After a hard-fought victory in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament over Nebraska 72-66, the Penn State Nittany Lions will face the Wisconsin Badgers in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday night. The winner of this game will move to day three of the tournament, where they will match up against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Wisconsin will look towards senior forward Micah Potter to provide the spark for the Badgers offense, after tying his season-high in scoring against the Hawkeyes on Sunday. Potter finished with an outstanding performance of 23 points off of the bench against Iowa, and he has been playing his best basketball of the season since he has started to come off the bench. His height will also provide a key mismatch against the Nittany Lions, who are one of the smaller teams in the Big Ten.

Although Penn State and Wisconsin split their regular-season series, the Badgers were able to dominate the Nittany Lions in their last matchup. Nonetheless, it should be another great game to watch as action in the Big Ten Tournament is starting to heat up.

On Saturday afternoon, the No. 14 Wisconsin Badgers will face off against the Penn State Nittany Lions in University Park, Pa. in the first game of their back-to-back series. This game was rescheduled from Jan. 3 because of an outbreak of COVID-19 on the Nittany Lions.

After his best game of the season where he scored 23 points and had 12 rebounds, the Badgers will look towards forward Micah Potter to ignite the Wisconsin offense against an underrated and undersized Penn State team. Potter’s height will give him an advantage on the interior against the Nittany Lions, whose tallest player is only 6-foot-9.

Although the Nittany Lions have not had the best results since their return from play going 2-3, they have played a lot of close games including nearly upsetting No. 13 Ohio State on Wednesday. Penn State could be an unexpectedly difficult opponent for the Badgers, given their steady improvement since returning from a COVID-19 shutdown of team activities.

The Wisconsin Badgers will be playing a greatly improved Penn State Nittany Lions and will need to exploit their size advantage to put away a possible trap game. It should be another exceptional Big Ten matchup to watch.

After an underwhelming performance that ended in a loss against the No. 13 Ohio State Buckeyes, the No. 14 Wisconsin Badgers will look to recover in an away rematch against the Maryland Terrapins on Wednesday night.

In an otherwise poor overall game against the Buckeyes, Wisconsin forward Aleem Ford’s hot stretch from the 3-point line helped the Badgers to stay in the game. He finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block.

Ford’s consistent shooting will be needed against Maryland, who was able to score outscore the Badgers by 10 points in the second half of their previous matchup. The Terrapins went on to win the game 70-64. Although Maryland has not been at the top of the Big Ten this season, they have been a trap game for highly-ranked teams across the conference with wins against No. 19 Illinois, No. 21 Minnesota, and of course No. 14 Wisconsin.

Even though the Terrapins got the better of the Badgers in their first matchup early in the season, Wisconsin will be looking to respond in a big way after their loss to the Buckeyes. This game should be yet another great Big Ten matchup to watch this season.

Despite no longer being the leading scorer, Potter has been a rock for this Wisconsin defense throughout the season and leads the team with 7.3 rebounds a game.

A matchup to watch will be between Penn State guard Izaiah Brockington and Wisconsin’s D’Mitrik Trice. Both have been the leading scorers for their teams this season, and it will be important for Trice to continue his excellent play coming off of the big win against the Golden Gophers to avoid an upset like what happened against Maryland.

The Golden Gophers are led by the fifth-ranked scorer in the Big Ten, junior guard Marcus Carr. He is averaging 24 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds a game.

Minnesota will be a tough test for Wisconsin, and a win for the Badgers will help to push them back to the top of the Big Ten.

He talked about meeting former Michigan star wide receiver and current ESPN college football analyst Desmond Howard the night before the game, and the words that motivated what is known to many Wisconsin fans as ‘The Return.’ Gilreath mentions that Howard told him to show everyone his personality and that inspired him to show the world that he was the type of person to show up in big games.

It is really interesting to hear a player’s perspective on such an important play and game in the history of Wisconsin Football.
