Barry Sanders wants in on the Lions epic first half in Green Bay

Hall of Famer Barry Sanders wants in on the Lions epic first half in Green Bay

The first half of Thursday night’s game in Green Bay was so lopsided in favor of Detroit that a Lions legend wanted back in to get a piece of the action.

Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders saw the easy success Lions RBs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs were having on the ground and posted on social media that he wished he was still playing. Getting 121 rushing yards in the first half in Green Bay is a statement, and the man with a statue in front of Ford Field really appreciated it.

Sanders is now 55 and retired 25 years ago, but the legend isn’t wrong–the Lions offensive line is dominating the Packers.

The Detroit Lions honored the greatest running back of the Super Bowl era this weekend. In advance of the team’s Week 2 home opener against the Seattle Seahawks, the team unveiled a statue in at Ford Field of franchise icon Barry Sanders.

The NFL’s all-time leading rusher is forever immortalized in front of the home of the Lions with a statue capturing Sanders making one of his trademark ankle-breaking moves.

Check out the statue at the corner of Brush and Montcalm when you’re downtown. Until then, here are some photos from the Barry Sanders statue unveiling.

Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco names himself as a top-5 rusher all-time

#Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco didn’t lack confidence in his recent comments on the All Things Covered Podcast.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco wasn’t hesitant to name himself as one of the top-five running backs of all time during a recent podcast appearance.

Pacheco, who rose to prominence as Kansas City’s leading rusher during the Chiefs’ march to Super Bowl LVII earlier this year, was asked to name his five favorite running backs during his time on the All Things Covered podcast and started his list with the same names many fans would expect.

“I [haven’t] watched football that much,” Pacheco explained, “but I know that I’ve watched highlights. Barry Sanders was on my highlights, A.P. [Adrian Peterson] was on my highlights, LaDainian Tomlinson, and then I’m going to get a little bit into this era, Saquon Barkley. Then… myself.”

With this kind of talk before his sophomore campaign in Kansas City has even begun, Pacheco will have a lot to prove if he intends to make fans and his peers agree with his rankings at season’s end.

The best player ever for all 32 NFL teams

Who’s the GOAT for every team?

Some NFL players are so much more than the basic sum of their parts.

They are not mere cogs in The Machine, doing their job, punching in and out while carrying a lunch pail. They are the genuine difference-makers, the tone-setters, the memorable faces of the franchise, and the people who inherently make the uniforms they wear iconic by default.

No matter how long an NFL team has actually been around, they’ve had at least one great player. It’d be impossible not to. Everyone has had that one superstar who was a bright magnet of charisma and someone who never shied away from the spotlight — either from the opposing team or fans. Everyone has had that player who made folks fall in love with their team.

The following list takes a look at the finest player in franchise history for all 32 NFL teams. It takes into account individual accomplishments, peer comparisons, influence on their team and city, and how well their skills translated to the tests of time. If you’re even a casual pro football observer, you will undoubtedly guess some of the more obvious selections, while others had more of a back-and-forth.

Let’s break it down.

Madden NFL cover: Which position has appeared the most?

Here is a look at the breakdown of Madden NFL cover athletes by position.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is getting the recognition he deserves as the next cover athlete for the “Madden NFL 24” video game.

The 2023 version marks a return to using NFL players after Electronic Arts went with the Hall of Fame coach, broadcaster, and game namesake John Madden to grace the game’s cover last year, the first game since his Dec. 2021 passing.

Madden was on the cover for the first 10 console game covers from 1990-99. Players trickled into the background and finally took over in 2000 with Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George for the “Madden NFL 2001” cover.

Here is a look at the breakdown of Madden cover athletes by position. To simplify, the list will include athletes who are in the foreground (sorry, Cary Brabham and Gordon Laro) and on a console.

Report: Cowboys highly interested in Texas RB Bijan Robinson

The Dallas Cowboys are giving significant consideration to Bijan Robinson.

Texas running back Bijan Robinson might stay in the same state after all. On Monday we learned that the Dallas Cowboys would welcome the big-time prospect should he fall to them or a couple picks before.

Dallas Cowboys writer Patrik Walker reported that the team would consider drafting him should they get the opportunity.

“If Bijan Robinson falls to near the Cowboys, he becomes a major consideration for Dallas, (per Stephen Jones),” Walker wrote. “Question then becomes how far is close enough to get on the phone?”

That’s the question many are asking about the rare talent. Some consider him reminiscent of Detroit Lions and Oklahoma State great Barry Sanders. In recent days we learned that Sanders views the great player in high esteem.

Walker shared his thoughts on when Robinson would be drafted, stating, “19th-overall is when you get on the horn and try to go get him … he’s likely gone no later than 15, but probably top 10.”

Bijan has demonstrated his value. We’ll continue to follow which NFL teams are looking to bring him in heading up to the draft.

Barry Sanders commends Texas RB Bijan Robinson ahead of NFL Draft

Barry Sanders wants to see Bijan Robinson as a Detriot Lion.

Running back Bijan Robinson enjoyed a storied college career as a Texas Longhorn. Robinson set numerous records, won a plethora of awards and compiled a long list of highlight plays during his three seasons.

The Longhorn superstar is expected to go in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.

When asked about who he modeled his game after during an interview on Good Morning Football, Robinson stated he looks up to Detriot Lions legend Barry Sanders.

Sanders took notice of Robinson’s comments and left him some words of encouragement via Twitter.

“I shouldn’t say where I would love to see him go,” Sanders said, with a winky face emoji. “He is a very talented prospect, and I am always honored when a someone has found inspiration in what I did.  Good luck @Bijan5Robinson, and maybe we will see you in #Detroit.”

It is safe to say Sanders would love to see Robinson in Dertiot blue and gray next season. The Lions hold the No. 6 and No. 18 overall picks in the NFL Draft.

Upcoming ‘The Perfect 10’ documentary features 3 Raiders greats to go from Heisman to Hall

Only 10 people have ever won a Heisman and gone onto the Hall of Fame. And 3 of them are Raiders greats. Set your DVRs Raider Nation.

“This is an amazing feat, man. Only ten guys have been able to accomplish this. More men have walked the moon than to have been able to accomplish what we’ve accomplished,” said Tim Brown in front of six other NFL legends to open the upcoming FOX documentary ‘The Perfect 10’.

Those seven legends all have something special in common. They’re being called ‘The Perfect 10’ because they make up the ten men in the world have hoisted both the Heisman Trophy and have a bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

‘The Perfect 10’ will premiere on FOX this Saturday, February 11 at 5 pm Pacific (8pm ET). And if you’re a Raiders fan, you will want to set your DVR.

No team is more well represented in this exclusive club than the Raiders.

Of the seven NFL legends in that room, three are Raiders greats.

The first to join the club was Marcus Allen. Then it was Tim Brown in 2015. And Charles Woodson completed the ten in 2021.

“To have this individual type of accomplishment and to have it be so few who have done it is really mind boggling, you know,” Woodson told Raiders Wire. “I was thinking earlier about the amount of kids who played little league football, high school football, college football, the few that make it to the NFL, and then to just carve that down to just ten guys that have done something like that with the history of the game, that is really quite amazing and hard to put it into words.”

Woodson said as a kid he had imagined himself winning the Heisman Trophy and winning championships (something he also did) but the Hall of Fame was not something he grew up imagining. And even the Heisman seemed out of reach once he switched to defense at Michigan.

“When I got to college and chose to play defense, that dream was pretty much…that was a wrap. Because defensive players don’t win that award,” Woodson said of his Heisman hopes. “So, for me to get to my junior year and to have the success we had as a team, to make the plays at the right time that I made as an individual player, when those things start to happen, that’s when it’s like ‘oh man’ and that dream that was kind of a fleeting thought in my mind was back. . . Then to be invited to the ceremony and ultimately have my name called, holy cow, that was an incredible moment.”

The four other NFL legends on hand for ‘The Perfect 10’ include Earl Campbell, Tony Dorsett, Barry Sanders, and Roger Staubach. The three not present are OJ Simpson, and Doak Walker (deceased), and Paul Hornung (deceased).

WATCH: Bijan Robinson channels Barry Sanders on this run

Former NFL scout compares Bijan Robinson to Barry Sanders.

Bijan Robinson is not just any running back. He has the ability to become an all-time NFL great.

Former NFL scout Bryan Broaddus was reminded of another elite back watching Robinson play. He had the following to say about Bijan earlier this month.

He’s one of the best players in the country regardless of position. I had visions of Barry Sanders watching him play.

Broaddus’ comparison is high praise, but fits what we have seen from the special runner. Robinson’s innate ability to find openings that are not apparent to the average back has impressed since his freshman season.

The play below encapsulates what Broaddus likely sees from the Texas running back. Baylor defensive tackle Siaki Ika makes an incredible maneuver to get into the backfield. Bijan nullifies the move by countering with impressive footwork of his own.

In general, it’s true that most any starting caliber running back is as good as another in the NFL. But, as indicated by the above run, Bijan Robinson is on a tier of his own.
