Next man up mentality helps Georgia silence critics vs. Tennessee

Georgia’s “next man up” mentality silences the doubters. Here’s three Bulldogs who stepped up against Tennessee

The 31-17 win over the Tennessee Volunteers was huge for the Georgia Bulldogs. Three Georgia players, who are going to play a crucial role moving forward, stepped up against Tennessee.

Tight End Oscar Delp

Before the game, Oscar Delp’s season total were nine catches for 119 yards. Delp was huge contributor in the win. He went for four catches 56 yards and two touchdowns. Delp showcased his talent and came up clutch when it mattered most especially after Dillon Bell went out with an injury. His performance was a key factor in securing the victory, proving his value as a reliable playmaker.

Outside Linebacker Chaz Chambliss

Chaz Chambliss has been a key contributor since his freshman year at Georgia and he had his best performance pass rushing performance of his career against Tennessee. Chambliss recorded four tackles, two sacks, and two tackles for losses helped the defense shut out Tennessee’s offense in the second half.

He also checked into the game as a fullback and delivered a crucial block to help running back Nate Frazier get into the endzone for the lead to be extended to 31-17. Chambliss is now tied with Jalon Walker for the team lead in sacks with five and 1/2.

Offensive Tackle Monroe Freeling

The left tackle position was questioned after Earnest Greene’s performance in last week’s loss against the Ole Miss Rebels. Monroe Freeling earned his first career start against a strong Tennessee defensive line led by future first-round pick James Pearce Jr. He excelled in protecting Carson Beck’s blindside, playing a key role in the offensive line’s outstanding performance, which allowed no sacks.

Georgia starting OLB announces 2024 return

Georgia outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss announced his plans to return for the 2024 season during Wednesday’s media session ahead of the Orange Bowl versus Florida State.

Chambliss, a junior, started every game at jack linebacker for the Bulldogs in 2023, totaling 20 tackles and an interception.

The Carrolton, Georgia, native came to Athens as a three-star recruit in the 2021 class. He has played in 39 games as a Bulldog, totaling 47 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, an interception and three pass breakups.

Chambliss’ return is good news for an outside linebacker room that has endured several losses this offseason due to the transfer portal. Chambliss will bring much needed experience, leadership and continuity to Georgia’s front seven next season.

The Bulldogs will take on the Seminoles at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. The game will air on ESPN.

Georgia’s Chaz Chambliss made an incredible interception off a Ball State player’s foot

How in the world did this happen?!?!

If you’re looking for the wildest turnover of the day in college football, Georgia – Ball State has you covered.

On this truly ridiculous play, Ball State quarterback Layne Hatcher threw the football at the absolute wrong angle as it ricocheted off the back of one of tight end Maximus Webster’s feet and into the hands of Bulldogs outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss.

Yeah, we genuinely have no idea how this pinball interception happened, either. We get being in the right place at the right time, but this is just an otherworldly bounce of luck for Chambliss and Georgia.

For Ball State, it’s the highlight you’d rather not see again.

This is just an absurd sequence of events, and it makes you wonder how something like this can even happen in a football game.

Georgia is a really good team, but this was just a genius stroke of luck combined with a bewilderingly unfortunate flub for Ball State.

Watch: Chaz Chambliss makes freak interception

Georgia Bulldogs junior outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss made an interception off a freak deflection

Georgia Bulldogs junior outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss made a freak interception on a deflection off the lower leg of a Ball State receiver. The play is Chambliss’ first career interception.

Georgia intercepted Ball State three times in the second quarter. The Bulldogs scored 31 points in the second quarter against Ball State.

Chambliss is the veteran of Georgia’s outside linebacker room. He is Georgia’s top run-stuffing outside linebacker. Last season, Chambliss played in 12 games. He recorded 2.0 sacks and 16 total tackles.

Here’s a look at Chambliss’ crazy interception and social media’s reaction:

Georgia OLB Chaz Chambliss talks defensive expectations: ‘Anything else is not good enough.’

It’s all business for this Georgia defense…

Georgia’s offense has taken strides over back-to-back national title seasons, but defense has always been a focus in Athens, especially during head coach Kirby Smart’s tenure.

Smart brought a defense he helped develop at Alabama with a Nick Saban to Athens and has tweaked it to reflect the ever-changing offensive systems in college football.

Even with massive roster turnover from season-to-season thanks to the transfer portal and NFL draft, Smart and the Bulldogs continue to reload and suffocate opposing offenses.

Outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss will be an important part of a young outside linebacker corps following the 2022 season. A former four-star recruit in the class of 2021, Chambliss saw the most action of his career last season and played extensively after the injury to edge defender Nolan Smith.

According to Chambliss, the Bulldogs defensive mindset is what sets them apart.

“Nobody runs the ball on us, nobody gets past third downs on us. Nobody gets in our end zone. … Anything else is not good enough.”

Chambliss noted the youth at outside linebacker and mentioned a lesson he learned from NFL draft-bound teammates Smith and Robert Beal Jr.

“Just being there for the young guys like they were there for me. They were there for me and were helping me get through all the times I had as a freshman because that’s a long journey to when you get to playing shape. Right now, it’s just embracing that role and trying to help the young guys.”

What’s valuable for Georgia is Chambliss’ growth as a third-year defender.

“I feel like a whole different player from the beginning to the end. From Oregon to Ohio State to TCU, it feels like a whole different game.”

Chambliss is the most senior member among an outside linebacker room that includes rising sophomores Marvin Jones Jr. and Darris Smith, along with true freshmen Samuel M’Pemba, Gabe Harris, and Damon Wilson Jr.

Georgia vs. TCU: UGA injury report ahead of national championship

Updates on Darnell Washington, Warren McClendon, Chaz Chambliss & more…

Georgia secured a 42-41 win in the playoff semifinal last Saturday, but the Bulldogs didn’t leave Atlanta without injuries.

Starting tight end Darnell Washington missed the second half versus the Buckeyes due to an ankle injury, and outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss went down with a knee injury.

Right tackle Warren McClendon was questionable for the game due to an MCL strain and played one snap.

Here’s an updated Georgia injury report ahead of the national title game versus TCU:

Georgia football player card: LB Chaz Chambliss

Will Georgia Bulldogs freshman linebacker Chaz Chambliss be able to crack Dan Lanning’s linebacker rotation this season?

Chaz Chambliss, Linebacker (No. 32):

Class: Freshman

Height: 6-2

Weight: 250 pounds

Hometown:Carrollton, Georgia

High School:  Carrollton High School

Will Georgia Bulldogs freshman linebacker Chaz Chambliss be able to crack Dan Lanning’s linebacker rotation this season? Chambliss enrolled early at Georgia, so he should have a head start on some of the other freshmen. Additionally, the 6-foot-2, 250-pound linebacker has the size to play immediately.

Chambliss comes to Athens after being rated as a four-star linebacker. The Carrollton star finished rated as the No. 360 recruit in the class of 2021 and the No. 40 linebacker.

During his recruiting process, Chambliss had his mind set on UGA. He never released a list of top schools. However, he did receive dozens of scholarship offers, including elite programs like Alabama, Florida, Clemson, and Ohio State.

The Georgia defense does not have as much depth at outside linebacker following the departures of Azeez Ojulari and Jermaine Johnson. Georgia still has elite talents like Adam Anderson and Nolan Smith, but the Dawgs likely won’t have as large of a rotation as last season.

The four-star linebacker is a part of Georgia’s incoming class of 2021, which featured four highly-ranked linebackers: Xavian Sorey Jr., Smael Mondon, Jamon Dumas-Johnson, and Chaz Chambliss.

Georgia commit Chaz Chambliss recruiting nation’s No. 1 CB to UGA

Georgia football OLB commit Chaz Chambliss recruits the nation’s No.1 CB in the 2021 class to UGA.

Georgia’s 4-star outside linebacker commit Chaz Chambliss has joined the 2021 commits in their recruiting efforts to secure the top players in the nation.

On Sunday, Chambliss, who is ranked as the No. 18 outside linebacker in the 2021 class, Tweeted at the No. 1 cornerback in the 2021 class, Tony Grimes.

Grimes is a 5-star from Virginia Beach, VA, standing at 6-feet and 180 pounds.  He is America’s No. 7 overall player and is the top player in the state of Virginia.  Earlier Sunday, he released his top 4 schools, including Georgia, Ohio State, North Carolina and Texas A&M.

Grimes’ 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions are pretty split right now, experts leaning more heavily towards UNC and UGA.

Georgia currently has 9 hard commits for the 2021 class, giving them the 13th best class in the country as of now, as well as the 4th best class in the SEC.  Landing Grimes would be a huge addition to the Dawgs’ ever-growing list of studs committing to the G.

4-star OLB Chaz Chambliss picks Georgia: Twitter reacts

Georgia football fans react on Twitter to 4-star OLB Chaz Chambliss committing to UGA on Tuesday.

Though it’s still very early in the 2021 recruiting cycle, plenty of Georgia fans were beginning to feel nervous about this year’s recruiting class.

Coming into today, the Dawgs only had seven commitments, sat at No. 20 in the national rankings and had not heard good news on the recruiting trail since April 19, when 4-star defensive end Elijah Jeudy pledged to UGA.

It seemed like rivals Tennessee, Clemson and Florida were getting all the players while Georgia was missing out.

But with the commitment of 4-star outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss on Tuesday morning, Georgia now has eight commits and sits at No. 16 in the 247Sports team rankings. Still work to be done, but the Dawgs are coming.

Chambliss, out of Carrolton High School in Carrolton, Georgia, ranks as the nation’s No. 255 overall player in the 2021 class. Per the 247 composite rankings, he is the No. 18 ranked outride linebacker and 24th player in Georgia.

At 6-3, 220-pounds, Chambliss has recorded 164 tackles, 48 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks, 4 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles over the last seasons at Carrolton.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news on Tuesday:
