Watch: Notre Dame unveils logo, hype video for 2021 Shamrock Series

The Shamrock Series is back for 2021.

Notre Dame’s Sept. 25 contest against Wisconsin at Soldier Field in Chicago technically will be a home game for the Badgers. However, it was announced Wednesday that this matchup will be the latest in the Shamrock Series.

This news came on the same day of the announcement that Soldier Field will allow full capacity for Bears home games in 2021, and it also will be allowed during the Shamrock Series game. With all of this news made public, it only made sense to announce the game’s logo and put out a video to promote the game:

Notre Dame has not lost a Shamrock Series game since it debuted in 2009. This will be the second time the series is played at Soldier Field, the first resulted in a 41-3 blowout of Miami in 2012. The Irish have an all-time record of 10-0-2 at the NFL’s oldest stadium. They first played there shortly after its opening in 1924 and defeated Northwestern, 13-6.

Even though the Wisconsin Badgers were unable to play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in their highly anticipated matchup at Lambeau Field this past season, the rematch was rescheduled earlier this month to 2026.

Although this year’s matchup is not played in the heart of Wisconsin, it should be an outstanding game to watch as it will likely feature former Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan at the helm for the Fighting Irish after he transferred this offseason.

Watch: Braden Lenzy makes video after day at summer internship

See how one Irish receiver is spending his summer.

With school out and training camp far away, Notre Dame football players have to do something in the interim. Some of them are doing things that will help prepare them for life after college and football. One such player is receiver Braden Lenzy, who has landed a summer internship in Chicago and agreed to document his time there. After one recent day of working and learning, he made a video saying he’s about to hit the gym as part of his preparation for the 2021 season:

Just so everyone knows, the latest video clearly was not taken Friday even though it was released then. Friday in the Chicago was cold, cloudy and rainy. That’s far from the 80 degrees Lenzy mentions in the video, though it suggests it was shot when there were much warmer temperatures earlier in the week. But regardless of when it was released, it’s great to see Lenzy on the path to what should be a great professional life.

Watch: Chicago has strong history with Band of the Fighting Irish

Chicago and the Band of the Fighting Irish just go together.

Any university would be lucky to have a great relationship with a renowned band. It would be even luckier to be so tight with the band that the band continues to come back time and time again. That’s Notre Dame with the legendary group Chicago. That’s no accident either as longtime band manager Peter Schvarelli played football for the Irish over 50 years ago.

Particularly over the past decade, numerous YouTube videos have surfaced showing Chicago performing with the Band of the Fighting Irish. Still other times, the band simply has arrived to show its support. So take a music break and look back at some of the performances Chicago and the marching band have offered.

Chicago Bears injury opens door for pair of former Notre Dame linemen

An injury on the Chicago Bears offensive line has opened the door for not one but two former Notre Dame offensive linemen. Details here.

Neither Alex Bars or Sam Mustipher were drafted by an NFL team when their Notre Dame careers ended after the 2018 season, but both wound up inking free agent deals with the Chicago Bears.

Bars wound up getting promoted to the Bears active roster late last season while Mustipher remained on the practice squad.

Due to an unfortunate injury to Bears lineman and former second round pick James Daniels that was sustained this past Thursday, now Bars moves up to replace the void on the offensive line left by Daniels and Mustipher gets promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.

If it seems like an oddity that both wound up signing free agent deals with the Bears remember that at the time, former Notre Dame offensive line coach Harry Hiestand was coaching the Bears offensive line and had the obvious connections to both Bars and Mustipher.

All the best to both in the blue and orange.

Former Steelers CB Artie Burns tears ACL at Bears camp

A former Steelers suffers a season-ending knee injury.

We always keep an eye on former members of the Pittsburgh Steelers once they have moved on. So far in training camp we’ve seen Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave suffer an injury and now there is news that another former Steeler is hurt.

According to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter, former Steelers cornerback Artie Burns tore his ACL at Chicago Bears training camp on Tuesday.

The Steelers had high hopes for Burns when they drafted him in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. It had been nearly two decades since the Steelers had spent a first-round pick on a cornerback.

But Burns was never a good scheme fit and ended up losing his spot in the starting lineup and was a healthy scratch six times last season. The Steelers chose not to re-sign Burns this offseason.

Burns had been working with the starters in Chicago before the injury. During his time with Pittsburgh Burns started 32 of a possible 58 games. Burns also has four career interceptions.

Auburn fans recall their favorite concerts held at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum

Beard-Eaves has seen some major acts come through over the years.
