Predicting how each Big 12 team will do in Week 5

The weekly Big 12 predictions are back!

The Big 12 is entering its gauntlet of conference games that include every single school playing one another, something no other conference can say they do.

The conference is as up for grabs as it has ever been, and schools such as Texas, Baylor, and Oklahoma State are all trying to make a push for the conference title to dethrone Oklahoma, who has been reigning over the conference for the the past six years.

For the first time all season, every school within the Big 12 is playing against a fellow conference member this week, and there are multiple matchups that not only will impact the national landscape, but also the top of the conference standings.

Baylor and Oklahoma State are the lone ranked matchup in Week 5, and schools like Texas and TCU are vying for a spot in the AP Top 25.

I started making these predictions ahead of Week 2, and currently hold a record of 17-7 on the year. Without further ado, here is how I believe Week 5 will shake out.

The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel believes Texas will win the Big 12 this year

“The only team whose offense really scares you right now? Texas.”

After two dominant performances by Texas, many are beginning to believe that Steve Sarkisian’s team could win the Big 12 this year. Continue reading “The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel believes Texas will win the Big 12 this year”

Predicting the outcome of each Big 12 football game in Week 4

A few outcomes could throw a wrench in the Big 12 standings this week.

As a whole, the Big 12 may have had their best showing of the season last week with Kansas being the lone school to suffer a loss.

This marks the second time of the season that the conference only suffered one loss, and it also marks the last, as Big 12 play is about to be in full swing with everyone playing a conference opponent other than TCU and Kansas.

As it currently sits, the Big 12 has three ranked teams in No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 14 Iowa State, and No. 25 Kansas state with Texas and TCU on the outside looking in.

Being the lone conference in the Power Five that plays one another, every game from here on out matters in terms of who will be able to contend for the Big 12 championship. Due to the struggles we have seen early on from Oklahoma and Iowa State, the conference title is seemingly up for grabs this season.

Kansas was defeated by Baylor pretty handily in Week 3. It’s now time to predict how Week 4 will play out in the Big 12. I correctly predicted five out of the eight games last week, as Oklahoma State and Kansas State were both able to hold off MWC opponents whilst West Virginia was able to pull off the huge upset of No. 15 Virginia Tech.

Here is my weekly prediction of how each Big 12 team will do in Week 4.

Big 12 predictions for week 3 of the 2021 season

Get set for week three of the college football season with predictions for all eight contests featuring Big 12 teams.

The Big 12 had a good record last week, going 8-2. However, it lost its two most important matchups. The Texas Longhorns lost to the Arkansas Razorbacks by 19 points, and the Iowa Hawkeyes pummeled Brock Purdy and the Iowa State Cyclones.

TCU had the most impressive win. A tight 34-32 win over the California Golden Bears and Oklahoma State had to rally to beat a Tulsa team that always gives them fits.

This week, there are several intriguing nonconference games on the slate and the first Big 12 matchup of the season between Kansas and Baylor. With that, let’s take a look at this week’s Big 12 predictions.

Last Week: 9-1*

*Last week was the first week of Big 12 predictions, but I’ll keep a running tally over the course of the season.

Predicting the outcomes of each Big 12 game in Week 3

The Big 12 has a tough slate of games in Week 3, and it is looking unlikely that all of them will prevail.

The Big 12 did not have as hot of a Week 2 as they did to open the season. In Week 1, only one of the ten programs suffered a loss.

Week 2 gave multiple teams in the conference a challenge, which led to three programs suffering their first loss of the season.

Of the teams to lose their first game, Texas likely had the worst of the bunch. They went into Fayetteville to take on an unranked Arkansas team as the No. 15 team in the nation, and proceeded to have the ball ran all over them for over 300 yards, leading to a 19-point loss.

The game led to head coach Steve Sarkisian making a change at quarterback, and exposed what could be a potential weakness for teams to attack on defense. Texas’ offensive line had a poor performance to say the least.

The Longhorns weren’t the only ranked team to lose, as No. 9 Iowa State continued to look like one of the more overhyped teams in the nation in their loss to No. 10 Iowa. Quarterback Brock Purdy has had a terrible first two weeks, and was even outshined by his backup in the loss to Iowa.

Turnover issues plagued the Cyclones, as Purdy threw three interceptions, and running back Breece Hall fumbled at their own goal line. It was a tough game for Iowa State, a team that beat Northern Iowa by just six points the week prior.

Kansas lost as well, but it was actually one of the most impressive losses they have had. Although they would eventually not make enough plays to beat No. 17 Coastal Carolina, the Jayhawks were going score for score with them in the first half. It really looked like they had an upset in them, but unfortunately were just outmatched.

I correctly predicted nine out of 10 outcomes correctly last week, with Texas losing to Arkansas being the lone miss. Let’s see how each Big 12 team, except for TCU who has bye, will do in Week 3.

Big 12 Football: Week 2 predictions for each team

How will the Big 12 fare in week two?

The Big 12 as a whole had a solid start to the 2021 college football season, with only one team losing in Week 1.

Believe it or not, Kansas was not the culprit responsible for the conference’s lone loss as they not only picked up their first win in two years, but they stormed the field in exciting fashion.

The lone loss was to an unranked Maryland team, and no it was not Texas. West Virginia, otherwise known as the “Certified Loser Boys” according to Maryland’s Twitter, lost by just six points in a very back and forth game that saw the Mountaineers leading at halftime.

Only four schools in the Big 12 did not have games decided by single digits. Texas blew out No. 23 Louisiana by 20 points, Kansas State chopped down the tree against Stanford beating them by 17, Texas Tech defeated Houston by 17 points, and TCU throttled a school that majority of America does not know how to pronounce anyway, when they beat Duquesne by 42.

The rest of the conference were in some nail-biters, but we will just have to give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was first game jitters, not the fact their Heisman candidates underperformed horrendously.

A few teams are hoping to redeem themselves and have a much better showing in Week 2. I’ll do my best to predict how each Big 12 matchup could end this week.
