List of remaining unsigned Bears free agents

The Bears have a number of free agents who remain unsigned this offseason. Here’s a look:

The Chicago Bears are in the midst of the final phase of their offseason program, where they’re gearing up for the final week of Organized Week Activities (OTAs) before veteran minicamp next week wraps things up ahead of training camp.

The Bears have a number of remaining free agents that still aren’t signed, including safety DeAndre Houston-Carson, wide receiver Byron Pringle and linebacker Joe Thomas.

Cowboys’ offseason process not loved universally

Not everyone believes the Cowboys’ offseason has been as productive as it could have been. | From @BenGrimaldi

Most observers feel like the 2023 offseason has been a much different exercise than normal for the Dallas Cowboys. Instead of only looking to re-sign their own players and turn their attention to the draft, they engaged in the trade market to acquire necessary help at their most needy positions. One outlet, however, didn’t see it that way.

Pro Football Focus gave the Cowboys a B- for their offseason work. Considering how unique this offseason has felt, that grade won’t sit right with many fans.

Acquiring veteran talent through trades for draft picks has not been a well-traveled path for Dallas. While they may not have spent big in free agency, there was a lackluster group of targets available, making it an acceptable stance this particular offseason.

Their overall work hardly feels like it deserves a barely above average grade.

Bears receive solid offseason grade from PFF

It’s been an eventful offseason for the Bears, who’ve earned glowing reviews from around the league.

It’s been an eventful offseason for the Chicago Bears, where general manager Ryan Poles continued to retool the roster in his second season.

Chicago made waves both in free agency and the 2023 NFL draft, where the biggest highlight was trading the No. 1 pick in the draft to the Carolina Panthers for draft picks and wide receiver DJ Moore.

Pro Football Focus‘ Sam Monson graded every NFL team’s offseason following the NFL draft, and the Bears earned an impressive mark. Chicago received an A- for their 2023 offseason so far.

Chicago’s offseason evaluation begins with the decision to commit to Justin Fields going forward and not replace him with a rookie quarterback at the top of the draft. Doing so enabled the Bears to trade down to No. 9 overall and acquire a No. 1 receiver for Fields in the process (D.J. Moore). Their approach to talent this offseason seems to have involved some significant appetite for risk, but the potential payoff is huge.

In free agency, they invested heavily in linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and made a much more modest signing of perennial overachiever T.J. Edwards. In the draft, Darnell Wright has a highlight reel of crushing blocks but one of the worst run-blocking profiles of any top pick in recent memory. Interior defensive linemen Gervon Dexter Sr. and Zacch Pickens each has physical tools but didn’t display impact play in college. Chicago did mitigate risk well with contingency plans at several spots, so overall this was a big jump for a roster that had been torn down a year ago.

The Bears didn’t overspend in free agency, despite having the most salary cap space at roughly $100 million. Instead, Poles addressed some needs at linebacker (Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards), offensive line (Nate Davis), defensive line (Andrew Billings, DeMarcus Walker) and skill position players (D’Onta Foreman, Robert Tonyan).

Chicago also found some potential impact contributors in the draft, including plug-and-play right tackle Darnell Wright at No. 10. They also shored up the defensive line with Gervon Dexter and Zacch Pickens, upgraded in the secondary with Tyrique Stevenson and added some potential steals in Roschon Johnson, Tyler Scott and Terell Smith.

14 Bears free agents remain unsigned as OTAs begin

As the Bears kick off OTAs, here’s a look at their remaining free agents who are still unsigned.

The next phase of the Chicago Bears’ offseason kicks off with organized team activities (OTAs) on Monday.

General manager Ryan Poles continued to retool the roster this offseason with an influx of new faces in free agency, as well as his second NFL draft class. Outside of adding another veteran edge rusher and some depth pieces, Chicago appears all but set with their current roster.

Here’s a look at the 14 Bears free agents who are still available on the free agent market:

Four positions of need for the Bucs after the 2023 NFL draft

What do you think is Tampa Bay’s biggest positon of need at the moment?

The NFL draft has concluded and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked up eight new players, but they didn’t fill every need they had on the roster.

There are still a few positions on the team that could use a starting player, and there are others still that are lacking in depth beyond the starting front. Here are four of those positions that the team still needs to address after its rookies from the draft process come in:

Unsigned Bucs free agents after the NFL draft

11 Bucs free agents still haven’t found a home.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had 33 free agents heading into the 2023 season.

Two of them — QB Tom Brady and RB Giovani Bernard — retired (so they won’t be included on this list). 20 of them have found a place to play, be it Tampa Bay or elsewhere, and 11 of them still have yet to be signed by an NFL team at this point in the offseason.

Take a look at those 11 players below:

19 Bears free agents are still unsigned after 2023 NFL draft

Now that the 2023 NFL draft has concluded, here’s a look at the 19 Bears free agents who remain unsigned.

The 2023 NFL draft has concluded, and the Chicago Bears have added 10 new rookies to their roster.

But this is also a time when NFL teams will be looking to free agency again to address roster needs coming out of the draft. Chicago still has needs at edge rusher and could add depth at safety and tight end, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see general manager Ryan Poles look to this current free agent market to address them (especially one name in DeAndre Houston-Carson).

There are 19 Bears free agents who are still unsigned, which includes several players who were released this offseason. Here’s a look:

20 best remaining free agents the Bears should target after NFL draft

With the NFL draft in the books, here are some veteran free agents the Bears should consider targeting.

The 2023 NFL draft is in the books, and the Chicago Bears have welcomed 10 new rookies to the roster.

Now, the third wave of free agency is underway, where general manager Ryan Poles has an opportunity to address some positions that still need attention following the draft, including edge rusher and adding depth at safety, offensive line, defensive line, tight end and cornerback.

Also, beginning Monday at 3 p.m. CT, all free agent signings will no longer count against the compensatory formula, which means we could start seeing some teams making moves.

Here’s a look at some of the best available free agents the Bears could target in this third wave of free agency:

Another Cowboys QB loves idea of re-signing Ezekiel Elliott: ‘He’s the glue’

From @ToddBrock24f7: Troy Aikman joined those who believe much of what Elliott brings can’t be measured by stats and can’t be replaced by drafting a new player.

With every day that Ezekiel Elliott remains a free agent, the rumblings of a reunion with the Cowboys seem to grow louder and louder.

Especially if you ask a Cowboys quarterback.

While Dak Prescott admitted to feeling a mix of emotions upon starting voluntary workouts at the facility last week with Elliott no longer owning a locker in the building, it’s three-time Super Bowl winner Troy Aikman who has provided the latest fuel for the rumor mill regarding the franchise’s third-leading rusher possibly returning to the fold.

“I don’t want to speak for the Cowboys or the Joneses, but it feels like that might be the case,” Aikman said Friday while hosting a charity event in Dallas. “I know there’s a great amount of respect for Zeke. I think the question becomes, ‘Is Zeke capable of really having a reduced role?’ My guess is, knowing him the way that I do, that he would handle that fine. I thought he handled everything this past year really well.”

Elliott was released by the club in March following a down year that saw him post career-low numbers in several categories and finish last among starting rushers in yards per carry, tackles avoided, and percentage of runs that went for 10-plus yards.

But Aikman echoed earlier statements- by Jerry and Stephen Jones as well as Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy- who maintain that Elliott brings much more to the team than what shows up in the box score.

“I’ve talked to a number of people that have been in that locker room- coaches, players- and he’s the glue,” the Hall of Famer continued. “Losing those type of players- I’ve said it before- you don’t replace those guys. It’s really, really hard. We had some when I was playing: didn’t contribute much on the field during the games- he obviously would contribute more- but those that didn’t, they had a really big role in allowing us to do what we were able to do, and I think Zeke’s one of those people.”

But bringing Elliott back to Dallas on a new contract would require some degree of patience from both parties.

While it’s been reported that Elliott has yet to hear from another NFL team about a job, this weekend’s draft could change things. There will be a club who doesn’t come away from Kansas City with the running back they’re hoping for. There will be a club who wants to beef up their running attack prior to OTAs starting. There is always the chance that some club will see their backfield decimated by injury early in camp.

Declining skills or not, Elliott will be a commodity for whom there is a market that only grows with each day the regular season gets nearer.

Dallas is widely thought to be in the hunt for more rushing talent via the draft. And while some suspect the Cowboys will make a play for a top-tier back like Bijan Robinson or Jahmyr Gibbs, they could just as easily hang back and wait for someone like Deuce Vaughn or Mo Ibrahim.

Or they could decide to use the pick on a different position altogether and instead welcome back the two-time rushing champ to a stable that already includes Tony Pollard, Ronald Jones, and Malik Davis.

What Elliott’s exact on-the-field role would be in such a timeshare is anyone’s guess. But, as Aikman knows from experience, what the team gains off the field could prove to be just as vital.

“I think it’d be a great addition if they were able to work something out to bring him back.”

Feiler said he was excited to get to work with the Bucs.

OG [autotag]Matt Feiler[/autotag] is officially a Buccaneer, and he’s ready to get to work.

The new Bucs guard gave his first message to fans after signing with the team on Monday. Feiler’s message was more low-key than other Bucs signings have made so far, curtly saying that he’s excited to get to work with the team after signing his contract.

Feiler played for the Chargers for the last two years and started 33 games at guard. He also previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Check out the message in the tweet above.
