Scouting Report: Cal State Fullerton Titans Baseball

The Cal State Fullerton Titans punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament after beating Cal Poly 7-4 in their final series of the regular season. The Titans ended the season with a 31-22 overall record and 20-10 in conference play securing the number two spot behind UC San Diego.  An NCAA transition rule makes UC San Diego ineligible to compete in this postseason giving the automatic bid to Cal State Fullerton.

This marks the first time since 2018 that the Titans will be back in the NCAA tournament where they advanced to the Super Regional. This year they are being led by a quartette of upperclassmen that hit the ball well and play top-notch defense. They led the Big West Conference in doubles with 116, hit .274 as a team, and were one of the top fielding teams with a .976 average. However, like the Aggies, they also had some issues with the mound where the flirted with a 5.00 ERA on the season and are allowing a .281 batting average.

Who to watch:

Caden Conner – .333 batting avg, 70 hits, 19 doubles, OPS -.922

Carter White – .332 batting avg, 42 runs, 9 stolen bases, fielding 1.000

Nate Nankil – .307 batting avg, 69 hits, 18 doubles, fielding 1.000

Program Highlights

Div. I National Championships – 4

Div. I Conference Championships – 31

Div. II Conference Championships – 2

College World Series Appearances – 18

Cal State Fullerton historically have been a really good baseball team with multiple College World Series appearances. Even though they’ve had a rough few years since their last NCAA qualification, this team is good enough to put pressure on Texas A&M early in the tournament.
