Alabama vs Georgia: Predictions and analysis

Check out analysis and predictions for the Georgia vs. Alabama men’s basketball showdown in Tuscaloosa.

The Alabama men’s basketball team has won six of the last seven games. The Crimson Tide are trending in the right direction. Nate Oats and the rest of the Alabama coaching staff have re-harnessed the team’s energy and have got things looking promising as we approach the midway point of conference play.

On Wednesday night, Alabama will take on Georgia inside Stegeman Coliseum in Athens. The Bulldogs hold a 14-6 overall record and are 4-3 in conference play.

Mike White’s squad has been competitive and will make things difficult for Alabama early on.

The Bulldogs are led by three veteran guards in Jabri Abdul-Rahim, Noah Thomasson, and RJ Melendez. The three of them combine to average 36.4 points per game and have shot 41.4% from the floor.

The biggest issue that Georgia will face is trying to navigate and neutralize Alabama’s backcourt. Alabama’s guards (Aaron Estrada, Mark Sears, Rylan Griffen, and Latrell Wrightsell Jr.) have been playing extremely well down the stretch. Ultimately, I feel like that will be the biggest difference in Wednesday night’s matchup.

My final score prediction is Alabama 82-70.

Areas of concern ahead of Alabama’s SEC Championship matchup against Georgia

Areas of concern for the Crimson Tide ahead of Alabama’s matchup against Georgia.

Alabama versus Georgia is one of the most anticipated matchups of the 2023 season. The Crimson Tide seemed to have peaked at the right time and have an opportunity to boost its resume against a very good Georgia team on Saturday evening.

The Tide had some issues against Auburn last week, as the team struggled against the run and had some difficulties late in the game on offense. For the most part, Alabama has made things look relatively easy in the past few weeks.

That could change against an experienced, talented squad like Georgia. It will not be as easy to get by with bone-headed mistakes or costly penalties.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down the areas of concern ahead of Alabama’s SEC Championship matchup against Georgia.

WATCH: Colin Cowherd gives strong CFP national championship prediction

Colin Cowherd held nothing back with his CFP national championship prediction!

There is a narrative that you can’t beat the same team twice in one season. While it becomes more difficult the second time around, it isn’t impossible.

Many experts from around the country are using this logic to make their picks for the title game that will be held Monday night. They simply believe that Alabama can’t beat Georgia twice in the same season.

Colin Cowherd is perhaps best known for his hot-takes and bold predictions. Today, on his show, “The Herd with Colin Cowherd”,  Cowherd held nothing back on his prediction for the College Football Playoff national championship.

Not only is Cowherd picking Nick Saban and the Tide, but he also doesn’t believe that Kirby Smart and Bulldogs have submitted any proof that they can keep it competitive with Nick Saban and Alabama.

Will Cowherd’s prediction come true? I guess we’ll find out Monday night!

Why Alabama Will Win

There was an off day in a blowout against Arkansas last week, but everything is back to normal with great defensive performances in wins over Mississippi State and Auburn as part of a run of five wins in the last six games.

One of those wins was over Georgia in mid-February, with the offense hitting 64% from the field and 60% from three in the 115-82 obliteration. That’s not all that crazy for a Bulldog game – Georgia gives up 78 points per game partly because the offense gives up a ton of turnovers for easy scores.

The Crimson Tide will get points on the move, they’ll shoot a ton of threes, and on this defense, they’ll make most of them.

Why Georgia Will Win

Alabama might be taking it easy. It already won the SEC Championship and doesn’t necessarily need this for anything more than a tune-up for the games that matter.

For all of Georgia’s problems and issues, the team has no problems trying to crank up the scoring. It can rebound, move the ball around, and it’ll get into the speed of the game with the ability to play in the 80s without a problem.

It’s Senior Day – the Dawgs will be cranked for this.

What’s Going To Happen

Georgia has been just good enough at home to make this more of a fight than Bama might like. No, the Tide won’t take the day off, but the Bulldogs will ramp up the intensity just enough to keep this from being a blowout.

Alabama (16-5) vs Georgia (12-7) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Georgia Will Win

The team can shoot.

It’s hit-or-miss from three – too often miss – but it’s great at getting to the basket and comes up with a whole lot of points off of defensive big plays.

The Bulldogs are 9-1 when hitting 48% or better from the field, and it’s going to keep on firing and keep on pressing the foot on the gas. On the flip side, the Alabama O has gone strangely cold over the last few weeks. It’s struggling from the outside and hasn’t hit 40% from the field in three of its last four games.

However …

Why Alabama Will Win

Georgia almost HAS to hit 48% or better to win.

In 12 SEC games, Georgia is 4-1 when making 48% or more of its shots, and is 1-6 when it doesn’t.

Alabama hasn’t allowed anyone to hit 48% from the field in SEC play. the defense is solid in field goal percentage and it cleans up everything off the misses.

Georgia might force a ton of mistakes, but Bama leads the SEC in steals and should come up with a bazillion against a mistake-prone Dawg O.

What’s Going To Happen

Expect a fun game.

Alabama has lost two of its last three games, but they were both on the road and the offense went cold in both games against Oklahoma and Missouri. Everything will get going again in a good win against a Georgia O that’s going to be strong, but won’t be quite hot enough.

Desmond Howard believes Nick Saban will be on the sidelines this Saturday

College GameDay’s Desmond Howard believes that Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban will be on the field for their matchup with UGA.

College GameDay’s Desmond Howard believes that Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban will be on the sidelines for his team’s game against the Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday. Nick Saban, who has tested positive for COVID-19, is currently coaching the Crimson Tide remotely.

Desmond Howard did not cite a reason for Nick Saban being able to coach from the field. If Saban’s test was a false positive, then it is possible that he’d be able to return. He’d have to pass several more tests to confirm that his original test was a false positive.

Nick Saban could theoretically wear a mask and social distance from his team and not transmit the virus, but that would be risky for student athletes and may go against established protocol. The Alabama head coach is asymptomatic.

Desmond Howard, a former Michigan Wolverines player, famously won the Heisman Trophy in 1991. Howard has won a Super Bowl MVP award as well.

Here’s his Tweet where he stated his prediction:

It is hard to imagine Alabama football without Nick Saban on the sidelines. Nick Saban began his Alabama coaching career in 2007 and has helped the Crimson Tide establish a dynasty.

We remain skeptical that Saban will be able to coach in the game. Howard’s hypothesis seems more like a conspiracy than a reality for the time being. Still, Desmond Howard could have an inside scoop about the Crimson Tide head coch.

Saban’s not allowed virtual communication with the team either. Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will be the interim coach against No. 3 ranked Georgia.
