Patriots 2022 season awards: MVP, most improved and rookie of the year

Here are the 2022 regular season awards for the Patriots.

A disappointing end to the New England Patriots’ season has everyone in the building ready to turn the page to 2023.

They failed to make the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, while watching their two division rivals, the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, play in their stead.

Although the season didn’t go as expected due to offensive struggles and inconsistency with player performances, there were some true bright spots for the Patriots that offer at least some hope for the foreseeable future.

Here are the regular season award winners for New England in 2022.

Here are all of the Patriots players that received 2022 All-Pro votes

Seven Patriots players received All-Pro votes.

There is more than one New England Patriots player capable of making the argument that they were snubbed in the All-Pro voting, and considering only one player on the roster actually received the honor, it would be hard to argue with them.

No, the Patriots weren’t the class of the AFC this season. They weren’t even the class of the AFC East.

But they did have multiple players worthy of being recognized as an All-Pro player. Yet, the only one to receive the honor was rookie defensive back Marcus Jones.

Make no mistake, the Patriots should be celebrating Jones making the immediate impact that he did for the team and earning this prestigious honor right out of the gates. But there’s also room in between all of the streamers and confetti to acknowledge everyone else as well.

Here are all of the Patriots players that received All-Pro votes in 2022. Keep in mind, the first place votes in parenthesis are worth three points, while the second place votes are worth one each in the tallying process.

Patriots captain Matthew Slater has high praise for this rookie

This is high praise coming from special teams legend Matthew Slater.

New England Patriots special teams ace Matthew Slater had high praise for a rookie who has been making an impact on the unit.

Slater is a 10-time Pro Bowl selection. So he has been around the league long enough to know a good special teams player, and rookie Brenden Schooler falls into that category.

Schooler, an undrafted rookie out of Texas, is a classic Bill Belichick find that has made a noticeable impact in the time he’s spent with the organization.

He has 10 solo special teams tackles, which is tied for the NFL lead. He also has multiple fumble recoveries and has recovered a blocked punt. The California native has been able to do it all for New England, and that effort has caught the attention of Slater, who commented on if he believes Schooler is playing at a Pro Bowl level.

“I certainly do, yeah,” Slater said, via NESN’s Dakota Randall. “I think he’s playing as well as anyone in our league right now. It’s been fun to watch him grow and develop. I would say he’s getting better every week, but he was pretty good from the beginning.

“So, he’s done a great job. I think this team is really fortunate to have him. And, hopefully, he’s here for a long, long time.”

Schooler could be an important piece for the Patriots on special teams, with Slater in particular getting older. One thing is for certain: He has made the most of his time in New England, and by the looks of it, he’s just getting started.

Brenden Schooler has great reaction to viral sideline moment with Bill Belichick

Brenden Schooler is taking his viral sideline moment in stride.

New England Patriots’ special teams ace Brenden Schooler wanted to give his recovered football fumble to Bill Belichick, but the Patriots head coach denied the gesture. Schooler laughed about the moment that went viral after the game.

His big play was part of a day that saw the Patriots win by a 38-15 margin. It was quite the moment for the undrafted rookie, as New England played well on both sides of the football. Belichick also tied George Halas for second place on the NFL’s all-time coaching wins list. It was a day of celebration all around.

However, Belichick was not having any of it. Schooler laughed about his failed fumble celebration after the game, as transcribed by Dakota Randall of NESN.com.

“I was just trying to … it was obviously a big game for him coming back to Cleveland,” a laughing Schooler told NESN.com in the Patriots locker room. “So, just a nice gesture: ‘Here’s the game ball.’ But I think I was a little too excited and should’ve waited until after.”

Schooler and the Patriots will take on the Chicago Bears next Monday night, as they look to continue to build momentum.

Bill Belichick explains snubbing Brenden Schooler’s fumble celebration

Bill Belichick comments on why he snubbed Brenden Schooler’s fumble celebration

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is obviously a man who leads by example, as evident in him snubbing special-teamer Brenden Schooler’s fumble celebration in Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Schooler, who came up with a muffed punt late in the fourth quarter, attempted to give the ball to Belichick on the sidelines, but the coach denied him right where he stood. When appearing on The Greg Hill Show, Belichick explained why he wouldn’t accept Schooler’s gifted game ball.

“It’s always exciting for guys to make plays and exciting for all of us,” said Belichick, while laughing. “We’re happy when we make them. But yeah, just gotta move on. Go to the next play.”

The sports world hasn’t seen a denial that harsh since the MLB fan got slapped for attempting a ring pop marriage proposal at a Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox game.

For Belichick, it’s on to the next play like it’s on to the next game at the next city. Even with victory in hand, his poker face remains infallible.

Bill Belichick snubbing Brenden Schooler’s game ball gift is priceless

Bill Belichick hilariously denies a game ball from Brenden Schooler on the sidelines.

New England Patriots rookie special teams gunner Brenden Schooler made a big play on special teams to thwart the Cleveland Browns’ comeback in the fourth quarter. He wanted to celebrate the play by giving coach Bill Belichick a game ball, but Belichick was not having it.

Schooler was there to catch a fumbled Browns punt return late in the fourth quarter. The fumble allowed for the Patriots to be in scoring position once again, and it was a key play from the undrafted rookie out of Texas. It allowed for New England to seal the deal and pick up a second consecutive win and the team’s third overall on the season.

However, Belichick was not about to celebrate the momentous turnover. The coach and player had a hilarious interaction on the sideline after the play.

Next up, the Patriots will take on the Chicago Bears in a Monday night showdown, as they look to continue their climb in the AFC East.

Where each Longhorn signed as an undrafted free agent

Five Texas prospects found new homes as undrafted free agents shortly after the draft concluded.

For the first time since 2014, no Texas Longhorns were selected in the NFL draft.

Kicker Cameron Dicker and defensive back Josh Thompson were the only Texas draft hopefuls that received an invite to the NFL combine this year, and many projected them to be selected in the seventh round.

The low amount of draft prospects this year is largely due in part to the lack of player development and constant coordinator changes under former head coach Tom Herman.

However, numerous NFL stars have had successful professional careers after not hearing their name called in the draft.

Shortly after the 2022 NFL draft concluded, the duo of Dicker and Thompson along with three other former Longhorns quickly found homes as undrafted free agents.

Here is where each Longhorn ended up thus far.

Chiefs 2022 7-round mock draft v2.0: Post-Tyreek Hill trade edition

Our @goldmctNFL reveals his 7-round 2022 mock draft 2.0 for the #Chiefs and the first since the Tyreek Hill trade:

There are less than 30 days to go until the first round of the 2022 NFL draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs have loaded up on draft picks due to the Tyreek Hill trade, but they’ve also created an even greater need at the wide receiver position. This mock draft looks quite a bit different from our 1.0, not just because of the new draft picks, but also given our recent look at the 90-man offseason roster. There are plenty of needs to consider, both for the upcoming season, but also for the future in Kansas City.

In order to gauge player availability for the mock draft, I ran multiple simulations using the various mock draft machines to create a composite. If players weren’t available with regularity, they were eliminated from contention at a specific pick. Typically, I’d have 8-10 players on my big board to choose from at a given pick, though in Round 7 the pool is significantly larger.

Without further delay, here’s a look at our mock draft version 2.0:
