Patriots (4-12)?

More often than not, taking a look in between the lines at snap count totals for Buffalo’s players can give us some insight as to what went down in between the lines on the gridiron.

There is always plenty to discover when looking at these finer details.

With that, here’s how the Bills depth chart broke down via snap counts in their latest win against the Patriots:

Bills officially activate DaQuan Jones from injured reserve

#Bills officially activate DaQuan Jones from injured reserve:

The Buffalo Bills officially have defensive tackle DaQuan Jones back in their lineup ahead of facing the New England Patriots in Week 17.

Jones was activated from the team’s injured reserve list ahead of hosting the Patriots (4-11) on Sunday at Highmark Stadium:

On Thursday, the Bills (9-6) released offensive lineman Germain Ifedi in what appeared to be a transaction to open a roster space. Most assumed Jones would be taking that place, which has now happened.

Jones, 31, has 2.5 sacks and three tackles for loss this season in four games played. He sustained a pectoral injury which kept him sidelined most of the year.

At the time of his injury, Pro Football Focus graded Jones an excellent 90.5 overall mark. That was their fifth-best defensive tackle grade in the NFL at the time.
