Former MSU football commit, AJ Dennis, in transfer portal, Spartans to be involved

Former Michigan State football commit Andrew Dennis is in transfer portal and the Spartans are expected to be involved.

Andrew ‘A.J.’ Dennis was a top-175 offensive line recruit in the 2024 recruiting class and was committed to Michigan State for a good portion of the cycle. After a coaching change in East Lansing, the Mount Pleasant native backed off of his Spartans commitment and chose to go to Illinois.

Now, after spending the spring with Illinois, Dennis has entered the transfer portal, citing a desire to “be closer to home.” This opens the door for the Spartans to get firmly involved to regain the talents of Dennis.

Michigan State football 2024 commitment tracker

UPDATED: Tracking all of Michigan State’s 2024 commits

Mel Tucker is out. Jonathan Smith is in. This all happened during a critical time of the 2024 recruiting cycle and now Michigan State football needs to solidify that class.

Some players will fall out, new names will join, and it will continue to be a mad dash and scramble as MSU tries to fight to bring a strong recruiting class into the first year of the Jonathan Smith era.

Buckle up as we track every recruit confirmed in the 2024 class below.

Top five interior offensive linemen signed to the Big Ten during the early signing period

Top five interior offensive linemen signed to the Big Ten during the early signing period #GoBucks

The initial hype of the early signing period has died down, but there was a ton of talent to explore and so much so we are breaking it down by position. We have already dove into the top five quarterbacksrunning backswide receivers, tight ends and offensive tackles to sign with Big Ten teams and now we want to break down a position that Ohio State actually makes an appearance on after the two position dry-spell in interior offensive linemen.

The Big Ten can recruit linemen and apparently, that is especially true when it comes to the interior as the conference has snagged five of the top ten prospects at the position in the country. Interior offensive linemen are players who are projected to play at either center or guard in college.

A new West Coast addition snagged the top honors, but there are some traditional Big Ten powers making an appearance as well. Let’s now dive into the top five interior offensive lineman to sign with Big Ten teams during the early signing period according to 247Sports.

Clemson offensive line target commits to Illinois

A Clemson offensive line target has committed to Illinois.

Clemson has missed out on a 2024 offensive line target as he has committed to Illinois.

Mt. Pleasant (Mich.) four-star Andrew Dennis took to social media Monday afternoon to announce his decision, with the Fighting Illini being the ones to land the highly touted offensive linemen. This comes two weeks after Dennis took an official visit to Clemson for the Clemson vs. North Carolina State.

According to 247Sports rankings, Dennis is the No.5 interior offensive lineman and the No.159 overall player in the 2024 class. He had crystal ball predictions for Illinois and Michigan State before announcing his decision. Clemson will have to look elsewhere in the 2024 class as the offensive line is a big need for the Tigers.

4-star offensive lineman announces Clemson offer after decommitment from Michigan State

After decommiting from Michigan State, a four-star offensive lineman has announced an offer from Clemson.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program have offered a four-star offensive lineman in the class of 2024.

Recently decommiting from Michigan State with everything going on with that program, Mount Pleasant (Mich.) High School’s Andrew Dennis announced an offer from the Tigers. He reopened his recruitment on October 16th after committing to play for the Spartans in April.

According to 247Sports rankings, Dennis is a four-star recruit, the No.5 interior offensive lineman, and the No.159 overall player in the 2024 class. Dennis’ situation is one to monitor, as there is a clear opportunity to land a top offensive line target in the 2024 class.

In-state offensive lineman decommits from Michigan State football

MSU’s latest lost recruit comes from inside the state of Michigan:

The latest causality in Michigan State’s 2024 recruiting class comes in the form of an instate target. Andrew ‘AJ’ Dennis has made the decision that he is going back on his pledge to Michigan State, while still holding the Spartans in consideration as he navigates to make the best decision for himself.

Dennis is a 4-star prospect from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, attending Mt. Pleasant high school. He has blown up in recruiting with the big senior year he is having.

MSU commit, 4-star OL Andrew ‘AJ’ Dennis continues to pick up offers

One of the Spartans’ top commits in the 2024 class has picked up a ton of attention on the recruiting trail in the past week

One of the Spartans’ top commits in the 2024 class has picked up a ton of attention on the recruiting trail in the past week.

The Mel Tucker saga has left many (including myself) wondering what will happen to the Spartans’ 2024 recruiting class, and it’s clear that Michigan State’s commits are starting to get attention from other programs. That is especially clear with offensive lineman Andrew “AJ” Dennis of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.

In the past week, Dennis has picked up offers from Penn State, Nebraska, Auburn, Stanford and Georgia Tech. As of right now, Dennis is still committed to Michigan State but its apparent that other teams are trying to change that.

Dennis is a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 194 overall prospect in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2024 class. He’s also listed as the No. 9 interior offensive lineman and No. 4 player from Michigan.

Dennis has been a rising star in the 2024 class, and is hopefully someone the Spartans can keep committed. We will have to keep a close eye on his recruitment moving forward.

Looking at recruits that may commit to Michigan State football soon

UPDATED: Looking at prospects who may commit to Michigan State soon with a new addition:

Michigan State football is off to a somewhat slow start to its 2024 recruiting class, securing only two commitments to this point. Compared to recent years, this number is down, but that isn’t something to be worried about yet.

Recruiting is sure to pick up in the near future. As the spring game approaches, several key visitor weekends are scheduled in the coming weeks.

Several prospects high on the Spartans could pull the trigger on a commitment with one more good visit to East Lansing.

Let’s take a look at three prospects who could commit to MSU soon:

Michigan State lands commitment from 3-star offensive lineman Andrew Dennis

Since Mel Tucker took over at Michigan State football, the Spartans have started taking some big home run swings in recruiting. However, your recruiting class still needs to be rounded out with gritty, high quality, in-state talent like Andrew Dennis of Mount Pleasant, who committed to the Spartans on Saturday.

Dennis is the No. 717 ranked player in the 2024 recruiting class by the 247Sports composite rankings and their No. 13 ranked player in the state of Michigan.
