Eagles vs. Bucs Wild Card preview: 7 things to know about Tampa Bay

We’re previewing the Philadelphia Eagles NFC Wild Card matchup and looking at seven things to know about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Philadelphia went 1-5 down the stretch, but Nick Sirianni’s team advanced to the postseason for the third year in a row, finishing with an 11-6 record.

Despite the embarrassing conclusion to the regular season, the Eagles finished seventh in points per game. Still, they maintain the NFL’s top offensive line and a dynamic duo at the wide receiver position.

They face a familiar foe on the road when they travel to Tampa to face the 9-8 Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.

The Bucs and Eagles have a storied playoff history, having met five previous times, including Tampa Bay’s NFC Championship Game in Philadelphia in 2002 to close out Veteran’s Stadium. The most recent postseason meeting came just two years ago in 2021 in Jalen Hurts’ first road playoff start, Tampa won, 31-15.

This year’s playoff matchup is a rematch of a Week 3 meeting at Raymond James Stadium that Philadelphia won 25-11.

With on-field preparation set to begin at the NovaCare Complex, we’re looking at seven things about the Eagles Wild Card opponent.

Bucs injury update on Day 2 of OTAs

Here are the Bucs players currently hampered by injury as OTAs continue.

It is Day 2 of the first set of OTAs for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and some players are dealing with injuries as the offseason is underway.

FOX Sports’ Greg Auman reported on the team’s injuries on Wednesday, from those who are at OTAs and not practicing to those who are not at OTAs due to their injuries.

Here are the players who are at OTAs, but not practicing due to injury:

  • RB Chase Edmonds
  • RB Sean Tucker
  • DB Duron Lowe
  • TE Dominque Dafney

And here are the players not at OTAs due to injury:

  • G Aaron Stinnie
  • WR Russell Gage

RB Chase Edmonds had an ankle injury last November that could still be keeping him out of OTAs, though his exact injury is unknown. RB Sean Tucker is still dealing with the issue that was flagged at the NFL Combine and is expected to be cleared for training camp. WR Russell Gage’s injury is a new development, as QB Baker Mayfield spoke about it on Tuesday, and Stinnie tore his ACL in the preseason in 2022, so it’s possible he could still be recovering from that — that isn’t confirmed, however.

Tampa Bay will certainly hope that these players will be ready by training camp, though it’s hard to give a timetable for a few of them since their injuries are undisclosed at the time.

New contract details emerge for G Aaron Stinnie

Stinnie’s contract includes two roster bonuses, one which has already been paid out.

[autotag]Aaron Stinnie[/autotag] re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the beginning of free agency, and now his contract details are officially known.

Stinnie’s deal was originally reported to be up to $2.5 million, but it appears that this isn’t the case. FOX Sports’ Greg Auman reported on Thursday that Stinnie’s deal is a one-year deal, but is set at a $1.15 million base salary and a $250,000 roster bonus that has already been paid on March 19 — there’s also a $100k roster bonus should he be on the team Week 1, which is a highly likely outcome.

That would make Stinnie’s deal worth around $1.5 million when he’s on the roster Week 1, which is around $1 million less than was initially reported. The Bucs should get great value out of that contract for Stinnie, as he’s a veteran guard who has displayed flashes of solid play in his time with Tampa Bay.

Report: Bucs re-signing guard Aaron Stinnie

The Bucs are shoring up on o-line depth after the departure of Shaq Mason.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are shoring up on offensive line depth for the 2023 season.

ESPN’s Jon Ledyard reported on Tuesday that the Bucs are re-signing guard [autotag]Aaron Stinnie[/autotag]. Stinnie is getting a one-year deal that could be worth up to $2.5 million.

Stinnie was set to compete for playtime in 2022 as a guard before he tore his ACL and MCL in a preseason game against his old team in the Tennessee Titans. With the re-signing, a healed-up Stinnie will once again be in the mix to play guard after the departure of veteran guard Shaq Mason on Monday. He’s the same age as Mason, though, so the 29-year-old may have to compete with younger talent on the Bucs’ roster.

Bucs place G Aaron Stinnie, OLB Cam Gill on injured reserve

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed guard Aaron Stinnie and outside linebacker Cam Gill on injured reserve, ending their 2022 seasons

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without a key player on each side of the ball for the rest of the 2022 season.

Guard Aaron Stinnie (knee) and outside linebacker Cam Gill (foot) were both placed on injured reserve, the team announced Monday.

Stinnie suffered a torn ACL and MCL during Saturday night’s preseason loss to the Tennessee Titans, while Gill sustained a Lisfranc injury in Tampa Bay’s exhibition opener against the Miami Dolphins.

Stinnie was competing for the Bucs’ starting left guard spot, while Gill was expected to provide depth on the edge of the defensive front.

By placing both players on injured reserve now instead of after final roster cuts prior to Week 1, they will be out for the season, instead of eligible to return at some point during the year.

Bucs G Aaron Stinnie has torn ACL/MCL, out for 2022 season

Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Aaron Stinnie reportedly suffered a torn ACL and MCL during Saturday night’s preseason loss

Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Aaron Stinnie suffered a torn ACL and MCL, per multiple reports.

Stinnie suffered the injury late in the third quarter of Saturday night’s preseason loss to the Tennessee Titans, and had to be carted off the field.

A reliable veteran who started for the Bucs throughout their entire playoff run all the way to a Super Bowl win in 2020, Stinnie was competing for the starting left guard spot vacated by Ali Marpet’s retirement this offseason.

This is yet another crushing blow to a Tampa Bay offensive line that’s already without Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen, due to a knee injury of his own.

With Stinnie out, expect the left guard job to fall to rookie second-round pick Luke Goedeke.

Bucs G Aaron Stinnie carted off with knee injury

Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Aaron Stinnie left Saturday night’s preseason game with a knee injury

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lost another offensive lineman to injury.

Guard Aaron Stinnie appeared to suffer a knee injury late in the third quarter of Saturday night’s preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, and had to be carted off the field.

Stinnie was competing for the starting left guard job, and the Bucs are already without Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen, who suffered his own knee injury on the second day of training camp. All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs is also nursing a strained oblique.

Bucs still have ‘open competition’ for starting left guard spot

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers still have a tight battle taking place for one of their starting spots in the offensive trenches

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost both of their starting offensive guards this offseason, with Ali Marpet’s shocking retirement, and Alex Cappa signing with the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency.

Trading for a quality veteran in Shaq Mason filled Cappa’s spot on the right side, but Marpet’s absence on the left gave way to a wide-open race to claim a rare opening in the starting lineup for a Super Bowl contender.

Rookie Luke Goedeke is battling with returning veterans like Aaron Stinnie for that job, and though the more experienced players appear to be getting more reps with the first-team unit, the second-round pick from Central Michigan is still in the thick of the race.

After Friday’s practice, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles acknowledged the while the veterans might be getting more of the early snaps, it’s still an open competition heading into the preseason.

“He still gets in the mix,” Bowles said of Goedeke. “The other guys have been here. Experience-wise, as we install, they kind of know it already. It’s good for Luke to see somebody do it before he does it, rather than just go out there and just make a mistake that way. We’re getting the older guys in there some that [have] been here. As he gets experience, he’ll play a lot. It’s still an open competition.”

Performance in the preseason games is sure to go a long way towards deciding who replaces Marpet when the Bucs line up against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.

Bucs claim Aaron Stinnie off waivers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently in the midst of more roster moves.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially claimed offensive guard Aaron Stinnie off waivers. In the midst of the transaction, the Bucs waived Nate Trewyn to make room on the team’s 53-man roster.

Stinnie joins the Buccaneers after being released from the Titans earlier this week. His stint with the Titans includes seeing action in one game last year and three this year. However, he hasn’t played the last six games.

The 6-foot-2, 312 pound powerhouse made Tennessee’s roster in 2018 after a successful college career at James Madison. He originally joined the league as an undrafted free agent.

According to the Bucs’ official website, Stinnie has experience playing interior line and tackle which should hopefully ignite a spark in the Bucs offensive line.
