Carlos Basham Jr. called ‘steal’ for Bills once again

DE Boogie Basham named steal for Buffalo Bills at 2021 NFL draft.

The NFL Wire has doubled-down on their Boogie Basham praise.

Following the 2021 NFL draft, the Bills selecting Basham in Round 2 was called a “steal” by the outlet and on Friday, he was once again. Draft analyst Luke Easterling labeled a steal for every NFL team at the recent draft and Basham was selected for Buffalo.

The Bills  used their second-round pick at No. 61 on Basham. Prior to the draft, there were some that felt that Basham could go to the Bills… but in Round 1. Instead, he was their second-round pick.

Considering that, not only did Buffalo dip twice into addressing their pass rush, the team potentially did so in terms of grabbing first round talent.

The senior from Wake Forest played in six games in 2020 and notched 4.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. The year prior, he had 18 tackles for loss and 10 sacks in 13 outings.

Falcons mock draft: Atlanta waits to take a QB

For my final mock draft, I throw away any idea of trading up or down and use all nine picks to fill holes the team has.

The NFL draft is just two weeks away and the Atlanta Falcons currently have nine picks, starting at No. 4 overall. For my final mock draft, I throw away any idea of trading up or down and use all nine picks to fill in holes on the roster.

To get started, I stick to my guns and roll with the player that best allows the Falcons to win now.

11 Ideal NFL draft prospects for the Eagles after free agency moves

Tutu Atwell and Greg Newsome are two ideal NFL Draft prospects for the Eagles to consider

We’re 17-days away from the start of the 2021 NFL Draft and as reports surface about the Eagles plans at quarterback, the team has 11 total picks to help improve the roster.

With Nick Sirianni, Shane Steichen, and Jonathan Gannon in place as the head coach, offensive and defensive coordinators, the Eagles have some idea of the identity they want going forward.

We know all the big named NFL draft prospects, but a few under-the-radar prospects would be the ideal fits for the Eagles at all levels of the selection process.

We’ve identified a few ideal prospects.

Giants trade down, pick Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah in Todd McShay mock

In the latest mock draft from ESPN’s Todd McShay, the New York Giants trade down and select LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman has never before traded down in his career, but might that change later this month at the 2021 NFL draft?

Although there have been no indications that Gettleman will finally break that mold, there is a growing consensus that he should. With a run expected on the top quarterbacks over the first 10 picks, it will set the Giants up in prime position come No. 11.

If Gettleman & Co. wish to stock up on some additional assets, the opportunity will likely be there for them. At least it was in the latest mock draft from ESPN’s Todd McShay.

McShay has the Giants trading down (with the New England Patriots) and then selecting Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah at No. 15 overall.

15. New York Giants (via mock trade with NE)

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, ILB, Notre Dame

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Giants look at USC guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, but they just took three linemen in the first five rounds last year, including Andrew Thomas at No. 4 overall. And while the defense was stellar last season, getting defensive coordinator Patrick Graham a versatile, rangy, fast, instinctive linebacker like Owusu-Koramoah will help keep it that way.

As part of this projected trade, the Giants receive New England’s third-round pick (No. 96 overall) and then either a second- and third-rounder in 2022.

Although we don’t get to see who the Giants select with that extra third-round pick, they do nab Wake Forest defensive end Carlos Basham Jr. in Round 2.

42. New York Giants

Carlos Basham Jr., DE, Wake Forest

Maybe the Giants go offensive line here — Texas’ Samuel Cosmi or Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Quinn Meinerz could fit — but their biggest need is on the edge. Basham is powerful and disruptive.

All in all, this is a solid scenario for the Giants. It’s not the best trade back projection we’ve seen over the past week, but it would still be a solid outcome nonetheless.

Colts’ 4-round mock draft without trades

A 4-round mock without trades.

With the majority of the NFL free agency frenzy all but over, attention turns to the 2021 NFL draft for all 32 teams, including the Indianapolis Colts.

While the Colts weren’t big spenders so far this offseason they are still in a good position to add some great young players to an already talented roster.

Here we’ll be doing a four-round mock draft using The Draft Network’s Mock Draft Machine for the Colts first three selections this year. While I think Colts general manager Chris Ballard pulling off at least one trade in this draft is highly likely, we won’t be attempting to predict a trade in this mock.

2021 NFL Draft mock by NFL.com sends Buffalo Bills DE Carlos Basham Jr.

[jwplayer iFBBOvaa]

We’re at the very early stages of the Bills’ 2021 offseason, but some changes along their defensive front has become an early expectation.

After watching the Chiefs run wild at Bills quarterback Josh Allen in the AFC title game, only to have the Bucs turn the tables on them in Super Bowl LV, it became clear the Bills themselves lack in talent along the defensive line by comparison. NFL.com has suggested a potential remedy for this via analyst Bucky Brooks.

In a 2021 NFL Drat mock, Wake Forest pass rusher Carolos Basham Jr.is sent to the Bills at the No. 30 overall pick.

Here’s the selection breakdown:

The Bills’ need for more speed and athleticism on defense could make the ultra-active Basham an intriguing option. The Wake Forest standout is an impressive pass rusher with an explosive first step and violent hands.

The Bills are fresh off their top-overall selection in the most-recent draft in 2020 being in the exact same position group. That player taken was AJ Epenesa, a second rounder. However, doing so in back-to-back drafts does make sense for Buffalo.

The NFL salary cap in 2021 is currently up in the air because of financial difficulties caused by COVID-19 this past year for the league. The cap could be set anywhere between $175-185 million.

The Bills sit right around the $180-185M area and where could they make cuts to free up cap space? Their defensive line. Players such as Jerry Hughes, Quinton Jefferson, Mario Addison and Vernon Butler could all give the Bills several million in additional cap space.

That’s not to say every single guy should be cut as Hughes as recently was named a top-five pass rusher in the entire league in 2020 by Pro Football Focus… but there are decisions that need to be made. If this turns out to be an area where Bills general manager Brandon Beane wants to make cuts, a first-round pick filling the hole left behind could be likely.

And Basham could fit the bill.

According to The Draft Network, Basham, a 6-foot-3, 281-pound prospect, is a pass rusher that is better suited for a 4-3 scheme, such as the one Buffalo plays under head coach Sean McDermott.

Senior Bowl: 10 defensive linemen for the Eagles to watch

Here are 10 defensive linemen for the Eagles to watch at the 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles will face legit salary cap questions heading into the 2021 offseason and if the Birds move on from Brandon Graham or Derek Barnett, the defensive line could become a position of need.

The NFL draft starts in Mobile, and there are some heavyweight pass rushers and defensive linemen in attendance.

Here are 10 that Howie Roseman and company should keep an eye on.

Quick hitters from Brian Kelly’s Monday press conference

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly touched on who to watch for against Wake Forest, Jack Kiser’s play, offensive sets and more.

Every Monday, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly speaks with the media. Like clockwork, it happened again today and here are some of the major points Kelly touched upon as they prepare to travel to Wake Forest on Saturday.

-Kelly singled out a few Demon Deacons, but the one that stood out was defensive lineman Carlos Basham Jr., as the Irish will have to “game plan for him.” Kelly didn’t want to give away much of the game plan for facing Basham Jr., as he noted that “he can be a game wrecker if you let him.” Basham Jr. leads Wake in sacks with two on the season.

-Staying on the defensive side of the ball, Kelly expects the Deacon’s as a unit to give the Irish a test on Saturday. “This is a defense that has a lot of experience, expect them to play well against us.”

-Kelly credited off-season work and preparation as to why players like linebacker Jack Kiser entered the lineup on short notice and played well. “You look at it in terms of what you do in the offseason. You come here with an expectation to play…we make certain that all of our players are prepared.” They sure were ready to play this past Saturday.

-Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa’s play has been spectacular early so far. Kelly went on to say that his “recognition of blocking schemes, that awareness that you get with experience.” Teams try to run screen plays, but he continually sniffs them out. “He’s got a complete game,” said Kelly.

-On true-freshman Jordan Botelho: “He’s coming along quite well. He’s a quick study, knows the game very well. He plays with a bit of reckless adondonment. He’s got to clean up some other things… he’s got to show discipline.” The disciple Kelly is talking about is after Botelho blocked the punt, he could have easily been called for a 15-yard penalty for excessive celebration.

-Two and three tight end sets are here to stay. Currently the Irish offense is “developing our identity” and they’re “deep a the position (tight end). It’s less about game plan and more about who we are. You’ll continue to see two tight end sets and sometimes three tight end sets.”

-On his viral halftime speech (watch it here): “First of all I didn’t know that was going to be public… this had everything to do with us… I wanted to make sure we finished strong, regardless what the score was, I didn’t want to let up.”
