WR Josh Reynolds leaves fellow Aggies alumnus Dan Campbell for multi-year deal in AFC

Following 2-plus years with Detroit, Aggies alumnus Josh Reynolds is departing Dan Campbell’s squad for a multi-year deal with an AFC team.

Following two and a half seasons with the Detroit Lions, Texas A&M alumnus Josh Reynolds is departing fellow former Aggie Dan Campbell‘s squad for a multi-year deal with an AFC team.

According to a report from ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Reynolds has signed a two-year deal worth up to $14 million with the Denver Broncos.

“It’s awesome, man. My uncles are diehard Broncos fan. Even just saying that y’all were in the mix of things, they were ecstatic. For me to come out here, I hope to change stuff up,” Reynolds told Denver team reporter and producer Sydney Jones. “I’ve always been an admirer of coach Payton. Seeing him with the Saints for so long, I just love his creativeness, I know he’s going to put great people around the facility and I’m just looking forward to working with him. I’m hyped and ready for it.

“I’m on the smoother side but you got a playmaker for sure. Hopefully a guy to help win.”

Reynolds finished the 2023 regular season with 40 receptions for 608 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Report: Commanders and Patriots are ‘apprehensive to trade down’

A new report suggests the Commanders and Patriots are reluctant to move down.

The NFL owners meetings are taking place this week.

There is discussion and voting regarding rule changes, and the media, of course, is finding ways to still talk about the draft ad nauseam until the day it arrives, Thursday, April 25.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter Monday recalled, “At the meeting last year, lots of talk on Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson. This year, it will be the teams trying to come up to Washington’s spot at 2 and New England’s spot at 3 in the draft. Though, both teams are apprehensive to give up those picks.”

The thinking behind such a comment is that both the Commanders and the Patriots are in such dire need of a starting quarterback that they will be more inclined to not want to move back in the draft, choosing to stay put at No. 2 and 3 and therefore selecting their new respective quarterbacks.

Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy had his pro day last week and impressed, making a good enough showing that he is being projected even higher up the draft board by increasing numbers of analysts.

He is a good enough athlete that he has entered the second tier of Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and now McCarthy. McCarthy had initially been graded much lower due to the fact that the Michigan offense was a run-dominated offense.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn recently referred to Daniels simply as a “game changer.” The signing of Marcus Mariota, also led to many instantly responding it meant the team was going to draft Daniels. But this conveniently ignores the Commanders actually first pursued Sam Darnold prior to Mariota.

All three of the second-tier quarterbacks have much growing to do in their NFL careers. Yet, they have displayed enough talent and mobility that they are considered to be high first-round selections.

If you are the Patriots or Commanders, you don’t want to get too cute here and trade down too far, not obtaining a quality quarterback in the draft.

Thus, the teams might indeed be increasingly apprehensive to trade down, just as Schefter expressed on Monday.

We still have another month of this…

REPORT: Chiefs to trade DB L’Jarius Sneed to Titans

Chiefs reportedly will trade CB L’Jarius Sneed to the Titans

The L’Jarius Sneed era with the Kansas City Chiefs appears to have ended. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have agreed to trade the veteran cornerback to the Tennessee Titans.

The deal was announced late Friday night, and the Chiefs expect to receive a 2025 third-round pick; the teams will also swap seventh-round picks in next month’s draft. Before becoming official, the trade is pending a physical for Sneed. The Titans are reportedly ready to sign him to a long-term extension following the deal’s completion.

Sneed’s departure is expected to free up $19.8 million against Kansas City’s salary cap. The team initially franchise-tagged the veteran at the start of the offseason.

Sneed earned a solid reputation as a gritty cornerback who could follow and shut down a team’s best wide receiver. The 27-year-old was a fourth-round draft pick in the 2020 NFL draft. During his 57 regular-season games with the Chiefs, he had 10 interceptions and 40 passes defended. In the postseason, he had one interception and seven passes defended in 13 games.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter: “Colts and Chiefs have not discussed a deal for L’Jarius Sneed”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter told Pat McAfee that the #Colts and #Chiefs have not discussed a deal for star DB L’Jarius Sneed

The trade rumors between the Kansas City Chiefs and L’Jarius Sneed gained plenty of steam over the weekend. Many critics believed a deal could be completed soon, and they questioned the details surrounding the alleged conversations.

During his Monday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter gave insider comments on the rumored trade scenario.

“The Chiefs have no problems right now playing with him on that tag,” Schefter explained. “He wants a long-term deal. So it’s up to him and his agent to see if they can help broker a deal and structure something to get him the long-term security he wants.

“But no, nothing right now has gotten done. The Colts are not expected to be in on him. The Colts and Chiefs have not discussed a deal for L’Jarius Sneed, at least to date. Could that change? You never know. You never know, but nothing, no conversation between those two teams. And that’s where we’re at right now.”

The Colts and Chiefs have been linked regarding Sneed for a while, and even if a deal isn’t being officially worked on, it is still early in the offseason. Schefter made a notable statement about the Chiefs’ willingness to safely move forward with Sneed on a franchise tag in 2024.

Antonio Brown asks Adam Schefter for credit on Russell Wilson scoop

Antonio Brown’s overwhelming desire to be noticed seems to know no limits.

Late Sunday night, the news broke that Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was planning to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The initial reports came out from all the usual sources including ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter.

One guy who wants some credit for the breaking news is former Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. He tweeted on Friday that his former team was signing Wilson to a one-year deal.

Brown even went so far as to reach out to Schefter in a DM asking for credit for breaking the story two days earlier. Schefter handled Brown like a pro but didn’t offer up the credit, leading Brown to take to social media to talk about it.

If anyone should claim they broke this story it is former NFL receiver Chad Johnson. He called it over a week ago when he said a little bird told him Wilson was headed to the Steelers. Once we knew there was an interest between Wilson and the Steelers it wasn’t hard to connect the dots and assume this is how it would end. But Brown has never been a guy to squander an opportunity to insult someone or beg for attention.

Former Wisconsin quarterback finds new home with title contender

Former Badgers quarterback finds new home with storied franchise

The Russell Wilson saga in the NFL has been an ongoing story for a few years and he’ll now reportedly get a fresh start with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The former Badger will officially be released by the Broncos on Wednesday, when he will sign with Mike Tomlin’s squad for a veteran minimum $1.21 million. The rest of his 2024 salary, approximately $38 million, will come from Denver’s checkbook.

Wilson had a much better second season with the Broncos in 2023, recording 3,070 passing yards and 28 touchdowns while only throwing eight interceptions over 15 contests. His relationship with the team soured as a result of poor results in the win column as well as his unwillingness to revisit his contract.

Now at the age of 35, it’s possible that the quarterback will be given his last chance to be a starter in the NFL, joining a Steelers squad that made the postseason in 2023 with a 10-7 overall record.

Chiefs, DL Chris Jones agree to massive 5-year extension with $95M guaranteed

The #Chiefs signed star defensive lineman Chris Jones to a massive five-year extension that reportedly guarantees him $95 million.

The Kansas City Chiefs and veteran defensive lineman Chris Jones reached agreement Saturday on a five-year contract that includes $95 million in guarantees.

The contract will keep Jones in Kansas City until he is 34 years old and clears the way for the Chiefs to keep their championship defense intact for another season.

Jones’ new deal was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

While the finer details of the move have yet to be announced, fans in Kansas City are sure to be excited that one of the Chiefs’ cornerstone players will be with the team for the foreseeable future.

Jones tallied 10.5 sacks in 2023, playing for Kansas City on the franchise tag after holding out through training camp, the preseason and the Chiefs’ Week 1 loss against the Detroit Lions.

With his new deal, Jones will be among the highest-paid players ever at the defensive tackle position and should be expected to continue producing elite numbers in Steve Spagnuolo’s system.

Broncos could have gotten more for Jerry Jeudy in 2023

Broncos turned down 3rd- and 5th-round picks for Jerry Jeudy last fall, per Adam Schefter. Now they’ve accepted 5th- and 6th-round picks.

Hindsight is always 20/20, right?

Last year, the Denver Broncos held firm at the NFL’s in-season trade deadline, opting not to trade wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, safety Justin Simmons or anyone else despite being 3-5 going into their bye week.

The Broncos ended up finishing the year with an 8-9 record and they missed the playoffs. A few months later, Jeudy has been traded for a pair of late-round picks and Simmons was cut in exchange for salary cap space (which was needed, but picks would have been helpful as well).

Denver probably could have gotten more for Jeudy had they traded him before the in-season deadline last fall, and even getting a late-round pick for Simmons would have been better than releasing him for nothing.

During an interview on 104.3 The Fan last November, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said, “I believe they [the Broncos] got offered a three and five” during trade talks for Jeudy. If that’s accurate, Denver turned down third- and fifth-round picks in 2023 only to later accept fifth- and sixth-round picks for the same player in 2024.

This is yet another poor result for general manager George Paton, who has fumbled numerous free agent signings and trades in recent seasons. One has to wonder just how long until the Broncos might cut Paton as well.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter breaks down Bills releasing Jordan Poyer, Tre’Davious White (video)

ESPN’s Adam Schefter breaks down Bills releasing Jordan Poyer, Tre’Davious White (video):

The Buffalo Bills had to make a bunch of tough decisions.

Plenty of former Pro Bowlers and fan favorites were released this week because of salary cap concerns. Among them were the likes of cornerback Tre’Davious White and safety Jordan Poyer.

The series of cuts caught the NFL world off guard. ESPN’s Adam Schefter did his best in breaking it all down, which can be found in the clip below:

Former Commanders coach Ron Rivera is now an ESPN analyst

Rivera reveals who his pick would be if he were still in charge of the Commanders.

It didn’t take long for former Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera to land on his feet. On Wednesday’s edition of NFL Live on ESPN, Rivera was revealed as one of the network’s new analysts.

Rivera was fired on Jan. 8 after four seasons as head coach/GM of the Commanders with a record of 26-40-1. Rivera immediately told John Keim of ESPN he still wanted to coach, even if it meant being a defensive coordinator. Rivera enjoyed focusing more on Washington’s defense late last season after firing Jack Del Rio.

Rivera interviewed for two defensive coordinator positions, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. Those jobs eventually went to Vic Fangio and Mike Zimmer, respectively.

Rivera could return to coaching, but for now, he will give his perspective on the NFL from the media side.

Adam Schefter immediately put Rivera on the spot in his debut, asking him if he were still in Washington what would be his quarterback plan.

“You know the big thing, more than anything else, is you have to look at the is style of offense they’re going to run,” Rivera said. “You’ve got Kliff Kingsbury, a guy that likes the mobile quarterback. The quarterback that can move in the pocket, that can make the plays when they’re downfield and throw the football. I think the big thing is you’ve got to have a mobile quarterback.”

So, who will that be, Coach?

“Jayden Daniels, because of the fact that everybody expects Caleb (Williams) to go first,” Rivera answered. “So, to me, if this is the style of offense you’re going to have, you’ve got to have that type of quarterback. A guy that can, again, move around in the pocket, hold onto the football, find guys downfield.”

Here’s the full clip in case you wanted to see Rivera:

Most Washington fans probably aren’t ready to hear Rivera’s opinions on the draft, considering his record of doing such over the past four seasons.

Rivera should excel in his new role. He’s well-liked, well-respected and obviously has contacts throughout the league. And, most importantly, he seems happy.
