When was the last time the Texas Rangers played in the World Series?

The Rangers are still looking for their first World Series victory.

While it’s been almost a quarter century since the Arizona Diamondbacks have played in the World Series, it’s really only been about a decade for the Texas Rangers, who are going for their first Commissioner’s Trophy.

The Rangers — after topping the Houston Astros in the American League Division Series — will take on Arizona in the World Series, making their first appearance since 2011. That season, they took on the St. Louis Cardinals, but fell short of a championship, losing the series, 4-3.

Texas also went to the World Series in 2010 — those are its only two appearances before this season — but lost that one too to the San Francisco Giants, 4-1.

To return to the World Series, the Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Rays in the Wild Card Series and the Baltimore Orioles in the AL Division Series before sending the Astros home.

Game 1 of the 2023 World Series will be in Arlington, Texas and is set for Friday, Oct. 27 at 8:03 p.m. ET on Fox.

Mattress Mack needed a wheelbarrow to load $10 million of his World Series bets onto a jet

“This money is heavy!”

If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to move $10 million of cold hard cash from one place to another, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale has you covered.

The Houston-area furniture boss — and sports betting legend — had to travel, presumably home, with $10 million of his record $75 million payout from a combination of bets on the Houston Astros to win the World Series.

BetMGM caught it on camera from the moment a car dropped McIngvale and his money off at a tarmac where a jet awaited him.

He needed a wheelbarrow to move the cash from the car to the jet.

“This money is heavy!”

I don’t doubt that. I just hope McIngvale had a safe trip home.

Astros fans, you’re in luck.

HOUSTON – It’s safe to say sports fans in the Houston area have been treated to a special couple weeks.

Last week, the Houston Texans hosted a primetime football game. This week, the PGA Tour makes its first of five Texas stops during the 2022-23 season at the 2022 Cadence Bank Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course.

Oh, yeah. And the Houston Astros won the 2022 World Series on Saturday. That’s a pretty big deal.

There’s no shortage of blue, orange and white roaming the grounds of the PGA Tour’s eighth stop of the fall slate. And those colors are scattered everywhere throughout the merchandise tent, too.

Trey Mancini plays first in Houston Astros’ World Series clincher

A great night for the former Irish slugger.

With Yuli Gurriel off the Houston Astros’ World Series roster because of an injury, Notre Dame alumnus [autotag]Trey Mancini[/autotag] was the next man up. He was the Astros’ starting first baseman in Game 6, and he played the whole game. That means he was on the field during the final out of the Astros’ 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, giving them their second championship in six years.

As a bonus for Mancini, he singled to lead off the third inning, giving him his only hit in 21 at-bats this postseason. He didn’t stay on the bases for long as he promptly was thrown out at second base on a fielder’s choice. Still, it’s unlikely he cares about that as much as the partying he’ll be doing for the next few days.

[autotag]Matt Vierling[/autotag] started for the Phillies in center field and recorded one walk in two plate appearances before being pulled for a pinch-hitter in the eighth. He finished the post season hitting 2 for 13.

Trey Mancini is late substitute for Astros in Game 5 World Series win

Mancini shows more value with his glove than his bat.

Once again, Notre Dame alumni were absent from both starting lineups of a World Series contest. That changed in the eighth inning en route to a 3-2 Houston Astros win, giving them a 3-2 series lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. With two outs, [autotag]Trey Mancini[/autotag] was called on to pinch-hit for Yuli Gurriel, but he struck out to end the inning, bringing him to 0 for 18 in the postseason. However, he stayed in the game to take over at first base.

Mancini was much more productive with his glove. He fielded Kyle Schwarber’s ground ball and recorded the unassisted third out in the bottom of the eighth, snuffing out a Phillies rally that had produced one run. Then, he got the final putout of the ninth and the game when Nick Castellanos grounded out to shortstop Jeremy Pena.

[autotag]Matt Vierling[/autotag] did not appear for the Phillies at all. He has not played since he appeared as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning of Game 3, when Mancini flied out to him.

Kyle Schwarber ensured Phillies wouldn’t be embarrassingly no-hit again by mashing a HR in first at-bat

SCHWARBOMB!

Kyle Schwarber talked the talk after the Philadelphia Phillies were no-hit in Game 4 of the World Series and now he’s walking the walk.

After the Phillies were embarrassingly no-hit by the Houston Astros, Schwarber gave the most Philadelphia quote of all time in response to being asked about the historic moment. On Thursday, it only took one batter — Schwarber himself — for the Phillies to register a hit and in a big way.

With the Phillies down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Schwarber tied things up and ensured Philadelphia wouldn’t be no-hit again with a monster solo shot to right field to send fans into a frenzy.

Now that’s one way to silence the critics! The Phillies and their fans really needed a moment like that after Game 4 then going down early in Game 5, but it’s no surprise that Schwarber was the one to deliver the goods after making such a statement the night before.

Same cities, same night: 3 parlays to sweeten the rare World Series-NFL crossover between Houston and Philadelphia

The Astros and Phillies will play a World Series game at the same time the Eagles are playing the Texans.

On Thursday night, one of the truly rare things in sports will occur when Game 5 of the World Series takes place at the same time as Thursday Night Football — and Philadelphia and Houston teams play in both games.

It’ll be just the seventh time ever that a World Series and NFL game takes place on the same day involving the same two metro areas, according to ELIAS.

That also means it’s time for bettors to get crazy with parlays they never thought possible. Below, I put together my favorite low-risk, medium-risk and high-risk two-leg parlays from tonight’s action between the Astros and Phillies, and Eagles and Texans.

Phillies no-hitter leads to one of the all-time bad beats thanks to the 76ers offense

You can’t make this up.

The Philadelphia Phillies were on the wrong side of baseball history Wednesday night when the Houston Astros threw the first postseason combined no-hitter against them — in the World Series.

That likely left some unsuspecting bettors on the wrong side of an all-time bad beat.

DraftKings Sportsbook offered an all-Philadelphia over/under of 19.5 on Phillies hits combined with 76ers 3-pointers, according to Chattanooga Times Free Press columnist Jay Greeson.

And the Sixers made exactly 19 threes in their game against the Washington Wizards. All bettors needed was a single hit from the Phillies to cash out, and well, you know the rest.

This was an absolutely brutal way to lose.

Of course, not everyone was a loser. The no-hitter also made a few people a lot of money.

Circa Sportsbook offered a no-hitter prop with 75-1 odds on the “yes.” Sportsbook owner Derek Stevens told ESPN’s David Purdum the prop did receive some bets.

I guess one person’s bad beat is another’s treasure.

Notre Dame alumni sidelined for World Series no-hitter

Big game, but no former Irish played in it.

Game 4 of the 2022 World Series will be remembered forever. After getting six no-hit innings from starting pitcher Cristian Javier, the Houston Astros used three relievers to complete the first combined no-hitter in World Series history and the Fall Classic’s first no-hitter in any form since Don Larsen’s perfect game in 1956. The 5-0 win tied the series at two wins apiece.

Just like Game 3, neither the Astros’ [autotag]Trey Mancini[/autotag], nor the Phillies’ [autotag]Matt Vierling[/autotag] were penciled into their respective teams’ starting lineup. This time, there would be no late-inning substitutions. Both of them rode the pine for the entirety of this historic game. So while there was Notre Dame representation in both dugouts, you won’t see it in the box score.

The good news for Mancini and Vierling is that the Astros’ victory means a Game 6 is guaranteed. The bad news is it’s hard to see either of them suddenly playing a major role in the series’ outcome. Then again, we’ve seen crazier things in baseball.

Trey Mancini flies out to Matt Vierling in ninth inning of Game 3

If you blinked, you missed it.

For eight innings of the Philadelphia Phillies’ 7-0 Game 3 win over the Houston Astros, Notre Dame alumni were nowhere to be seen. Neither the Astros’ [autotag]Trey Mancini[/autotag], nor the Phillies’ [autotag]Matt Vierling[/autotag] were in their respective teams’ starting lineup. The idea that the two would intersect at all during this year’s World Series seemed to be fading. Then, it all changed.

With the game pretty much decided, Vierling entered right field as a defensive substitute in the ninth inning. Then, with one out, Mancini was called upon as a pinch hitter. That’s when the moment Irish fans were waiting for happened. On a 3-1 count, Mancini hit a fly ball to right, and Vierling was there to catch it.

No, it wasn’t a very exciting play, and it’s unlikely anyone will remember it. What people care about more is that Vierling is two wins away from a World Series title, and Mancini is 0 for 17 so far in his first postseason. Still, for one brief moment on baseball’s biggest stage, the Irish alumni came together.
