Final Big 12 football head coach power rankings

How do the Big 12 coaches finish in Pat’s final conference power rankings of 2022?

The 2022 college football season is done for everyone except Georgia and Texas Christian. They will meet in Los Angeles on Monday, Jan. 9, to find out who is the best team in 2022.

TCU could become the first Big 12 team to win the title since the Texas Longhorns accomplished this feat in 2005. It is a tall task, asking a team to beat the Bulldogs who have lost just once in their last 29 games.

Back to the task at hand, I am laying out my final power rankings for each head coach in the Big 12. These rankings are only based on what transpired during the season and factoring in where they were slated to finish in the Big 12 preseason poll.

We kick it off at the top with a first-year head coach who is looking to make history in the Lone Star state.

Oklahoma Sooners drop in USA TODAY Sports re-rank after loss to Texas Tech

Where did the Oklahoma Sooners land in USA TODAY Sports latest 1-131 re-rank after their loss to Texas Tech? From @john9williams

The Big 12 has provided a lot of entertaining football this season. The depth of the league has been really good. Even teams at the bottom of the standings, Iowa State and West Virginia, have provided competitive games this season.

In West Virginia’s case, they beat Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma for their only wins in Big 12 play. Iowa State had the best defense in the Big 12, though it didn’t look like it on Saturday in Fort Worth.

In the final year of the 10-team league, the Big 12 showed it has an entertaining product to offer. Next week’s Big 12 title game between TCU and Kansas State should be an entertaining affair between two teams playing really good football right now.

With the regular season behind us, let’s take a look at where the Big 12 landed in USA TODAY Sports latest 1-131 re-rank after week 13.

Final Big 12 Power Rankings of the regular season

The final week of the regular season served as a statement for a few teams.

We have reached the end of one of the more wild and most exciting Big 12 regular seasons in recent memory. The quality of depth from top to bottom treated fans with great football all year long.

The final week of the regular season served as a statement for a few teams.

TCU wrapped up its undefeated season with a blowout victory over Iowa State. The Frogs are the first Big 12 team to finish the regular season unscathed since Texas in 2009.

Kansas State is set for a rematch vs. TCU in the big 12 title game after taking down their rival Jayhawks on Saturday. The Wildcats are playing well down the stretch.

A big second-half effort from Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson pushed Texas over Baylor on Friday. The Longhorns took down the Bears 38-27 to finish the season at 8-4.

Overtime victories are becoming a common occurrence as Texas Tech broke the hearts of the Oklahoma Sooners on a game-winning field goal. The win caps off an impressive year one for Joey McGuire and a disappointing campaign for Brent Venables.

West Virginia traveled to Stillwater to spoil Senior Day for Oklahoma State. The Mountaineers leaned on the running game to come away with the win.

Oklahoma on the rise in updated Big 12 power rankings after big Bedlam win

After their strong performance in Bedlam, the Sooners climbed a few spots in this week’s Big 12 power rankings. From @john9williams

Make no mistake about it, the Oklahoma Sooners dominated a pretty good Oklahoma State team. The Cowboys may have been reeling of late, but they had their starting quarterback, and he seemed well enough for the Pokes to have him drop back to pass 80 times and throw 67 passes.

There shouldn’t be any excuse for the Cowboys regarding the health of their quarterback. He played well, but not well enough, throwing for 381 yards, but also throwing four interceptions.

Oklahoma State has wins over Baylor, Texas Tech, and Texas on the year. They’re on the verge of winning eight games for the fourth-straight season and in 13 of the last 15 years.

Oklahoma hasn’t played well all year, but that was as good of a performance as we’ve seen, especially from the defensive side of the ball. They pressured Sanders on 40% of his drop backs and could have doubled the four interceptions as they forced Sanders to make some poor decisions.

While the offense wasn’t able to do anything in the second half, Oklahoma’s defense provided a glimpse of what’s to come from a Brent Venables defense. After an up and down season, they have a chance to finish 2022 on a high note.

Ranking the most likely Big 12 championship scenarios

Texas can solidify Big 12 championship contention on Saturday.

The Texas Longhorns (5-2) travel to Stillwater to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys (5-1) this weekend. The game has significant implications for the Big 12 title race.

In most seasons, the title game features teams with two losses or less. Although chaos could result in a three-loss title game participant this year, no two-loss team is a lock for a spot in the championship game.

Since both teams have already dropped a game in conference play, Saturday’s bout could be the deciding factor in who plays in the final game. The two biggest competitors for a title bid face each other on the same day.

Kansas State (5-1) travels to Fort Worth to face the undefeated TCU Horned Frogs (6-0). Neither team has dropped a conference game this season.

Let’s look at the most likely championship scenarios.
