Oklahoma drops out of AP Top 25 for first time since end of 2022

OU drops out of AP Top 25 for first time since 2022.

The Oklahoma Sooners slid out of the top 25 in the US LBM Coaches poll following their loss to their Red River rivals. After taking a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter, the Texas Longhorns dominated the rest of the game after a huge second quarter where the Sooners turned the ball over twice and failed to stop the Longhorns running game.

The Sooners also dropped out of the AP Top 25 on Sunday.

Oklahoma’s absence makes it the first time they have been outside the AP poll since the end of the 2022 season.

Texas put a stranglehold on their No. 1 ranking, earning 56 of 62 first-place votes, the most since they were the unanimous No. 1 in 2008. Now, they turn their focus from OU to a massive home matchup against the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.

Oregon sits at number two after Dillon Gabriel helped lead the Ducks to a major win over the Ohio State Buckeyes. Penn State is third, while Ohio State slots in at number four. Georgia, Miami, and Alabama all remain untouched at five, six, and seven.

LSU’s upset of Ole Miss at home moved them to No. 8. Oklahoma’s former Big 12 foe, Iowa State, is No. 9 in the nation after dispatching West Virginia on the road. Clemson rounds out the top 10.

Oklahoma will likely have to put together a few wins in a row before they are considered for another spot in the top 25. As things currently stand, especially on the offensive side of the ball, the Sooners are not a top-25 team.

Longhorns stay No. 1 in latest AP Top 25

The Texas Longhorns are once again No. 1 in the latest AP Top 25. This is the second week in a row UT has been No. 1 and the fourth week overall.

Texas is also No. 1 in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll.

After losing to Oregon, the Ohio State Buckeyes dropped to No. 4 while the Ducks take over the No. 2 spot. Fresh off a come-from-behind win at Southern Cal, Penn State moves up to No. 3.

The Georgia Bulldogs, Texas’ next opponent, remained at No. 5 in the AP Poll. After losing to LSU in OT, Ole Miss dropped nine spots to No. 18. The Tennessee Volunteers fell three spots, despite holding on to beat Florida.

Where is Penn State ranked in the AP Top 25 after win over USC and Ohio State’s loss?

Where is Penn State ranked after an overtime road win at USC and Ohio State’s first loss?

It was an eventful weekend of Big Ten football on the West Coast this weekend with Penn State and Minnesota each winning road games and Oregon defending its home field against Ohio State in one of the most anticipated games of the year. And with Penn State and Oregon remaining undefeated and Ohio State suffering its first loss of the year, the order of the Big Ten’s top teams was reset in this week’s AP Top 25 poll.

After moving up to no. 3 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll, Penn State also took over the no. 3 spot in the AP poll, moving up one spot from its ranking a week ago. Penn State is one spot behind no. 2 Oregon, who also moved up one spot after its win over Ohio State. Ohio State fell two spots from no. 2 down to no. 4 to ensure the Big Ten still has three of the top four teams in the media poll. Texas remains no. 1 with 56 first-place votes in this week’s AP poll. Penn State’s lead over Ohio State in the AP poll is just 23 points.

The rest of the top 10 in this week’s AP poll after the trio of Big Ten teams included no. 5 Georgia, no. 6 Miami, no. 7 Alabama, no. 8 LSU, no. 9 Iowa State, and no. 10 Clemson. Despite winning its game against rival Florida in overtime, Tennessee fell out of the top-10 by dropping three spots down to no. 11.

Other Big Ten teams joining Penn State, Oregon, and Ohio State in this week’s AP top 25 are Indiana (no. 16), Illinois (no. 22) and Michigan (no. 24). Michigan is surrounded by service academies Army (no. 23) and Navy (no. 25) in this week’s AP poll. Nebraska is second among the others receiving votes in this week’s AP poll. Iowa and USC also received votes in the AP poll.

Despite blowout win, Notre Dame falls in AP Top 25 poll

What do the Irish have to do to get back in the top 10? Probably beat a stronger opponent than Stanford.

Notre Dame has to be wondering what it can do to catch a break — or if it’s being unfairly punished for a bad day at home against Northern Illinois last month.

Or maybe poll voters just don’t respect the quality of the Fighting Irish’s opponents.

Of course, the Irish could just be collateral damage from other games.

Whatever the cause, despite beating the Stanford Cardinal 49-7 at home in South Bend, Notre Dame slips one spot in the AP Top 25 poll to No. 12.

Despite falling to Oregon by just a point in a nail-biting thriller, Ohio State falls only two spots to No. 4. The Ducks, meanwhile, move up a spot to No. 2.

Penn State moves to No. 3 despite nearly being upset by USC.

Texas stays at No. 1 and Georgia remains No. 5. Alabama doesn’t move even after being nearly upset for the second time this season — the Crimson Tide are still No. 7.

Other big movers include Tennessee — the Volunteers fall three spots to No. 11 despite beating Florida. LSU jumps five spots to No. 8 after beating Ole Miss — and Ole Miss drops nine places to No. 18.

Army and Navy are both in the Top 25, with Army at No. 23 and Navy at No. 25. Illinois is at No. 22 and the Michigan Wolverines are No. 24.

Colorado gains votes in AP Poll following bye week

Despite not playing over the weekend, Colorado gained votes in the AP Poll

Despite not playing a single snap this past weekend, the Colorado Buffaloes gained two votes in the Week 7 AP Top 25 college football poll.

Head coach Deion Sanders and the Buffs earned three votes in the latest poll, a slight increase from the one vote they received after upsetting UCF in Week 6. Colorado stands 4-1 (2-0 Big 12) heading into a massive Week 7 home game against the Kansas State Wildcats.

According to College Poll Tracker, Randy Johnson of the Minnesota Star Tribune ranked Colorado No. 23 on his ballot, making him responsible for those three votes. The Minnesota Golden Gophers beat writer was also behind the Buffs’ lone Week 6 vote.

In the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, Colorado picked up 16 votes.

If the Buffs can deliver a convincing win over No. 18 Kansas State on Saturday, they should feel good about cracking next week’s top 25 in both polls.

Kentucky receives a single vote in the AP Top 25 after bye week

Kentucky football receives on vote in the new AP Top 25 college football poll.

Kentucky football was able to take week six off with a bye after upsetting Ole Miss. They received 12 votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll this week, and came in 31st overall. Meanwhile, in the new AP Top 25, the Wildcats received just a single vote, after getting six previously.

The AP Poll also dropped the Wildcats in terms of where they’re ranked. They’re 39th this week after being number 35 after their win last week.

Like the Coaches Poll, the AP Poll has ten teams from the SEC ranked inside the top 25. They’re led by the Texas Longhorns, who claimed the top spot. The Alabama Crimson Tide and Tennessee Volunteers both took falls after losses in week six.

Kentucky plays Vanderbilt next week. The Commodores just knocked off Alabama, and come in ranked higher than the Wildcats. So, if Kentucky can get the win, they should rise up the rankings in next week’s poll.

Wisconsin not included, six Big Ten teams in latest AP Top 25 Poll

Wisconsin not included, six Big Ten teams in latest AP Top 25 Poll

The Wisconsin Badgers (3-2) remained unranked in the latest AP Poll after their 52-6 victory over Purdue at home on Saturday.

The Badgers snapped a two-game losing streak, winning their 18th consecutive matchup against the Boilermakers. Wisconsin was also left out of the latest US LBM Coaches Poll after the win as well.

Week 6 of the college football season was full of upsets and the AP Poll reflects that. Most notably, No. 1 Alabama fell to Vanderbilt 40-35 and No. 4 Tennessee lost to Arkansas 19-14.

The new top five is Texas at No. 1, Ohio State at No. 2, Oregon at No. 3, Penn State at No. 4 and Georgia at No. 5.

The Big Ten teams in the AP Poll top 25 include Ohio State at No. 2, Oregon at No. 3, Penn State at No. 4, Indiana at No. 18, Illinois at No. 23 and Michigan at No. 24.

The Badgers will look to make it back-to-back wins when they travel to face Rutgers on the road next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. CT.

Notre Dame jumps three spots in AP Top 25 poll without even playing

Notre Dame moves up three spots without even playing.

Even though the Notre Dame Fighting Irish had the week off, they gained three spots in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, moving up to No. 11.

A slew of upsets on Saturday caused a lot of movement on the poll. The Alabama Crimson Tide dropped from No. 1 to No. 7 after being upset by Vanderbilt. Not to be outdone, Tennessee lost late to Arkansas and fell four spots to No. 8.

Missouri plummeted 12 spots to No. 21 after losing to Texas A&M, which jumped from No. 25 to No. 15. Defending national champion Michigan  slipped 14 spots to No. 24 after falling to Washington in a title-game rematch.

Schools that moved up included Texas, which went from No. 2 to No. 1, and Ohio State. The Buckeyes moved up from No. 3 to No. 2. The Nittany Lions of Penn State jumped three spots to No. 4 and the Oregon Ducks also moved up three spots — they now sit at No. 3. Georgia remains in No. 5.

Miami hung on to beat Cal and moved up two spots to No. 6. With Alabama at No. 7 and Tennessee at No. 7, the top 10 gets rounded out by Ole Miss moving up three spots and Clemson shooting up five spots to No. 10.

Back on Top! Texas Longhorns return to No. 1 in AP Top 25

Thanks to Vanderbilt’s upset of Alabama, the Texas Longhorns returned to No. 1 in the AP Top 25.

Alabama misery is Texas joy. At least in the college football rankings this week. The Texas Longhorns returned to the top spot of the AP Top 25 thanks to Vanderbilt’s stunning 40-35 upset of former No. 1 the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Texas spent the prior two weeks in the top spot before being passed by the Tide, who were coming off an epic win over the Georgia Bulldogs.

Alabama dropped six spots to No. 7 in the new rankings. The other big fall at the top for the rankings was the Tennessee Volunteers. The Vols, who were upset at Arkansas 19-14, dropped four sports to No. 8.

The Michigan Wolverines and Missouri Tigers, each losers on Saturday, dropped 12 and 14 spots respectively.

SMU and Pitt joined the poll for the first time.

Texas remained No. 1 in the US LBM Coaches Poll this week.

No change for LSU in AP Top 25 after eventful bye week

The Tigers didn’t see any change in the AP Top 25 after Week 6 despite quite a few shocking results around college football during their bye.

LSU couldn’t have picked a better weekend to be idle.

Week 6 was one of the wildest we’ve seen in college football in a while, with four top 10 teams going down including top-five SEC teams in Alabama and Tennessee, which lost road games against Vanderbilt and Arkansas, respectively.

In the US LBM Coaches Poll, the Tigers were a beneficiary. They saw a two-spot rise and now rank inside the top 10. In the AP Top 25, however, it’s a different story. They’re staying put at No. 13 despite a lot of change around them following the bye week.

LSU still has a good chance to climb into the top 10 in the AP poll if it can win its next game at home against Ole Miss, which ranks ninth after a convincing bounce-back win against South Carolina.
