Corey Seager got back at Alex Bregman with a spicy World Series speech mic drop

The Astros took the AL West division title, but the Rangers got the last laugh.

The Texas Rangers ended one of the longest championship droughts in the history of professional sports, capturing the World Series in five games over the Arizona Diamondbacks and winning the first title in the franchise’s 62-year history.

Despite not winning the AL West Division — that honor went to the rival Houston Astros — Texas went on an incredible run as a wild card squad, going 11-0 on the road in the postseason.

That run included knocking off the Astros in a seven-game ALCS, and at the Rangers’ championship parade, World Series MVP Corey Seager fired a shot across the bow at the Astros, and Alex Bregman specifically.

“I’ve just got one thing to say: Everybody was wondering what would happen if the Rangers didn’t win the World Series,” Seager said. “I guess we’ll never know.”

It’s a clear reference to comments made by Bregman in the clubhouse after the Astros clinched the AL West title via tiebreaker after both squads finished 90-72 in the regular season.

Seager and the Rangers ultimately got the last laugh, it seems.

Five former LSU players set for MLB postseason

These five former Tigers are hoping to make a World Series run this October.

The MLB playoffs begin on Tuesday night and a handful of former LSU players are set to appear.

Last year, we saw [autotag]Aaron Nola[/autotag] and [autotag]Alex Bregman[/autotag] both make World Series runs with the Astros eventually winning it all.

According to BetMGM, the Braves are the current title favorites at +250.

The top five is rounded out by the Dodgers, Astros, Orioles and Phillies.

Several players from this group contributed to postseason runs at LSU, including Nola, who helped lead LSU to a CWS title in 2009.

Here’s a closer look at the five former Tigers competing in October.

LOOK: Former LSU star Alex Bregman showed up to an Astros game wearing a Dylan Crews shirt

Just a former No. 2 MLB draft pick from LSU paying homage to another.

There’s nothing like seeing one LSU legend give some props to another.

Before the Houston Astros game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night, third baseman and former Tigers star [autotag]Alex Bregman[/autotag] paid homage to newly drafted [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] by donning a custom shirt.

Like Bregman back in 2015, Crews also became the second overall pick in the MLB draft when he was selected by the Washington Nationals earlier this month one pick after LSU teammate [autotag]Paul Skenes[/autotag] became the first overall pick.

Crews will hope he can have similar success in his professional career as Bregman, a two-time All-Star and World Series champion who won the Silver Slugger Award back in 2019.

One of the best players in program history, Crews will also hope to follow Bregman’s quick trajectory through the minors after he reached the Major League ranks in just his second professional season.

LSU baseball joins 2024 Astros Foundation College Classic field

After a one-year hiatus from the Astros Foundation Classic, LSU is returning to make a run for the crown.

After a one-year hiatus from the Astros Foundation Classic, LSU is returning to make a run for the crown.

LSU played against Baylor, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and UCLA in 2022 with the Bruins finishing with the best record that year. In 2024, LSU will face Texas, Texas State, Louisiana, Vanderbilt and Houston.

The Tigers will take on Texas on Friday, Louisiana on Saturday, and Texas State on Sunday. Fresh off of winning a national title, the Tigers will be tested early in 2024. I am excited to see a possible [autotag]Thatcher Hurd[/autotag] vs. Texas Part 2.

Hurd made his first start of the season against Southern and it did not go well. His next start was against Texas and he shut the Longhorns down for 4.2 innings as he allowed zero earned runs on three hits, four strikeouts, and three walks.

LSU playing against Louisiana is always a fun game to watch and playing the game during primetime will only amplify that. The last time LSU played Houston was in the Astros Foundation Classic in 2015. Current Houston Astros third baseman [autotag]Alex Bregman[/autotag] led the Tigers to a 4-2 win in that game.

Astros’ Alex Bregman says Texans WR Tank Dell ‘is going to be a superstar’

Houston Astros 3B Alex Bregman says that Houston Texans rookie WR Tank Dell has the makings to be a “superstar” in the NFL.

Growing up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Houston Astros third baseman heard the same criticism over and over throughout his adolescent years.

“He is very talented and works hard, but he lacks the size to become a true major league baseball player,” many critics would say.

All Bregman did was prove them wrong. After his sophomore season at Albuquerque Academy, he was named the USA Baseball Player of the Year. At LSU, his accolades included National Freshman of the Year (2013), the Brooks Wallace Award for the best shortstop in college baseball, and he was selected twice to the All-American team.

Those accomplishments, along with his extremely tough work ethic, were noticed by the Houston Astros, and they used the second overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft to select Bregman, and the rest is history. He has been an intricate piece in helping the Astros win two World Series championships.

So, the 5-foot-9-inch Bregman has proved the naysayers wrong about him being too small to play professionally.

On Saturday, during his post-game press conference, he sent a message to Houston Texans rookie wide receiver Tank Dell, who has battled the same height criticism he had to endure growing up.

“I think he is going to be a superstar,” Bregman said about Dell after helping the Astros defeat the Los Angeles Angels by hitting his fifth career grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning.

If his mother Porsche had been able to carve out the career path for her son, Dell could have eventually become teammates with Bregman on the Astros.

“I was actually trying to get him into baseball around six or seven years old. He was good at that, but would look at me like, ‘What’s the point of this?’” said Porsche Dell in an interview in April 2023.

Dell was selected with the 69th pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL by the Texans. He is currently in his third week of voluntary OTAs and has impressed his coaches with his work ethic both on and off the field.

“I don’t think anyone has noticed how big of a leap it is because he’s been on it, and he’s been working,” said Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik about Dell. “He’s taking what we’re telling him as far as coaching, as far as what we see in the fundamentals of route running. He’s a pretty natural separator, but to also apply, okay, how does this fit within the offense when I know the quarterback has to look at me at this time, and there’s a lot that goes into that for him. It’s been hitting the ground running for him.”

The Daytona Beach, Florida native was mesmerizing during his three years on the field for the University of Houston. He led the nation in receiving yards and touchdowns in his final season.

“Every time I step on the field, I feel like I with two chips on both shoulders,” Dell said during the 2023 NFL combine. “Every time I step on the field, I feel like I have a point to prove.”

Rutgers baseball: Josh Kuroda-Grauer named semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award

Rutgers baseball’s Josh Kuroda-Grauer named semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award.

With only three games left in the regular season, Rutgers baseball is turning its attention to the Big Ten tournament. The Scarlet Knights are currently the fourth-best team in the Big Ten, partly due to the play of Josh Kuroda-Grauer. On Thursday, he earned national recognition for his impressive season.

The New Jersey native was named one of the 25 semifinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, which is given annually to the top shortstop in the country. In just his second year as a Scarlet Knight, Kuroda-Grauer has become one of the best shortstops in college baseball.

In 51 games this year, the Franklin High School product has posted a .301 batting average while driving in 32 runs. He has shown more power than he did as a freshman, as 22 of his 62 hits have gone for extra bases. His ability to add pressure with his speed makes Kuroda-Grauer a matchup nightmare for pitchers.

While the talented sophomore has excelled at the plate, he has been just as good defensively. He has only committed six errors while appearing in every game. Over the last two years, his durability has been crucial to his game.

Although Kuroda-Grauer is focused on helping Rutgers make a deep playoff run, he could soon join unique company. The list of past winners of the Brooks Wallace Award includes Trea Turner, Dansby Swanson, and Alex Bregman. All three have gone on to be very productive players in the majors.

If Kuroda-Grauer were to win the award this year, he would become the second player to do so in their sophomore season in the last 18 years. Regardless of how the next few weeks play out, Kuroda-Grauer is finally receiving national recognition for his skills.

Every former LSU player set to make a 2023 MLB roster

Here are the eight former LSU players expected to make an impact with a big-league club

Opening Day is fast approaching.

Spring has sprung and professional baseball is upon us. While LSU is having success on the college front, several alumni are enjoying stints in the big leagues. LSU has eight former players expected to earn significant playing time with even more in the minors.

We’re taking a look at the expectations for each as they begin their 2023 season. Eight is a decent number. Baseball isn’t like football where nearly everyone goes to college, but LSU still produces a good amount of talent.

We begin with the biggest name: [autotag]Alex Bregman[/autotag].

Alex Bregman sees parallels in current Astros, young Rockets

“I think everyone in Houston remembers when another team was young and made their rise to the top,” Alex Bregman says. “Hopefully the #Rockets do the same thing.”

It’s easy to forget, but before the Houston Astros were four-time American League champions and two-time World Series winners in the six-season span since 2017, they were among Major League Baseball’s worst teams during the early 2010s.

That all changed, of course, when top prospects such as Alex Bregman started to arrive in Houston in the middle of last decade.

Could that be what’s happening now with the NBA’s Rockets, who entered Thursday with five consecutive home wins and a 6-4 mark over their last 10 games? With young prospects Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr. leading the way, the hope is Houston’s basketball franchise will soon be on its own upward trajectory.

Bregman, who often attends Rockets games during MLB’s offseason, was on hand at Thursday’s Rockets-Heat game to take the game’s ceremonial first shot for charity. Though he missed the shot, Bregman made it clear he was happy to be at Toyota Center, and he’s hopeful of what the Rockets are building these days. His comments:

I love being out here, we come to a lot of Rockets games. It’s a blast. I’m thankful they had my wife and I out tonight. Too bad I bricked it. I’ll never question why somebody doesn’t make a free throw ever again.

It’s been awesome. This is an exciting team. I think everyone here in Houston remembers when another team was young and made their rise to the top. Hopefully the Rockets do the same thing.

Bregman, who played his college baseball at Louisiana State University (LSU), was also thrilled to see a former LSU Tiger on the court: Rockets rookie forward Tari Eason.

“It’s awesome,” said Bregman, wearing Green’s Rockets jersey in the same City Blue edition worn by the team that night. “Eason, (Derek) Stingley with the Texans, it’s so cool. I think it’s mandatory each year that one of the Houston franchises has to draft an LSU guy.”

Top 6 best bets to win 2022 World Series MVP

Top 6 players to bet for World Series MVP.

The World Series begins Friday with the Houston Astros hosting the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1.

Both teams enter the series on impressive runs, increasing the level of intrigue for what might happen. The betting favorite to win, Houston swept its way through the postseason to the World Series. Barely outdone, the Phillies made the playoffs as a Wild Card before sweeping that round, and losing just a single game in the NLDS and NLCS each.

With this unlikely World Series about to commence, it’s time to look at my top six MVP candidates and their odds to win. Astros dominate the list, because Houston is favored to win, but a couple Phillies made the list too.
