Notre Dame basketball trending for transfer forward

The Irish could be adding another hoops transfer soon

It wasn’t a surprise when [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] basketball hired [autotag]Micah Schrewsberry[/autotag] that he would need to work the transfer portal to field a solid team in the fall.

So far the plan has worked well, with [autotag]Kebba Njie[/autotag] and [autotag]Julian Roper[/autotag] as verbals from the portal. There could very well be another name added with those two, forward Tae Davis.

The Seton Hall transfer is schedule to be on campus today and tomorrow, and Schrewsberry could get a verbal from Davis before he leaves campus. According to this report by 247Sports Tom Loy, he believes that the 6-foot, 9-inch and 200 pound forward will eventually commit to the Irish.

During his freshman year, Davis averaged 2.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in just over 13 minutes played. He would have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Notre Dame basketball commit named Indiana’s Mr. Basketball

Congrats to the future Irish guard

Although Mishawaka, Indiana point guard [autotag]Markus Burton[/autotag] signed with [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] long before [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] was named the new coach, there wasn’t any wavering in his commitment.

Burton had a huge senior season for Penn High School averaging 30.2 points, 4.6 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game. He led PHS to a 28-2 overall record, 11-0 in conference.

That effort was enough for Burton to be recognized as the states best basketball player, today being named Indiana’s Mr. Basketball.

The 5-foot, 10-inch and 170 pound floor general is rated as the 18th best point guard and 147th overall player in the country according to the 247Sports composite. Burton was the only signee for the Irish in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Yale basketball transfer is considering a move to Notre Dame

Who will be Shrewberry’s first addition?

The basketball transfer season really won’t hit it’s stride until next weekend but new [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] has to be looking at who could potentially join the team next year.

One of those transfers could be Yale forward [autotag]EJ Jarvis[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 8-inch and 220 pound wing really came into his own this past season. He shot 55% from the field, 40.6% from beyond the arc and grabbed over 5 rebounds per game.

There is no question that Jarvis will qualify for the transfer academically, the real question is how would his skills translate to a higher level of competition once a move is made.

Three offers out over last few days for Notre Dame basketball

A trio of offers send out by the Irish

It has been a bit quiet on the recruiting front for new [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] but over last two days, that narrative should be changing.

Three offers went out to 2024 players in that time frame, putting an end to the idea that Shrewsberry has not been active.

There are multiple reasons why this could have been the case like having a new coaching staff with resetting their recruiting board most likely at the top of this list. Either way, the “quiet” period for Irish basketball is over.

Let’s take a look a which three players were offered scholarships along with their current recruiting rankings. (All rankings provided by the 247Sports composite.)

Notre Dame sets up in-home visit with Syracuse transfer guard

The Irish are in the mix for former Orangemen sharp shooter

There is a good amount of roster reconstruction that new [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] head coach [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] has in front of him.

Some of that will come via the transfer portal and the Irish are already making waves on that end. Syracuse graduate transfer [autotag]Joseph Girard III[/autotag] entered the portal on March 24th, and now has three scheduled in-home visits with potential landing spots.

Notre Dame is one of those, along with Clemson and BYU who are trying to lure the 6-foot, 1-inch and 190 pound shooter to their team. Girard III shot 38.1% from 3 last year and 40.3% from the field while hitting 85.7% of his free throws. Not only that, he contributed almost 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

Georgia basketball earns huge nonconference win over Notre Dame

Georgia Bulldogs picked up their top nonconference win of the season over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Georgia Bulldogs picked up a big nonconference win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Georgia (8-3) won 77-62 over Notre Dame (7-4).

Georgia defeated Notre Dame for at the Holiday Hoopsgiving game at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Notre Dame is Georgia basketball’s best win of the season.

First-year head coach Mike White and Georgia basketball are looking much more competitive this season. Georgia has a chance to garner NCAA Tournament consideration if it can play well throughout SEC play. The Bulldogs have eight remaining games against ranked opponents, so Georgia will have plenty of opportunities to earn big wins.

Georgia basketball had less turnovers (14) than Notre Dame (15) and got perfect shooting performances from Braelen Bridges and Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe. Bridges scored 18 points to lead Georgia. Moncrieffe added 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Nate Laszewski scored 20 points in Notre Dame’s defeat.

Next up for Georgia basketball is a home game against Chattanooga (8-4) on Dec. 21. Georgia is undefeated at home and has two nonconference games remaining before entering SEC conference play.

Here’s a look at the top photos from Georgia’s win over Notre Dame:

Notre Dame basketball picks up 4-star commitment

It’s a solid three-man class

Over the summer Oklahoma shooting guard [autotag]Parker Friedrichsen[/autotag] had a change of hear. After initially committing to Oklahoma State, the four-star guard re-opened his recruitment. The Cowboy’s loss has not turned in to Notre Dame’s gain, as Friedrichsen announced a commitment to the Irish after going over his options which included Creighton, Davidson, Iowa and Nebraska. He also held offers from Illinois, Memphis, Missouri, Purdue, Oklahoma and others.

This now gives head coach [autotag]Mike Brey[/autotag] three commits for his 2023 class, as Friedrichsen joins [autotag]Brady Dunlap[/autotag] and [autotag]Markus Burton[/autotag] in a class that now ranks just inside the top 15 among the country according to the 247Sports composite team rankings.

Notre Dame offers one of nations best 2023 shooting guards

Hoops recruiting has started to heat up

After making a solid run in the NCAA Tournament this past season and having an NBA Draft first round selection ([autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag]), Notre Dame head coach [autotag]Mike Brey[/autotag] is looking to create some positive recruiting moment.

Just a few days ago, Brey landed the Irish’s first 2023 commitment as in-state point guard [autotag]Markus Burton[/autotag] pulled the trigger. The Notre Dame head coach is looking for a player to join Burton in the backcourt and today an offer went out to Texas shooting guard [autotag]Wesley Yates III[/autotag]. The six-foot-four-inch and 200-pound playmaker already had a impressive offer list which included Auburn, Alabama, Gonzaga, Baylor and others.

Brey hasn’t offered many prospects, under ten, so getting a Notre Dame offer is significant. There are at least six players who will be playing their last season with the Irish so expect a few more offers to be sent out in the near future.

Incoming Notre Dame Basketball freshman could be 1-and-done

Back-to-back first round selections for the Irish?

The Irish saw one of their best players get drafted into the NBA, when [autotag]Blake Wesley[/autotag] went to the San Antonio Spurs with the No. 25 overall selection. Wesley was the first selection from the Irish since Demetrius Jackson was selected in the second round in 2016, ending an obvious drought for the Irish.

If CBS Sports is correct, then it will be back-to-back years with a first-round selection if their prediction on incoming freshman [autotag]JJ Starling[/autotag] is correct. A McDonald’s All-American, Starling is one of best recruits to head to South Bend in years but it looks like his stay could be short.

The projection sees Starling getting selected at No. 20, to the Utah Jazz, explaining “his inside-out game makes him an interesting projection to the NBA as someone who may be able to function as an score-first initiator.”

Although this is just a projection, it’s still a good sign for [autotag]Mike Brey[/autotag] and the Irish. Replacing Wesley will not be an easy task but Starling is good enough to hopefully bridge the gap for more than just one year.

ESPN still views Notre Dame star freshman Wesley as 1st Round selection

What will Wesley do?

It wasn’t the way the Irish envisioned their season ending, but the gauntlet of winning three games in five days isn’t ideal for any team. The way Notre Dame finished their season will be remembered fondly, the wins over Rutgers then Alabama were unforgettable.

For star freshman Blake Wesley, he’s got a massive decision to make, to return to South Bend for his sophomore season or move on the the NBA. For the home-town star, it’s not going to be easy as many outlets, including ESPN believe that Wesley is first round material (insider).

As the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament has concluded, Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz still have Wesley getting selected early, 20th overall, despite struggling against Texas Tech. They viewed his as “the best prospect on the floor” during the game against the Crimson Tide.

The knock against Wesley was that “the game still moves too quickly” for him but that doesn’t mean the NBA front offices aren’t high on him. Schmitz believes that “with a strong pre-draft process, it’s not out of the question that Wesley gets looks throughout the teens, especially if he shoots the ball well.”

At this point in time it is still unknown what Wesley’s intentions are, if he returns the Irish are clearly a much stronger team. If it’s the NBA, then we will root him on as he continues his career away from home.
