Michigan State quarterback Anthony Russo has reportedly signed a name, image and likeness (NIL) deal with College Hunks Hauling Junk.

Russo — who transferred from Temple this past offseason — spoke with Chris Solari of The Detroit Free Press on his new deal where he’ll serve as a company spokesperson and endorser. The same company signed Miami (FL) D’Eriq King to an NIL deal worth $20,000 immediately when the rule went into place, but Russo won’t be making as much as King.

“It’s been chaos, but it’s definitely an awesome opportunity,” Russo told Solari. “I know we have a lot of guys taking advantage of it. And I think if we have a good year — when we have a good year, I should say – I think it’s just gonna help guys get more and more opportunities. So I’m just happy I could enjoy it for my last year of college.”

Michigan State football had their first spring football scrimmage of the Mel Tucker era on Saturday, and the team played with a lot of intensity and pace, reflective of Tucker’s attitude and demeanor. The team didn’t follow a traditional spring game but instead showed us what a practice under Mel Tucker’s administration looks like.

After the showcase, Mel Tucker and transfer quarterback Anthony Russo spoke to the media to discuss the practice and the team as they currently stand.

Below, we compiled some of the best quotes that were put on Twitter by MSU beat reporters.

Spring football is in the air, and the Michigan State Spartans are gearing up for their annual spring football game this Saturday at Spartan Stadium.

MSU’s social media team has been stellar all spring long, giving the fans a great look inside the program, and today was no exception.

The MSU social media team went behind the scenes with three of Michigan State’s new transfer students: QB Anthony Russo, RB Kenneth Walker and DE Drew Jordan on why they chose to come to Michigan State.

This video was really well done and will make Spartan fans excited to watch these three players come fall.

MSU Football Transfer Tracker: Every incoming and outgoing transfer

So far 12 Spartans have entered the NCAA transfer portal. The Spartans have also gotten three players from the transfer portal so far.

Mel Tucker promised to overhaul the MSU roster through multiple channels, and we have seen that in spades this month as the transfers are starting to pile up for Michigan State football.

The portal has been both an avenue for MSU to find new players and for some of their players who are no longer a fit under Tucker’s new vision to find new homes. At this time, 13 Spartans have entered the NCAA transfer portal to seek new schools. Conversely, the Spartans have also received three players, all likely starters, from the transfer portal.

Let’s review who is leaving and coming to Michigan State:

Michigan State lands grad transfer QB Anthony Russo from Temple

Most of the attention on Wednesday centered around the early signing period opening for the class of 2021 recruits, but there was another big football-related announcement for Michigan State — a new graduate transfer quarterback.

Anthony Russo, a grad transfer quarterback from Temple, announced on Wednesday that he will be coming to MSU next season. Chris Solari of The Detroit Free Press reported that he has one year of eligibility remaining and will be immediately eligible to play next season.

Russo, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, was a three-year starter at Temple, appearing in 26 games. He has a completion percentage of 59.6%, 6,287 passing yards, 44 passing touchdowns and 32 interceptions in his career. Russo also has seven career rushing touchdowns.

This past season, Russo started the first three games of the season but then missed the next two because of a shoulder injury and the final two games after being placed on the COVID-19 protocol list.

Russo will join an interesting competition next spring for the starting quarterback position. As of right now, that will include junior Rocky Lombardi, redshirt freshman Payton Thorne, junior Theo Day, freshman Noah Kim and incoming freshman Hamp Fay — who will be enrolling early this spring.
