OSU’s Brian Hartline says he could beat Mike Hart in fight, Hart claps back

Get him! #GoBlue

Well, this is awkward.

Former Michigan left tackle Taylor Lewan and former Nebraska linebacker Will Compton took their “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast on the road to Ohio State where they sat down with newly-minted offensive coordinator and continuing wide receivers coach Brian Hartline.

As usual, the duo wandered off topic, noting there’s another coach Hart in the Big Ten, Michigan running backs coach Mike Hart. After Hartline acknowledged that simple fact, the duo asked Hartline if he could beat Hart in a fight, to which he replied, yes, he could take any offensive coordinator-type in a fight.

Watch the clip below.

But Hart, the all-time leading rusher for the Wolverines before he became a coach with his alma mater in 2021, wasn’t taking that lying down.

While Hart didn’t tag Hartline or anything like that, he did have something of a response on Twitter.

Perfect. And scathing.

Hartline does have bragging rights as a player vs. Hart, winning head-to-head every year he was a Buckeye wide receiver, whereas Hart lost every contest as a student-athlete. Hartline as a coach is 3-2 vs. Michigan, but is 2-2 as an on-field coach. Hart is 2-0 as a coach at Michigan vs. Ohio State.

Brian Hartline and Jim Knowles provide Ohio State spring football updates

A little of what both coordinators said after spring practice on Tuesday for Ohio State. #GoBucks

The sixth of fifteen spring practices for the Ohio State football team is now complete as we work towards the annual LiFEsports Spring Game on April 15.

Throughout some of the practices and observations, some of the coaches and players have been made available to answer questions from the local media in Columbus. After the latest practice, assistant coaches Brian Hartline and Jim Knowles were on hand to provide some updates and field some inquiries from reporters.

Ohio State has been a little more tight-lipped this time around during the spring, so it’s always nice to hear directly from some of the coaches when we get the chance after observing a little bit of the action on the field in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

Here’s some of what offensive coordinator, Brian Hartline, and defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles, had to say after spring practice on Tuesday.

FIRST … Offensive Coordinator Brian Hartline

Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline likes receiver depth

WRU? You bet #GoBucks

After last year’s rash of injuries, [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] will try and create depth throughout the whole roster. One position where you wouldn’t expect much of that is wide receiver, but new offensive coordinator, [autotag]Brian Hartline,[/autotag] wants to have multiple players ready to go.

When [autotag]Jaxon Smith-Njigba[/autotag] went down in the season opener and wasn’t able to get right, he eventually sat out the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury. This wasn’t the only time a recent Buckeye star has gotten hurt and then missed their final season — see Nick Bosa.

The receiver group has plenty of firepower, but they’re all upperclassmen. [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]Emeka Egbuka[/autotag], and [autotag]Julian Fleming[/autotag] could all leave, and reloading the position is something Hartline wants to do this year.

When asked about the receiver depth, he mentioned that the group is six or seven deep. Hear from Hartline below.

We know the first three-plus [autotag]Xavier Johnson[/autotag], but the remaining three to four are unknown. There is some hype around [autotag]Jayden Ballard[/autotag] and early enrolling freshman [autotag]Carnell Tate[/autotag] has already lost his black stripe in record-breaking time.

At this moment it’s just a guess as to who will make their mark on one of the deepest position groups in the country, but you feel pretty good about there being plenty of options.

Ohio State offers 2024 California wide receiver

Could he be the next addition to WRU? #GoBucks

When it comes to [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] and wide receiver recruiting, it’s the best of the best. Just ask the NFL about the product that offensive coordinator [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag] is producing.

As for recruits, if you play at the position and hold a Buckeye offer, it means you are one of the best in the country. California wide receiver, [autotag]Xavier Jordan,[/autotag] can now be added to that list because he received an offer from Ohio State after a conversation with head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag].

The 6-foot, 1-inch, and 165-pound pass catcher is rated as the No. 19 receiver and 110th overall prospect by the 247Sports composite rankings.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on where this recruitment goes and if there are any further developments.

ESPN suggests a certain job could entice Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline to leave

Hartline has already impressed many #GoBucks

Although [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] offensive coordinator [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag] has not yet coached a game at the position, some are already wondering what his next move might be.

There were rumors [autotag]Cincinnati[/autotag] was interested in him replacing another former Buckeye, [autotag]Luke Fickell[/autotag], who left for Wisconsin. But Hartline took to Twitter and let everyone know he wasn’t going anywhere, but for how long?

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg named Hartline as one of his coordinators to watch (subscription required) this season, and it wasn’t all about how he will perform for the Buckeyes.

Hartline, 36, will generate head-coach interest in the next few cycles but likely will be very selective about leaving Ohio State,” wrote Rittenbert. “He also ultimately might have interest in the NFL, where he played from 2009 to 2015.”

As much as we want Hartline to stay in Columbus for his entire career, it most likely will not end up being the case. We know he loves being here, and so does his family, but there is going to be a point where Hartline might want another challenge.

Head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] leaving would open a path, but Day seems very comfortable in his position. Hopefully, Hartline stays for the foreseeable future, but we all have to know that in the back of our minds, he could end up moving on.

ESPN questions if Ohio State can rise back to the top of the Big Ten in 2023

Can Ohio State regain its hold on the conference in 2023? #GoBucks

It’s been two years since [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] won the [autotag]Big Ten[/autotag], their rival winning both The Game and then the conference crown. Even though the Buckeyes made the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag], for many, the season was still a disappointment.

Beating TTUN and winning the Big Ten are boxes that weren’t checked off for [autotag]C.J. Stroud[/autotag] and his teammates. As he awaits to know where his next playing destination is, more on that here, ESPN’s Heather Dinich is pondering if Ohio State can reassert itself as the conference’s best (insider)

The biggest question according to Dinich is the combination of play-calling and starting quarterback. With the elevation of [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag] to offensive coordinator and head coach [autotag]Ryan Day[/autotag] seemingly giving up play-calling, those are “the team’s biggest unknowns this offseason.”

It would be hard to question Dinich’s logic, as those are two big glaring issues that Ohio State must solve to regain the seat atop the conference. Another concern, for many including myself, is the defense. She sees this is as a problem as well, saying “the Buckeyes must also eliminate giving up big plays,” on that side of the ball.

Dinich hit this right on the head, these are the biggest questions surrounding the program at the moment. They can solve some of the offensive problems during the spring but we won’t know if the defense will be fixed until a few games into the season.

If Ohio State can clean up these two aspects of the team, they could very well be back to winning the Big Ten.

WATCH: Brian Hartline smashes Michigan guitar before last Saturday’s ‘Faceoff on the Lake’

In case you missed it, you have to think this was part play and part taking aggressions out from last fall. #GoBucks

Some rivalries stand the test of time and transcend the sport that brought out the bad blood in the first place. If there’s any rivalry that is an example of that, it’s the one between Ohio State and Michigan.

We all know what “The Game” means for fans on both sides and for national pop culture, but anytime the colors scarlet and gray and maize and blue are mixed up in a competitive environment, you can be sure that there will be some type of combustion. So it was last Saturday in an outdoor hockey game at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland between the Buckeyes and Wolverines named the “Faceoff on the Lake.”

OSU got the better of TTUN by a score of 4-2 to pull into a tie for second place in the league, but what Ohio State Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach Brian Hartline did before the puck was dropped was epic as a stage-setter.

Cleveland is known for a few things like winter weather, Drew Carey, and of course rock music (being the site of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame of course).

As the environment would have it, Rock and Roll and the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry met in a scene all Buckeye fans can get into, because Hartline took a Michigan-themed electric guitar and smashed it up before the teams did any smashing of each other on the ice.

In case you didn’t catch some of Hartline’s best work, you can see him grind the ax below.

Hartline knows what this rivalry is all about, and you can be sure he jumped at the chance to get this party started last weekend. Let’s hope his offense tears up the Michigan defense as well come November 25.

Ohio State advances in top group for 2024 Georgia athlete

This isn’t the last cut, but the Buckeyes advance #GoBucks

Anytime a top high school wide receiver gets an [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] offer, you know they can play the position. Offensive coordinator [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag]’s track record is enough for those players to understand there’s a pipeline from Columbus to the NFL.

The Buckeyes can’t take all of the receivers, so when one is also an athlete who can play a different position, it makes that recruit even more tantalizing. Receiver skills in the secondary is a good quality, and that’s what Georgia’s [autotag]Demello Jones[/autotag] offers.

At 6 feet, 1 inch and 176 pounds, Jones played wide receiver, quarterback and cornerback for his Swainsboro High School team this past fall. It’s impressive. The good news for Ohio State is it has made it past another cut in Jones’ recruiting list, making his top 10.

There is still a ways to go in Jones recruitment, but getting to this point is a good sign. He is ranked as the No. 23 athlete and 194th overall prospect according to the 247Sports composite.

Updated list of OC candidates the Eagles could target with Shane Steichen heading to the Colts

Here is an updated look at 10 offensive coordinator candidates the Philadelphia Eagles could target with Shane Steichen likely to accept the Colts’ head coaching job

Nick Sirianni now appears just days away from officially having his own coaching tree and with the expectation that Shane Steichen (Colts) and Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals) will land jobs, we’re taking an early look at potential replacements.

Sirianni rightfully gets a lot of credit for the Eagles’ success.

Philadelphia’s second-year head coach has far exceeded expectations and proven that he was the perfect target for the role. However, it’s important to remember that Steichen had a massive role in the offense.

Sirianni described this last summer how involved Steichen is with everything the Eagles have done offensively. He started calling plays late in the 2021 season, playing a pivotal role in the Birds’ offense taking off. It’s a change that carried over into 2022 with Philly boasting one of the top offenses all season.

Interest in Steichen will go beyond his work in Philadelphia. He served as the Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator in 2020, working alongside Justin Herbert in a record-setting rookie season.

Combine his work with Herbert and Jalen Hurts, and that’s a future NFL head coach.

Here’s an updated list of potential candidates with Steichen set to take his talents to the AFC.

Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline says three Buckeye receivers in the first round of ‘24 NFL Draft

That’s a high expectation #GoBucks

There is something to be said about what [autotag]Ohio State[/autotag] offensive coordinator [autotag]Brian Hartline[/autotag] has done with his wide receiver group. Two of his “graduates” just came off 1,000-yard seasons in their rookie NFL seasons, the Saints’ [autotag]Chris Olave[/autotag] and Jets wide receiver [autotag]Garrett Wilson[/autotag].

Another, [autotag]Jaxon Smith-Njigba[/autotag], is expected to be selected in the first round of this coming NFL draft, following the footsteps of the two above. We know that [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag] is most likely to do the same in the following draft but Hartline thinks there will be two more.

The recently elevated leader of the Buckeye offense replied to a Twitter thread that he believes three more will join Olave, Wilson, and soon-to-be selected JSN as first-round picks.

We obviously expect Harrison Jr. to go and the other clear choice is [autotag]Emeka Egbuka[/autotag] as mentioned in the thread, but who would be the third? Could it be [autotag]Julian Fleming[/autotag]? Maybe [autotag]Xavier Johnson[/autotag]?

It’s hard to know who Hartline was inferring, but his track record speaks for itself. If he believes that three will get selected, I don’t think many are going to doubt Hartline’s statement.
