2021 four-star CB Deuce Harmon picks Texas A&M over Texas

Texas has lost an in-state battle to Texas A&M for Deuce Harmon. Coming out of Denton Guyer, Harmon picked the Aggies over six schools.

A couple of days after picking up a new crystal ball prediction for 2021 cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem, Texas has a lost an in-state recruiting battle to Texas A&M for another cornerback, Deuce Harmon. Coming out of Denton Guyer, Harmon picked the Aggies over Notre Dame, Oregon, SMU, Texas, TCU, and USC.

Back on April 6, Harmon released a top 10 list which did not include the Longhorns. Despite being one of the best in-state cornerbacks, Texas had not extended an offer. Three days later on April 9, Chris Ash offered Harmon. Despite the offer and making his top seven list, it was too little too late, as Texas A&M had been recruiting Harmon consistently throughout the year.

Harmon left his recruitment open though, saying he would “still plan on taking visits,” when everything reopens in the fall. Texas could have the opportunity to flip the Texas A&M commit, something that has only happened twice since 2010.

Listed at 5-9 and 185 pounds, what Harmon lacks in size, he makes up for with athleticism. Seen as a good defender in man to man situations, he would fit ideally into Ash’s new system.

For now, Harmon is committed to the Aggies and will be spending his college years in College Station. The door is still open for the Longhorns though, as spending more time with the cornerback could see him make an unusual flip to Texas.

Clayton Smith commits to Oklahoma over Texas, LSU

2021 4* OLB Clayton Smith has committed to play at Oklahoma. Smith is the Sooners’ top-ranked defensive player in the 2021 recruiting class.

Another in-state prospect will be leaving the state of Texas, with 2021 four-star outside linebacker Clayton Smith going north of the border to Norman. The top-rated linebacker in the state, Smith is Oklahoma’s top-ranked defensive player in the 2021 class.

According to the 247Sports composite, Smith is the eighth-ranked outside linebacker in the country and the 17th ranked overall player in the state of Texas. Smith chose the Sooners over Florida State, Kentucky, LSU, Oregon, and Texas.

12 out of the top 20 players in the state of Texas have committed so far, with seven going out of state. LSU and Oklahoma have landed a couple prospects, while Ohio State and USC have also entered the Lone Star State.

Despite Smith and four-star wide receiver Mario Williams committing today, Oklahoma still ranks third in the Big 12 for the 2021 recruiting cycle. Texas and Baylor both sit ahead of the Sooners, as the Longhorns continue to have the only five-star commitment in the conference.

As for recruiting more outside linebackers in the 2021 class, Texas may be set with what they have. Four-star Derrick Harris Jr. has been committed since August 3, 2019, while three-star Morice Blackwell committed earlier this month.

Three-star Terrance Cooks is 100% towards the Longhorns on 247Sports Crystal Ball, but Tom Herman may be set with the recruits the have at the position.

The defensive tackle attended Robert E. Lee high school in Montgomery and decided to stay in state by choosing Alabama over Auburn…

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have landed their second commitment for the 2021 class from three-star defensive tackle from Montgomery, Alabama, Anquin Barnes.

Barnes is the second recruit to commit to Alabama as they landed four-star linebacker Deontae Lawson, another in-state recruit.

Barnes was given three stars from 247Sports, but is expected to eventually be bumped up as a four-star recruit.

The defensive tackle attended Robert E. Lee high school in Montgomery and decided to stay in state by choosing Alabama over Auburn. Barnes also received other SEC offers from the University of Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and had interest from Mississippi State.

He made his announcement via Twitter.

It didn’t seem to be a difficult decision for him, as he mentions in his commitment statement that Alabama is a school he’s had his eyes on since he knew about football.

Lawson and Barnes have combined to bring Alabama to be ranked No. 55 in the country for the 2021 recruitment cycle. However, it is still early and the Crimson Tide is expected to climb the rankings rather quickly.
