Big 12 Power Rankings after Week 6: Oklahoma hits rock bottom

Unfamiliar territory for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Week 6 was another eventful one in the Big 12 Conference. Eight teams were in action with Baylor and West Virginia on a bye.

Undefeated TCU traveled to take on undefeated Kansas in a game that certainly lived up to the hype. TCU was able to outlast the Jayhawks 38-31 in a back-and-forth affair.

Texas ran Oklahoma out of the Cotton Bowl in one of the most lopsided games in series history. Quinn Ewers threw for four touchdowns in his return from injury. Star running back Bijan Robinson added 130 yards and two scores on the ground.

Oklahoma State’s Spencer Sanders continues his monster start to the season. He lead the Cowboys to a 41-31 victory over Texas Tech in a classic Big 12 shootout. Texas Tech redshirt freshman quarterback Behren Morton had a great showing for the Red Raiders.

A defensive slugfest took place in Ames as Kansas State escaped Iowa State with a 10-9 win. Adrian Martinez came with a couple of clutch plays with his legs late in the game to secure the Wildcats’ win.

Here is a look at our updated Big 12 power rankings entering the halfway point of the season.

Big 12 quarterback power rankings after week 5

The Big 12 has seen some really good quarterback play in the 2022 season, but who stands atop this week’s QB power rankings?

When the transfer portal took Caleb Williams, Spencer Rattler, Gerry Bohanon and Casey Thompson out of the Big 12, an opportunity arose for new quarterbacks to assert themselves as the best in the league.

The transfer portal also brought in several new starters: Dillon Gabriel at Oklahoma, Adrian Martinez at Kansas State, and J.T. Daniels at West Virginia.

Opening weekend featured just two players returning as the starting quarterback for their squad; Spencer Sanders and Jalon Daniels. Hudson Card, Max Duggan and Donovan Smith started games for their teams last year but weren’t the Week 1 starter. Injuries provided opportunities, and they’ve taken advantage, coming up with big-time performances at times through the first five weeks of the season.

With more than a month of action in the books, it’s time to update the quarterback power rankings in the Big 12.

Oklahoma State beats Baylor, Kansas remains undefeated: Big 12 Power Rankings after Week 5

Oklahoma State and Kansas continued their winning ways, and TCU gets a bump after their win over Oklahoma in this week’s power rankings.

The Big 12 conference has three undefeated teams remaining after week five. Oklahoma State knocked off 2021’s Big 12 champion Baylor. Kansas survived a last-second rally from Iowa State, and TCU dominated the Oklahoma Sooners to remain among the ranks of unbeaten teams.

Big 12 play in the early going has provided some fantastic games and storylines. The resurgent Kansas Jayhawks have earned the right to host College Gameday next Saturday when they host the TCU Horned Frogs.

Kansas State followed up their performance against Oklahoma with another strong outing, this time against Texas Tech, and the Longhorns rebounded from their loss in Lubbock with an 18-point win over West Virginia.

After week five’s action, let’s update the Big 12 power rankings, shall we?

Texas Tech dropped a tough road matchup with No. 13 NC State, while Kansas State was shocked at home by Tulane.

No. 6 Oklahoma went on the road to absolutely dismantle Nebraska 49-14. Scott Frost deserves to be fired again after that pitiful performance from the Cornhuskers.

Kansas officially has the league on notice after another stellar offensive performance. The Jayhawks are 3-0 on the season with two impressive wins over West Virginia and Houston. Lance Leipold has Kansas rolling early on.

No. 22 Texas took care of business without Quinn Ewers against a solid UTSA team. Running backs Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson combined for over 300 total yards in the 41-20 win.

No. 8 Oklahoma State continues to impress offensively. They beat down on Arkansas Pine-Bluff 63-7 on Saturday. Spencer Sanders is looking fantastic through three games this season.

Baylor dropped an overtime thriller on the road to future Big 12 foe BYU. A devastating blow to the Bears’ College Football Playoff hopes.

Kansas upset West Virginia on the road in the first Big 12 matchup of the 2022 season. Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels threw for three touchdowns in the win.

Texas Tech survived a late Houston comeback to escape with an impressive overtime victory. A crucial fourth down and 20 conversion helped push Tech into position to come out on top.

Big 12 power rankings after Week 1: Baylor stays on top

Here is a look at our updated Big 12 power rankings following the Week 1 action.

The 2022 college football season is officially in full force. Week 1 slate of games gave us our first look at teams across the country.

The Big 12 Conference is off to a good start to the new year. The league went 9-1 on opening weekend. The one loss being West Virginia against No. 17 Pitt.

While most of the Big 12 teams faced weaker nonconference competition to begin the new season, we still saw some impressive performances.

Baylor looks to have not skipped a beat on either side of the ball. The Bears took down Albany in a dominant 69-10 win.

Oklahoma State’s offense showed up in a major way against Central Michigan. Quarterback Spencer Sanders accounted for 460 yards and six touchdowns but the Pokes’ defense struggled late in the game.

The new coaches at Oklahoma, Texas Tech and TCU all enjoyed comfortable wins at their new gigs.

Quinn Ewers shook off a shakey start to put together a nice outing in his Texas debut. The Longhorns scored in all three phases of the game en route to a big 52-10 victory.

Big 12 basketball power rankings heading into conference play

Where does each Big 12 team rank ahead of conference play?

The Big 12 is arguably the best conference in college basketball top to bottom.

The conference has five teams ranked inside the AP Poll’s Top 25 rankings with two others barely missing the cut.

The Big 12 and the Pac-12 are the only two conferences with three top-10 teams. No. 1 Baylor looks fantastic again after winning their first national title a year ago. No. 6 Kansas reloaded well in the offseason and No. 8 Iowa State has been one of the bigger surprises of the season.

No. 17 Texas and No. 25 Texas Tech round out the rest of the Big 12 schools in the top 25. Texas Tech took down No. 14 Tennessee in overtime earlier in the season to jump into the rankings and has not lost since.

Oklahoma and West Virginia are on the outside looking in but have looked very good at times this season.

With conference play starting up this week, here is a look at our updated Big 12 basketball power rankings:

Horns Down in Big 12 Power Rankings after week 7 action

How do the Big 12 teams stack up in this week’s power rankings after the week 7 action?

The top of the Big 12 conference is going to be fascinating to watch the rest of the season. As it stands there are four teams in contention for a spot in the Big 12 championship game.

Those four teams, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, and Iowa State, have one or fewer losses in Big 12 play thus far.

The season is just halfway over and there’s a lot still to figure out, but those four teams appear to be at the head of the pack. However, like last year when Oklahoma stormed back from two early-season Big 12 losses, there are only a couple of teams that could legitimately be counted out with a handful of games remaining.

Oklahoma’s in great shape to stay undefeated through Big 12 play, but games with Baylor, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State loom large at the end of their schedule. Even if Oklahoma were to navigate their tough end of the season schedule unscathed, they’ll likely be faced with having to play one of those other three teams for the second time in the Big 12 championship game.

With five games left on the Oklahoma Sooners’ schedule, let’s see how the teams stack up in this week’s Big 12 Power Rankings.
