Mel Tucker is out. Jonathan Smith is in. This all happened during a critical time of the 2024 recruiting cycle and now Michigan State football needs to solidify that class.

Some players will fall out, new names will join, and it will continue to be a mad dash and scramble as MSU tries to fight to bring a strong recruiting class into the first year of the Jonathan Smith era.

Buckle up as we track every recruit confirmed in the 2024 class below.

3-star New York WR Syair Torrence decommits from MSU

Michigan State football has lost another commit in the 2024 class

Michigan State football has lost another commit in the 2024 class.

Three-star wide receiver Syair Torrence of Syracuse, N.Y. announced on Sunday that he is reopening his recruitment and decommitting from Michigan State. Torrence committed to the Spartans in late June.

Torrence ranks as the No. 113 wide receiver and No. 5 player from New York in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2024 class.

Michigan State is down to only 10 commits in the 2024 class following Torrence’s decommitment on Sunday. The Spartans’ class ranks No. 64 nationally and No. 17 in the new Big Ten.

Michigan State football: 2024 DB class appears to be complete

MSU’s DB coach Harlon Barnett and CB coach Jim Salgado did a very good job with MSU’s DB class in 2024:

Michigan State saw some change in their defensive back coaching this offseason, adding Jim Salgado as cornerbacks coach to assist with Harlon Barnett. With that change came a new spark in defensive back recruiting, along with new prospects showing up on the board, and no matter how you look at it, Salgado and Barnett hit a home run this June.

The Spartans were able to secure commitments from 4 defensive backs, while solidifying the commitment of Tennessee 4-star Jaylen Thompson.

Ultimately, it can be said that the defensive backfield recruiting has been outstanding for MSU and the Spartans may be finished with that position group in 2024.

Check out who the five members are, and who could be added as a 6th member:
