Justin Thomas tried to chug a beer at a New York Rangers game and it didn’t go well

A for effort, D for execution.

The late, great Toby Keith has a song that goes, “I ain’t as good as I once was, but I’m as good once, as I ever was,” and it’s a thought that many of us in our 30s have when we try and do things that came naturally in our 20s.

I can only imagine a similar thought was going through the head of Justin Thomas on Tuesday night. The two-time major champion is having himself a week in the Big Apple. On Monday Thomas was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and attended a New York Knicks game. On Tuesday he went to a New York Rangers game and was put on the jumbotron.

As one does when holding a beer in front of tens of thousands of fans, Thomas attempted to down his drink in one swig (keyword attempted). The 15-time PGA Tour winner was off to a great start before he ended up wearing the last third of his beer on his shirt.

A for effort, D for execution.

Notre Dame 2024 signee named Naismith Second Team All-American

Another top talent on the way to Notre Dame is honored.

Hannah Hidalgo has set a high bar for future Notre Dame freshmen. That doesn’t mean future first-year players won’t try to top her though. One player who could do it during the 2024-25 season is [autotag]Kate Koval[/autotag].

Koval is a five-star player at Long Island Lutheran in Brookeville, New York who signed with the Irish in December. Now, she’s been named to the Naismith Trophy Girls’ High School All America Second Team.

Hidalgo made the Second Team in 2023, and [autotag]Emma Risch[/autotag] was an honorable mention. [autotag]KK Bransford[/autotag] was a Third Team honoree in 2022 and an honorable mention in 2021. [autotag]Olivia Miles[/autotag] made the Third Team in 2020, and [autotag]Maddy Westbeld[/autotag] and [autotag]Kylee Watson[/autotag] were senior honorable mentions.

It’s evidence that even in the post-[autotag]Muffet McGraw[/autotag] era, Notre Dame continues to attract top talent for women’s basketball, and there’s no reason to think that will stop anytime soon. Even so, a strong postseason showing would do wonders to show just how attractive the program still is.

Notre Dame will face Army in 2024 Shamrock Series at Yankee Stadium

There are historical ties to this game.

This year will mark 100 years since the game that gave birth to the famed Four Horsemen moniker took place. This is cause for celebration, so why not do it during the annual Shamrock Series?

Notre Dame and Army, the teams involved in the Four Horsemen game, will face each other Nov. 23 in New York, the city where the game took place. The Shamrock Series is returning to Yankee Stadium for the third time, and it’s the third time the Irish will face the Knights in the annual off-site home game. These teams also met at Yankee Stadium in the 2010 game.

It would be surprising if the buildup for this game didn’t feature many references to the Four Horsemen. They played a big part in making Notre Dame the legendary program it’s been for much of its history. The least they can do is do those gentlemen homage as part of the hype machine.

Notre Dame commit named to McDonald’s All-American roster

Take a look at the Irish’s future soon.

Notre Dame really seems to have a knack for attracting recruits that ultimately are named to the McDonald’s All-American Game. In fact, six of the 13 players on the Irish’s current roster are former McDonald’s All-Americans. Now, they’ll be able to add another one next season.

[autotag]Kate Koval[/autotag], the fifth-ranked recruit on ESPN’s 2024 HoopGurlz rankings, has been named to the 2024 game, which will be played April 2 in Houston. At 6-foot-4, Koval will be the only center on the East roster. There, she’ll be joined by Long Island Lutheran teammates Kayleigh Heckel, who is heading to USC, and Syla Swords, who will go to Michigan.

Koval signed with the Irish in November as a five-star recruit one year after the program was able to secure three such recruits for 2023. She is the reigning Gatorade New York Girls Basketball Player of the Year after a season in which she averaged a double-double a game as well as 3.4 blocks a game.

Koval will provide size on a team that always could use more. It will be pretty tough to match the freshman season [autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] has had so far, but she should at least give it a shot if for no reason than she could say she tried.

Three bets and one parlay to make in the Eagles-Giants game

The Philadelphia Eagles (11-5) have one last shot to finish the season strong before getting ready for playoffs against the New York Giants (5-11) on Sunday.

The Philadelphia Eagles (11-5) have one last shot to finish the season strong before getting ready for playoffs against the New York Giants (5-11) on Sunday. Both teams have different immediate futures they’ll be looking to in the postseason, but will remain focused on what they see from their players in future games like this one.

The Eagles are (-200) favorites on BetMGM with the Giants being (+250) underdogs at home. Check out more bets and a parlay for this NFC East season finale matchup.

Jalen Hurts Anytime TD

Granted, the Eagles may choose to rest their starters and makeshift somewhat of a “bye week” that the team is going to need heading into the postseason, but if not, I expect a Hurts anytime touchdown at some point in the game. I think they might give him the touchdown opportunity and then put Marcus Mariota in, but I don’t see a world where Hurts wouldn’t get a rushing touchdown to round out the season finale.

Saquon Barkley Anytime TD

I’d say the same for Barkley. Against a divisional opponent, I’d assume Barkley is ready to throw a wrench in the Eagles’ playoff plans. In Week 16, Barkley earned a rushing touchdown and I think he’s capable of delivering again. If the Eagles defense is resting, this bet should almost be a given and you’ll probably find better value parlaying this with other bets.

O 38 Total Points

Regardless of who plays on Sunday, I think both teams are capable of putting up points to round out the season. I think whoever starts with the ball will set the momentum for the rest of the game. It’s an NFC East division on the line, so I think the Giants are either going to be trying to stop the Eagles or not care as much and just focus on good NFL Draft positioning.

Jenn’s Philly-Philly Parlay (+160, BetMGM)

Eagles Moneyline

O 39.5 Total Points

Each Team O 11.5 Points

Jets coach Robert Saleh honors memory of daughter of New York HS football coach

Jets coach Robert Saleh wore a sweatshirt of a Staten Island high school in tribute to the daughter of St. Peter’s coach and AD Mark DeCristoforo, whose daughter perished in a house fire.

New York Jets coach Robert Saleh wore a St. Peter’s Boys High School hoodie when meeting the media on Friday.

The choice was a tribute to 6-year-old Rory, a daughter of the school’s football coach,  Mark DeCristoforo, whose life was lost in a house fire earlier in the week on Staten Island, New York.

Per the Staten Island Advance

About 60 firefighters and 12 units responded to the fire, which was reported at 5:38 p.m. at the family home at 110 Brookside Ave. The blaze was placed under control at 6:26 p.m., according to a spokesman for the FDNY/EMS.

The fire started on the second floor in a bedroom, Division 8 Deputy Chief Gregg Hansson told the Advance/SILive.com.

“Mark and Meg, who have dedicated so much to their community, are now grappling with an immense loss that no family should ever have to endure,” said the GoFundMe message. “Prayers for the entire DeCristoforo family through the days, weeks, and years to come, and always remember Rory.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to assist the family. It can be found here.

This Christmas will be a very special Christmas if these NFC East bets hit. The Philadelphia Eagles (10-4) are back home to welcome the New York Giants (5-9) in an NFC East matchup Monday afternoon. Both teams faced their share of struggles but one of them will try to make things right for a Christmas miracle.

Right now, BetMGM has the Eagles favored at home (-900) against the Giants who are (+600) underdogs. Check out more great bets for this NFC East Christmas game.

J. Hurts Anytime TD

I think we see a big much-needed game from Jalen Hurts. The red zone is still giving me some concerns but where there’s a 3rd-and-1 or 4th-and-1, I know we’re getting a Hurts touchdown. Against the Seahawks, Hurts had two rushing touchdowns. Nothing stops him from delivering this week.

Total O 43 Points

Considering that divisional games can be a toss-up, I don’t doubt that these two teams are going to be going hard against each other. The Eagles and Giants will probably each put up a few touchdowns if the Eagles don’t attempt to come back into the W column.

J. Hurts O 1.5 Passing TDs

Back to Hurts having a good day, I think he connects with the offense this weekend and gets at least two passing touchdowns. We haven’t seen this level of play from Hurts yet, so it’s long overdue. Should the Eagles fall into a rhythm against the Giants, Hurts should manage to get two passing touchdowns on Monday.

Total Points – O 43.5

J. Hurts O 219.5 Passing Yards

A.J. Brown Anytime TD

5 things to know before you hike the Lower Kaaterskill Falls Trail

Hike smarter with these tips.

People have long flocked to the Catskills Mountains in southeastern New York for a dose of nature and fresh air. The area has more than 30 peaks taller than 3,500 feet and is popular for hiking. Kaaterskill Falls Trail is one of the region’s more popular trails. When I visited on a Friday in mid-October, it was peak leaf-peeping season, and the Lower Falls Trail was getting plenty of use. It’s a short hike — 1.6 miles out and back — with a big payoff: up-close views of a gorgeous waterfall. But just because it’s short doesn’t make it easy. Here’s what to know before you hike it yourself.
