What is Wisconsin’s most likely path to the Big Ten Championship game?

What is Wisconsin’s most-likely path to the Big Ten Championship game?

The 2021 Wisconsin Badgers are facing an uphill battle to return to the Big Ten Championship game for the third time in five years.

The team sits at 1-2 in Big Ten play after Saturday’s win at Illinois, two back in the loss column of undefeated and No. 2-ranked Iowa.

The Badgers and Hawkeyes are set for a showdown on October 30 at Camp Randall. If Wisconsin wins that game, the team would sit only one game behind Iowa with a month of the season still to go. A loss on October 30 would essentially end the Badgers’ shot at a trip to Indy.

But if the Badgers win, what else would need to happen for them to win the Big Ten West? Here are two outcomes, with the most likely up at the top:

  1. Wisconsin wins out (finishes 9-3, 7-2 Big Ten), Iowa loses on the road at Nebraska on November 26
  2. Wisconsin wins out, Iowa loses to either Purdue or Minnesota

Every other scenario is frankly way too unlikely to list (each includes the Hawkeyes falling to Illinois or Northwestern).

The two scenarios listed are also a significant longshot with what we’ve seen from Wisconsin against good teams. But who cares, it’s worth the speculation.

Compiling an all-Big Ten team to defeat the Ohio State Buckeyes

The age-old question: who is ever going to defeat Ohio State and change their run of consecutive conference titles. The Wisconsin Badgers

The age-old question: who is ever going to defeat Ohio State and change their run of consecutive conference titles.

The Wisconsin Badgers had two good shots at it recently, losing by six in 2017 and leading the Buckeyes by three scores in 2019. But Ryan Day’s program is on a tear, and the odds say 2021 won’t be the year they give up the crown.

So I’m here to pose and answer a critical question: Is there an all-Big Ten team that could take the field with Ohio State and finish on top?

Here is what my squad would look like (taking position groups, not individual players, from each school’s roster):

WATCH what Illinois head coach Brad Underwood said about Ohio State after the Big Ten Tournament Championship game

Ohio State came up just short of beating Illinois for the Big Ten Championship Sunday. Watch what Brad Underwood said about the Buckeyes.

Ohio State and Illinois staged an epic Big Ten Tournament Championship game on Sunday. The game went back and forth and eventually went into overtime before the Illini were able to make just a couple more plays than the Buckeyes down the stretch. As a result, OSU came up just short.

But Illinois coach Brad Underwood was impressed by what Ohio State did and how it played. He met with the media after the game and provided his thoughts on how his team played, but also went out of his way to compliment the Buckeye squad that took his team to the brink.

In case you missed anything from what he said, we’ve got his full press conference thanks to the folks at the Illini Report. Click on the below YouTube link and watch Underwood compliment Ohio State’s ability to shoot and score, the talent of Duane Washington, and more.

Way-too-early power rankings for the 2021 Big Ten football season

With the 2020 Big Ten football season now over with Ohio State on top, we are ranking the conference’s teams heading into 2021.

The 2020 Big Ten schedule has finally reached its end after what has been an absolute roller coaster ride of a season.

The season was originally postponed back in August, it was then reinstated, numerous games were canceled due to COVID-19 and if that wasn’t enough, the Big Ten Championship wasn’t even the last conference game played.

Hopefully, for the sake of everybody involved, the 2021 calendar year is a bit different and things return to normal by the time the Big Ten starts up again in early September.

One of the necessities of closing a football season is giving a way-too-early look at the year to come, and rank teams based on what we saw this season and we know going into next year.

In order to do this, I put together a ranking system jokingly named Ken(ney)Pom—with reference to the college basketball ranking site KenPom. My metric weighs each team’s returning/incoming production, quarterback play, coaching and 2020 success in order to compare the teams numerically and understand why they are slotted in the spot they’re in.

Necessary disclaimer: the teams are ranked below based on who has discussed returning for another season and they are subject to change as more players enter the NFL Draft, return to play an extra year and as transfers find their homes.

So this is not a sure-fire shot at who will win the conference next season, because so much will change between now and September. It is instead a look at where things stand right now–the week after the conclusion of the 2020 season.

Trey Sermon runs wild as Ohio State beats Northwestern for Big Ten title

Ohio State won the Big Ten again, and running back Trey Sermon turned in a performance for the record books

Ohio State has won the Big Ten again, and running back Trey Sermon led the way with a performance for the record books.

Sermon rushed for 331 yards, a Big Ten title game and Ohio State single-game record, scoring a pair of touchdowns as the Buckeyes overcame some early struggles to put away the Wildcats in the fourth quarter.

A transfer from Oklahoma, Sermon has overcome multiple injuries throughout his career, but proved Saturday that he has the talent to be a difference-maker when he gets the ball.

Ohio State defeats Northwestern 22-10 to win Big Ten Football Championship

Ohio State has officially won the Big Ten Championship and should have earned a spot in the College Football Playoff.

[jwplayer 1F4h9bQO-PROpJzTY]

For the fourth straight season, the Ohio State Buckeyes are your Big Ten Football Champions.

There was a lot of uncertainty throughout the season as Ohio State had multiple games canceled due to COVID-19, but a decision by the Big Ten to change their own rules and let OSU play in the Big Ten Championship culminated in yet another title win for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State beat Northwestern 22-10 to take home the hardware, a result that shouldn’t be too surprising considering the fact that MSU was able to beat Northwestern but got utterly dominated by Ohio State.

[vertical-gallery id=33292]

The Buckeyes should represent the Big Ten in the College Football Playoff. While you may not like it, it’s still good for the conference that they will be there with a good shot to win a national championship.

Ohio State running back Trey Sermon delivered against Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship game on Saturday.

The Buckeyes’ back went off for a school-record 331 rushing yards in the 22-10 victory over the Wildcats.

Sermon had 29 carries, averaging 11.4 yards per carry and a pair of TDs.

He broke the school mark set by Eddie George of 314 in 1995.

Sermon had 385 yards in 2019 and 344 entering the Big Ten Champion in 2020’s shortened season.

Ohio State-Northwestern: How and where to watch and listen to the Big Ten Championship game Saturday

Find all the information you need to watch and listen to the 2020 Big Ten Championship Game between Ohio State and Northwestern.

We’ve finally reached championship Saturday after what seems like an incredibly long (yet short) season. Ohio State is going into the Big Ten Championship game as a heavy favorite and the odds have increased since the beginning of the week.

Rumors have been floating around that the Bucks may be dealing with some COVID related illnesses. We won’t know for sure until just before kickoff when Ohio State will release its player availability report. Word on the street is that one of the players missing could be Chris Olave, but that is pure speculation at this point.

That would be a huge blow to the Buckeye offense, but if there is one place the Ohio State team has depth, it is at the wide receiver position. Of course, should OSU win the Big Ten Championship game, any players who have tested positive for COVID-19 would be at risk of missing the national semi-final because of rules set forth by the conference to sit out 21 days.

Before we get too far ahead though, let’s focus on the task at hand. Win the Big Ten and the Bucks are in! Here is how to find the game.
