Every NFL team’s receiving leader from the 2023 regular season

Each team’s leader in receiving yards from 2023

Look, we know the Carolina Panthers had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year—particularly on offense. But fair is fair, and we already gave you passing and rushing leaders.

So, let’s finish it out and run through each team’s leader in receiving yards from the 2023 regular season.

2023 Cardinals breakout player of the year: TE Trey McBride

The 2023 Cardinals’ breakout player of the year was easy. It was TE Trey McBride.

The Arizona Cardinals’ season is over and now it is time to dole out some awards. The NFL has announced some awards as Pro Bowl rosters were announced and All-Pro teams have been named.

We have named the Cardinals’ MVP, their defensive player of the year and their rookie of the year.

Who was the Cardinals’ breakout player of the year in 2023?

This is an easy answer. The only player you can choose is second-year tight end Trey McBride.

McBride set single-season records for tight ends for the franchise.

He set a single-season franchise record for receptions by a tight end with 81, blowing away the previous record of 56. He did that after starting the season with only eight receptions in the first five games.

Based on his production over his final 10 games of the season, if he had done that over the entire season, he would have had 112 catches for over 1,100 yards.

His 825 receiving yards were second only in franchise history to Hall of Famer Jackie Smith’s 1,205 receiving yards by a tight end in 1967.

He emerged as one of the best tight ends in the league. He needs to do it over an entire season in 2024, but if he does, he will deserve recognition with George Kittle, Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews as one of the best in the NFL.

TE Trey McBride should hit multiple milestones vs. Seahawks

McBride entered Week 18 with 79 catches and 791 receiving yards.

Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride has had a great season. He already holds the single-season franchise record for receptions by a tight end and increases that with every catch.

He should hit two notable milestones against the Seattle Seahawks.

He enters the game with 78 catches for 791 yards.

Two catches will get him to 80 on the season, something no Cardinals tight end has ever done. Reaching 800 yards would be something only Hall of Famer Jackie Smith has done. With 21 receiving yards, reaching 811, he will have the second-highest single-season yardage total by a tight end.

If he catches 10 passes against the Seahawks, he would have three 10-catch games on the season. Only Zach Ertz with five such games in 2018 has had more in NFL history.

2 Cardinals players snubbed as Pro Bowl alternates

Budda Baker made the Pro Bowl but Trey McBride and Matt Prater weren’t even Pro Bowl alternates.

The NFL announced the AFC and NFC rosters for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games and one Arizona Cardinals player, safety Budda Baker, made the squad.

It was the sixth time he has made the Pro Bowl and the fifth season in a row.

It is no surprise that Baker is the only player to make the Pro Bowl.

What is surprising is that they had zero alternates.

The Cardinals always announce Pro Bowl selections and Pro Bowl alternates, so the lack of an announcement indicates that they did not have any this year.

Two Cardinals warranted consideration as possible alternates — tight end Trey McBride and kicker Matt Prater.

TE Trey McBride is lone Cardinal in top 10 in fan voting for Pro Bowl

McBride finished 10th in fan voting among tight ends for the Pro Bowl.

The NFL announced its rosters for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games. The Arizona Cardinals have a singular representative — safety Budda Baker, selected to the Pro Bowl for the fifth straight year as a starter and for the sixth time in his career.

He was selected because of the respect he has from coaches and players around the league. In past years, he has also been among the top votegetters at his position.

That was not the case this year.

Only one Cardinals player cracked the top 10 at his position and that is tight end Trey McBride.

He finished in 10th place among tight ends in fan voting.

Fan voting comes down to two things usually. One is how popular or good the player’s team is and the other is fantasy impact.

McBride’s statistical surge over the last several weeks has not gone unnoticed by fans.

His rising popularity combined with steady production to finish the year and hopefully into next season can hopefully propel him to more recognition in the future.

TE Trey McBride exits game with shoulder injury, returns

He injured his shoulder and taken to the locker room in the second quarter against the 49ers.

Tight end Trey McBride has been the Arizona Cardinals’ most productive target in the passing game over the last few games.

He had three receptions for 61 yards in the first quarter against the San Francisco 49ers but exited the game in the second quarter.

He was taken to the locker room and it was announced he was questionable to return with a shoulder injury.

The Cardinals trailed the 49ers 14-10 at that point.

Trey McBride sets new single-season record vs. 49ers

His catch on the second play of the game gave him 57 on the season, the most by a tight end in a season in franchise history.

Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride is already having one of the best seasons a tight end has had in franchise history. After tying the franchise’s single-season record for receptions by a tight end with 56.

It didn’t take long to set the record against the 49ers.

He caught an 11-yard pass from Kyler Murray on the second play from scrimmage, giving him 57 on the season. He added a 38-yard catch on the possession before Arizona took a 7-0 lead on a James Conner two-yard touchdown.

McBride, who started the season with only eight receptions in the first five weeks, has emerged as a budding star.

He will continue to set a record with every catch he makes the rest of the season. He entered the game with 610 receiving yards. Only one player — Hall of Famer Jackie Smith — had more receiving yards in a season.

McBride, if he reaches 811 yards, will have the second-highest single-season total by a tight end. Smith’s 1,205 receiving yards is the highest total by a tight end in franchise history.
