2024 five-star WR Micah Hudson visits Texas

Texas is becoming a destination for top wide receivers like Micah Hudson.

The Forty Acres is a destination for top wide receivers. It appears Micah Hudson is taking notice.

Hudson, the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 6 overall player in the 247Sports composite for 2024, is taking in what Austin has to offer this weekend. This comes just after Georgia receiver transfer Adonai Mitchell chose the Longhorns.

It’s easy to see why big time pass catchers are enamored with playing in Steve Sarkisian’s scheme. Xavier Worthy and Ja’Tavion Sanders each had breakout seasons in their first full-time starting opportunities on campus. Some of their success can be attributed to an offense that leverages the full power of their skillsets.

Sarkisian is known for scheming receivers open and allowing them to get yards after catch in space. As for how he would utilize Hudson, the Longhorns’ offensive play caller may not have to do much scheming to get the elite talent open.

Hudson will be a matchup nightmare regardless of scheme, but playing for Texas certainly wouldn’t hurt his stock. Steve Sarkisian and company will look to make strides in his recruitment.

Georgia transfer wide receiver AD Mitchell commits to Texas

The addition of AD Mitchell means Texas has three No. 1 caliber receivers.

It’s time to make room in the trophy case. The addition of Georgia transfer wide receiver Adonai Mitchell means Texas is a Big 12 championship contender.

The Longhorns made Mitchell’s inclusion for the 2023 roster official as of Friday evening as he signed to join the team. In making the move Texas takes away the Georgia Bulldogs’ No. 1 receiver.

As it stands, Steve Sarkisian will now have three No. 1 caliber receivers including Xavier Worthy and Isaiah Neyor. In addition, the team has an elite No. 2 caliber option in Jordan Whittington and the Big 12’s best tight end, Ja’Tavion Sanders.

The move says a couple things for Texas. First, the team is intent on team building regardless of how good it is presently. Secondly, it gives credence to the notion that Sarkisian and company will spend plenty of time passing the ball.

The biggest takeaway is, Texas is all but injury proof at the position. Now Quinn Ewers can focus on simply getting the ball to the open man rather than forcing it only to his top target.

The Longhorns got better today. You can expect Texas to run empty formation with the five receivers listed above. Mitchell is a significant addition and should make an impact right away.

Texas Football: Transfer WR AD Mitchell visited Austin on Thursday

Adonai Mitchell would free up Xavier Worthy, Isaiah Neyor and Jordan Whittington to be themselves in the offense.

AD Mitchell took in what the Forty Acres has to offer on Thursday. This comes just one day after the Georgia transfer wide receiver entered the portal.

It’s unclear whether or not he’s made up his mind, but Texas is clearly at the forefront given his actions so far.

Mitchell was set to become Georgia’s No. 1 receiver after capping a strong freshman season with a clutch touchdown in the national championship game against Alabama. A high ankle injury had other plans.

Despite the injury, you can expect the alpha receiver to be a matchup problem Texas didn’t have outside of Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington at receiver. Mitchell is a route running technician in the red zone and a home run threat downfield.

Adding the dynamic pass catcher would do a number of things for Texas. Perhaps the biggest improvement Mitchell would bring is allowing himself and other receivers on the roster to play to their strengths.

Xavier Worthy and Quinn Ewers simply weren’t on the same page on deep passes in 2022. Mitchell and Isaiah Neyor would figure to be the better deep ball options for Ewers, while Worthy would feast on passes fifteen to twenty-five yards downfield.

Texas will look to close on the game-changing recruitment.

Twitter reacts to UGA WR Adonai Mitchell entering the transfer portal

How did Georgia fans and media react to star receiver Adonai Mitchell entering the transfer portal?

A lot of Georgia fans may be upset that one of the Bulldogs’ top pass catchers, Adonai “A.D.” Mitchell, has entered the transfer portal. For the second straight season, one of Georgia’s most talented receivers has entered the transfer portal after winning a national championship.

Mitchell will be missed, but Georgia fans should remember the great moments from his career and not dwell on the negative. The Bulldogs are back-to-back national champions and it does not get much better than that.

Let’s take a look at some reactions from Georgia fans and media to Adonai Mitchell entering the transfer portal.

Kirby Smart provides injury update on Jalen Carter, Adonai Mitchell

Kirby Smart discusses injuries to AD Mitchell and Jalen Carter

Georgia Bulldogs head football coach Kirby Smart met with the media on Monday to discuss the Week 3 win over South Carolina and the upcoming home game versus Kent State.

Smart discussed the departure of defensive back William Poole, a sixth year senior who has played in 33 games throughout his UGA career.

“William Poole is not going to be with us for the remainder of the season,” Smart said.

“He’s dealing with a personal matter, and he’s going to focus on that and his health and well-being, so he will not be with us for the rest of the year, unfortunately.”

He also discussed the health of two big-time players: Defensive tackle Jalen Carter and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.

Mitchell did not play in Georgia’s 48-7 win over South Carolina due to an ankle injury he suffered against Samford the week prior.

“We’re hoping to get him back this week,” Smart said. “Again, it’s one of those deals where last week we were hopeful to get him back.”

As for Carter, Smart said the superstar defensive tackle has been dealing with an ankle injury since Georgia’s Week 1 win over Oregon.

That held Carter out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Gamecocks, though he still managed two tackles in the game on 11 snaps played.

“Jalen has been dealing with a lingering ankle issue, he really had it since the Oregon game and he’s trying to get well,” Smart said.

“We’re trying to get him healthy. Hopefully, he’ll be full-go. He was close last week but didn’t end up having to play a lot of snaps.”

Georgia has just one sack through three games this season.

Additionally, Smart said that cornerback Nyland Green is dealing with a lingering hamstring issue. Green did not play against South Carolina.

George Pickens identifies Georgia’s next go-to wide receiver

Pickens picks UGA’s next great WR

George Pickens was Georgia’s go-to receiver for the better part of the last three years.

But now that Pickens is on the way out and headed to the NFL, it’s time for Georgia to find its next “George Pickens.” According to Pickens himself, that player is already on the roster and has one year under his belt.

“AD [Adonai Mitchell],” Pickens said after his pro day on Wednesday, according to Dawgs247.

“It’s like, some stuff you can’t coach. That’s really part of it. He’s got the skills, he’s got the mindset, the routes, the speed. I mean, he’s got it all. So he probably is the next upcoming, and I’m glad that he got to see me before I left so he can kind of understand.”

A former three-star out Antioch, Tennessee, Mitchell had an outstanding freshman season for the Bulldogs.

It all started when he caught seven passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in last year’s spring game. And he closed it out with maybe the biggest play of the season, a 40 yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter of the national championship to give UGA a 19-18 lead over Alabama.

Mitchell ended the season with 29 receptions for 426 yards four touchdowns.

5 Bulldogs to watch in the CFP national championship

5 Bulldogs Tide fans should watch in the CFP national championship!

When Alabama and Georgia face off on Jan. 10 in the CFP national championship, there will be as much NFL talent collectively on the field as a college football game could possibly have.

Both the Tide and Bulldogs are littered with future next-level stars and the SEC title game rematch is destined to be one to remember.

Alabama dominated Georiga a month ago in Atlanta 41-24. Bryce Young picked apart the Bulldog secondary and the Tide defense made the plays when they needed to, including a Jordan Battle pick-six to seal the victory.

The Bulldogs are fired up for the rematch and Alabama is focused on winning back-to-back titles for the first time in playoff history.

Before the two titans of college football clash, let’s take a look at five of the Georgia Bulldogs that Alabama fans should look for in the contest.

Watch: AD Mitchell catches first career TD, puts Georgia up 21-6 over South Carolina

Watch freshman AD Micthell catch the first touchdown of his career.

Georgia’s offense is full of big plays tonight versus South Carolina in Athens.

Quarterback J.T. Daniels already tossed a 43 yard touchdown to Jermaine Burton and just followed it up with a 38 yard bomb to freshman receiver Adonai Mitchell

That’s Mitchell’s first career touchdown catch and certainly will not be his last.

Daniels and the Bulldogs are rolling right now after a few hiccups early in the second quarter. Stetson Bennett made an appearance under center and threw an interception. Daniels has seemingly steadied the ship and moving the ball at will and is 5 of 6 on third down so far.

The game is live on ESPN.

Georgia football player card: WR George Pickens

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver George Pickens tore his ACL this offseason and is expected to miss a portion of the upcoming football season

Wide Receiver George Pickens (No. 1):

Class: Junior

Height: 6-3

Weight: 190 lbs

Hometown: Hoover, Alabama

High School: Hoover High School

Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver George Pickens tore his ACL this offseason and is expected to miss a portion of the college football season. Pickens is ranked one of the top returning receivers in the country. He will be eligible for the 2022 NFL draft.

In eight games last season, Pickens hauled in 36 catches for 513 yards and six touchdowns. Though his overall numbers weren’t as big, he averaged one more catch per game (4.5) and more yards per game (12.2) than as a freshman.

Pickens began his career at Georgia with eight touchdowns and 727 receiving yards as a true freshman.

Pickens came to Athens as a highly touted five-star recruit. He saved his best game for last in 2019. Pickens shredded the Baylor Bears for 175 receiving yards on 12 catches (both career highs for Pickens) en route to winning MVP honors at the 2020 Sugar Bowl.

Kirby Smart and Georgia will need other receivers to step up in Pickens’ absence. Jermaine Burton, Darnell Washington, Arian Smith, Adonai Mitchell, Dominick Blaylock and Kearis Jackson will play a larger role in games with Pickens out.

The Bulldog offense looked much better to end the 2021 college football season under quarterback J.T. Daniels.

USA TODAY Sports names Georgia’s breakout stars from spring practice

USA TODAY Sports has named the breakout stars on offense and defense for Georgia football in the upcoming 2021 season.

The SEC has wrapped up its spring practices around the conference, completed its annual spring games, and is now ready to take preparation for the 2021 season to the next level.

Georgia, despite having nine players selected in the 2021 NFL draft, returns a loaded roster that many predict will be talented enough to take the Dawgs back to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2017.

Kirby Smart lost his best offensive player, wide receiver George Pickens, to a torn ACL, but the concern it created about UGA’s weapons on the outside was minimal.

That’s in large part thanks to the play of wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, who USA TODAY Sports named UGA’s top emerging offensive player.

The former three-star out of Cane Ridge High School in Antioch, Tennessee turned a lot of heads at Georgia’s G-Day scrimmage in April. Mitchell caught seven passes for 105 yards and a touchdown during the spring scrimmage and has a lot of Georgia fans excited about his potential to fill in for Pickens.

Mitchell was certainly not a household name among those who closely follow college football recruiting. The 381st overall player in America, Mitchell was only considered the 64th best receiver in the class of 2021.
