Ten Ohio State football players who earned their Buckeye leaves against Maryland

Which Buckeyes stood out to you today? #GoBucks

[autotag]Ohio State football[/autotag] shook off their first half bland play to surge ahead of [autotag]Maryland[/autotag] in the second half, to earn a 37-17 win in front of a home crowd.

While the score looks good, there were still aspects of the game that have left much more to be desired. With that said, there was still plenty of good to come out of this win. That does happen when you still come out victorious, while not playing your best.

We will see more Buckeye decals on Ohio State players helmet’s next week against [autotag]Purdue[/autotag] and here are ten players that earned their’s for their play against Maryland.

Ohio State football vs. Indiana: Five and out halftime review

The Buckeyes have looked…. #GoBucks

The [autotag]Ohio State Buckeye football[/autotag] team are currently struggling with the Indiana Hoosiers in their 2023 season opener to the tune of 10-3 despite the spread being north of four touchdowns.

Heading into halftime, quarterback [autotag]Kyle McCord[/autotag] is the leading passer with 94 passing yards. Running back [autotag]TreVeyon Henderson[/autotag] has looked impressive with 40 rushing yards and tight end [autotag]Cade Stover[/autotag] is surprisingly the leading receiver with 33 receiving yards.

Backup quarterback [autotag]Devin Brown[/autotag] has also seen action at quarterback as the coaching staff is clearly waiting for someone to pop and make an impact.

This Ohio State squad doesn’t look ready to play so let’s dive into five things that were noticed throughout the first half.

Current Ohio State defensive ends and their 247Sports rankings

Current Ohio State defensive ends ranked by the 247Sports composite #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team has seven defensive ends on scholarship and all were relatively high recruits based on their 247Sports recruiting rating. Going through the list of edge rushers on the Buckeye roster will blow your mind at how high they were ranked recruiting-wise, which makes me think two things. One is how bright the future is and the other is wondering why the pass rush was so lackluster last season.

Despite all the negativity surrounding the defense last season as it looked even more inept against Michigan, this defensive line is filled with a ton of talent and that is especially true when looking at the edge rushers. There are obvious names like J.T. Tuimoloau who had flashes of brilliance, as evidenced against Penn State, but just like the defense as a whole, Tuimoloau needs to be more consistent. The next stud in line is Jack Sawyer who has had even fewer flashes but has been moved around from position to position and maybe will play at a different level in 2023.

Here are all of the recruiting rankings of the current Ohio State defensive ends on the roster for 2023.

Top ten Ohio State football recruits in the 2022 class

Top ten recruits in the 2022 class that could make an impact this season, and their scouting reports. #GoBucks

The 2022 college football season is coming up and even though most of the focus is on the returning studs like C.J. Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Paris Johnson Jr. — and rightfully so — it is still always fun diving into the possible future of the program.

Ohio State snagged a consensus top-five recruiting class and added a number of studs, and despite the defense playing less than ideal ball last season, they still snagged a number of playmakers on that side of the ball too. We here at Buckeyes Wire have been working all summer on some of the top recruits in this class and the following are the top five and a link to their scouting report.

Enjoy looking through what is widely considered the top ten commits that are incoming freshmen and the skinny on each for the 2022 season.

Caden Curry is latest Ohio State freshman to shed black stripe

Caden Curry is the latest freshman to lose black stripe. #GoBucks

Caden Curry has impressed coaches at Ohio State and has officially had his black stripe removed as we head toward the annual spring game.

Curry is a native of Ohio’s neighbor to the west, Indiana. He was a highly coveted edge rusher as the No. 13 overall ranked defensive end in the 2022 class. Curry picked Ohio state over the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Indiana, and Oregon.

Listen to what the newest member of the “rushmen” had to say about joining the brotherhood.

“Hey, all spring ya’ll been helping me out. Love and apprecaite the love. Shout out rushmen, they’ve been working my (expletive) off and Go Bucks!”

Only time will tell if Curry will become the next in line of great Ohio State pass rushers, but he certainly seems to be on the right track so far.

Four-star defensive lineman Caden Curry chooses Ohio State

Ohio State landed a target it really wanted on Tuesday… #GoBucks

Ohio State has landed its top defensive line target left out there for 2022.

Caden Curry, a 6-foot, 4-inch, 250-pounder out of Greenwood, Indiana chose the Buckeyes over Alabama, Clemson, Indiana, and Oregon on Tuesday, one day prior to the start of the early signing period. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings Curry is the No. 14 rated defensive lineman, and 88th overall prospect in the recruiting class.

Curry makes the 19th commitment to the 2022 class for OSU as it now heads into the early signing period tomorrow hopeful of getting some more good news to round out what is shaping up to be another top-five or top-ten national class.

The commitment further bolsters a class that is currently a top five one, and the best in the Big Ten according to 247Sports. Now, let all the fun begin Wednesday.

How did some of the higher rated #Buckeyes targets play?

We are still eagerly awaiting the start of the Ohio State football season. In the meantime, we have high school football, and as we know no one lights up the recruiting trail like the Ohio State Buckeyes.

With the first week of high school football in the books in many parts of the country, we thought it would be an interesting exercise to look into how some of the top Ohio State prospects did. The following five prospects are either committed to Ohio State or seriously considering committing and how they performed.

The Athletic thinks Notre Dame’s ‘22 recruiting class ranking will drop

The Athletic is iffy on the Irish’s finish for their 2022 recruiting class

Recruiting for the 2022 class is about to take a turn, with the dead period being lifted after the conclusion of this month, expect a whole lot more action. For Notre Dame, so far it’s been a great start on the recruiting trail, with 13 commits and a top 4 ranking according to the 247Sports composite.

[listicle id=17189]

With the early success of the class, The Athletic’s Ari Wasserman (subscription required) was asked in his mailbag if the Irish could keep their high ranking and finish inside the top 5. Well, Wasserman wasn’t very high on that projection.

Right now, Notre Dame has a top-five class, yes, but some of that is due to the fact that the Irish already have 13 commitments. The way you can see if a particular class is actually built to finish in the top five is by counting how many top-100 players it has. Right now, Notre Dame’s class doesn’t have a single one.

It’s easy to discount the Irish as this moment if you look at it the way Wasserman has, but there are certainly some big fish still out there to be caught. Virginia offensive tackle Zach Rice, a top-10 player, is highly considering the Irish. South Carolina linebacker Jaylen Sneed, California linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka, and instate defensive tackle Caden Curry are just a few names that seen as top-100 players who could end up in the Irish’s class.

Don’t forget about the always underrated prospects that Brian Kelly seems to find or ones that could have big senior years and make a recruiting ranking leap.

In all reality, although it would be nice to see the Irish finish with a top-5 class, it really doesn’t matter. Was does is the development of the classes and the results on the field. Kelly has shown over the last three years, that Notre Dame is among the best schools in the country at racking up wins and making it to the playoff field.

Top Instate 2022 defensive tackle includes Notre Dame in latest update

The Irish move on with top instate defensive tackle

When there is a top talent in your backyard that is getting recruited by some of the best schools in the county, you to keep that recruit home. Last year, Notre Dame accomplished that mission, as they signed Blake Fisher, who by all accounts has been one of the most impressive early enrollees.

[lawrence-related id=27720]

That was the 2021 class, and with the focus on the 2022 cycle, in steps Greenwood defensive tackle Caden Curry. The Irish have already received a commit from instate tackle Joey Tanona, one of the best in the country as well.

[listicle id=17189]

The rising senior cut his list to 12 schools, with the Irish still in contention.

The main competition out of his top-12 seem to be the perennial powers Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State. The most recent four College Football Playoff participants will battle it out for Curry’s commitment.

There will surely be more cut downs of Curry’s lists and it seems like head coach Brian Kelly and defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman would like to keep him home.
