Strong chance USC-UCLA could be a late-night game, which would be awful

#USC – #UCLA was put on a 6-day hold by the TV networks. The outcome is bad for the #Pac12 and could get much worse for us and @Ducks_Wire

It is not a surprise — or a problem — that the upcoming USC-UCLA football game was placed on a six-day hold, meaning that the scheduled kickoff time and the assigned television network will not be disclosed until Sunday, Nov. 13 (or at least no later than the 13th). It was and is unlikely that a start time would be disclosed before Nov. 12, when another Saturday of games unfolds.

The problem is that the Pac-12, which is trying to return to the College Football Playoff for the first time since the 2016 season, will have reduced exposure in the pursuit of that playoff bid.

We have full reaction to the announcement of the six-day hold for the USC-UCLA and Utah-Oregon games, with an explanation of why this is such an embarrassment for the Pac-12:

ESPN’s College GameDay picks their winners for week 7

One half of the Manning-cast joined the crew and made his picks

Multiple top 25 matchups this weekend and two top ten tilts made ESPN’s decision fairly difficult but they ended up heading to SEC country for the No. 3 Alabama at No. 6 Tennessee contest. The crew of Chris Fowler, Lee Corso (welcome back after a two-week hiatus), Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit were joined by Peyton Manning, who needs no introduction. Find out below from the group of Howard, McAfee, Corso, Herbstreit and Manning on who they believe will win this weekend.

Chris Fowler will not call a single USC football game through Nov. 18 (maybe longer)

Fowler doesn’t decide what ESPN does, but the network picked Clemson-Florida State for prime time Oct. 15. USC-Utah is on Fox. Fowler hasn’t called a USC game in 2022.

The arrival of Lincoln Riley in Los Angeles seemed to suggest that USC football would become a destination program for the top announcers and announcing crews in college football. Number one in the sport: Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit of ABC/ESPN.

Chris Fowler is the current voice of college football. He has the call for the national championship game each year. Fowler, the longtime host of ESPN College GameDay who also has been an emcee for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, has taken the baton from Brent Musburger as the main voice of the sport. Musburger took the torch from the late, great Keith Jackson.

When Lincoln Riley went to USC, the smart money said that Fowler would call a few Trojan games in 2022, and the Oct. 15 USC-Utah game was on the list. Guess what?

ESPN picked Clemson-Florida State for Oct. 15. Fox gets USC-Utah.

Let’s explain why Fowler might not call a USC game at all this regular season, and definitely not at any point through Nov. 18:

Potential candidates to replace Dwayne Stephens on MSU basketball’s staff

Check out some possible candidates to replace Dwayne Stephens on Tom Izzo’s staff

Tom Izzo’s top assistant, Dwayne Stephens, is leaving the Michigan State program after being hired as the head coach of Western Michigan. Stephens had been by Izzo’s side for the past 19 seasons, but has now decided to make the jump into leading his own program.

Now, Izzo has the opportunity to reinforce his staff with a new hire. The question now becomes, will Izzo bring back a familiar face or will he branch out and bring fresh blood to the program.

We examined some of the possible candidates, both familiar faces and new blood, that could fill the open assistant role on Michigan State’s bench:

How to watch the 2021 Heisman Trophy Ceremony

How to watch the 2021 Heisman Trophy Ceremony!

Tonight one young man’s life will be changed forever. When the Heisman Trophy is presented not only will the individual’s name be etched on the prestigious trophy, but also in the college football history book.

Alabama fans are hoping Bryce Young can be its first quarterback to bring home the hardware. Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry won as running backs. And last season DeVonta Smith took home the trophy as a wide receiver.

Not only would Young make history as the first Alabama quarterback to win, but it would also be the first time Alabama produced back-to-back winners.

Let’s see if Young can make history.

Here is how you can watch the ceremony:

Start Time: 7:00 p.m. CT, Saturday, Dec. 11

Alabama vs. LSU: Game day information, how to watch, stream, listen

How to watch the Alabama Crimson Tide take on the LSU Tigers!

Alabama and LSU has been one of the most anticipated matchups for the last decade. This season’s contest doesn’t carry the same weight as most years because of the impending dismissal of LSU head coach Ed Orgeron.

Nevertheless, the Alabama faithful still remembers what happened in the post-game after LSU defeated the Crimson Tide the last time they entered Bryant-Denny Stadium. I don’t think the Tide players have forgotten either.

This should be fun!

LISTEN: How Jahan Dotson’s direct snap TD vs Ohio State sounded on TV and radio

ever wondered how a certain play sounded on TV & Radio, here is how Jahan Dotson Touchdown vs Ohio State sounded

Penn State put up a valiant effort on the road against Ohio State in Week 9, but ultimately the effort came up short of snapping a losing streak. But the game provided glimpses of a creative offensive approach that was desperately needed to keep up with the Buckeyes and would have been beneficial the week before in the nine-overtime loss to Illinois.

Jahan Dotson taking a direct snap for a touchdown was one of the key moments that showed Penn State was not going to be put away by the Buckeyes. Dotson took a direct snap with Penn State knocking on the doorstep of the end zone. After getting a key block from Tyler Warran, Dotson reached for the end zone for what would end up being a game-tying touchdown in the third quarter.

Here is how Chris Fowler called the play in the heat of the moment on the ABC broadcast…

An here is how the voice of the Nittany Lions, Steve Jones, called the moment on the Penn State radio network…

The play call was a brilliant one by offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. Penn State had become used to running plays in these situations through Tyler Warren, a third-string tight end with quarterback experience in high school, but this was the first time Penn State snapped the ball directly to Dotson and used Warren as a blocker.

The play did need to be given the Big Ten instant replay review treatment to confirm the score, and it did.

Ohio State did answer on the ensuing drive with a big play to start the drive before having to settle for a field goal to regain the lead. Ohio State never really looked back too much, although Penn State hung around and forced the Buckeyes to keep making plays.

Dotson and Penn State look to snap their three-game losing streak this week with another road game at Maryland. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

Chris Fowler says you have to experience a Penn State whiteout in person

Include Chris Fowler among the many excited to see the return of the Penn State whiteout this weekend vs Auburn.

The countdown is on as we approach the Whiteout hour as Penn State takes on Auburn from Beaver Stadium in the marquee game for Week 3. This game marks the return of the Whiteout, which has not been held in Happy Valley since the 2019 season. Everyone is looking forward to seeing the return of the Whiteout, including the man calling all of the action this weekend for ABC, Chris Fowler.

Chris Fowler spoke to the media on Thursday and he was asked about his opinions on the return of the Whiteout. After calling last season’s home game against Ohio State in an empty Beaver Stadium, Fowler is incredibly excited to see a packed house once again all dressed in white on Saturday night.

Fowler, also keen to the history of the whiteout, reflected on

“I love the way that it kind of organically grew from a student only thing and then this the full stadium, as the story goes the fans sort of demanded it and then they made it happen in a really kind of restrained way. They didn’t want to overplay it overdo it, they wanted to keep it special and rare and once per season and reserved for a big game, and I think once you see it in person for the first time that you can really appreciate it.“

Fowler noted how well the visual translates on television, which is one of the reasons the broadcast crew is excited to be in town for the game.

It’s going to be a fun weekend, and it should be college football at its best.
