While he wore No. 91 at Iowa, Van Ness will wear No. 90 for the Packers. He could be an immediate contributor, both on the edge and as an interior rusher for the Packers as a rookie.

The Green Bay Packers used the 140th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft on Wake Forest offensive lineman Zach Tom, one of the most athletic and versatile players in the draft class.

5 things to know about Jashon Cornell

Identifying five things fans need to know about Detroit Lions defensive lineman Jashon Cornell.

The Detroit Lions ended their draft by picking defensive tackle Jashon Cornell from Ohio State. He seems like he could be a pretty decent guy.

Here’s what I found out about him.

  1.  He’s originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, and attended the same high school that produced Joe Mauer, Michael Floyd, Chris Weinke, and Steve Walsh. He’s also good friends with Frank Ragnow.
  2. In an interview that he did with The Spun, he feels that the team that drafts him will be getting a good interior pass-rusher. He added that he’ll be able to showcase his quickness and put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks. He thinks that his 2019 season was his best season yet.
  3. He makes the third Buckeye that was selected by the Lions in this year’s draft. This is the first time since 2007 that a team has drafted three former Ohio State players in the same draft.  Indianapolis was the last to do it.
  4. He started all 14 games for Ohio State last season, and had 30 tackles, with 6.5 tackles for losses, and four sacks.
  5. He graduated with a degree in family resource management and also hospitality management.

Welcome to Detroit Jashon! If you like to get after quarterbacks, we love to see it!

Here are five things fans need to know about Detroit Lions’ sixth-round pick, defensive tackle John Penisini.

In the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft, the Lions grabbed a defensive tackle at pick 197: John Penisini from Utah.

Here are five things you’ll want to know about Penisini.

  1.  He played on a defensive line with Bradlee Anae and Leki Fotu who were taken by the Cowboys and Cardinals respectively. The combination of those three made them one of the toughest defensive fronts in all of college football
  2. His defensive coordinator, Morgan Scalley, is very impressed by his work ethic and his will to win. Fotu said that he’s one of the hardest workers on the team, and is super smart on the field.
  3. He started playing college football at Snow Junior College, and then transferred to Utah as a sophomore. Over his collegiate career, he played in 40 games and started in 22 of them. He was second on the defensive line with 38 tackles, including seven tackles for losses and two sacks.
  4. According to Tim Twentyman, Penisini also has a rugby background. He played rugby most of his younger years.  He didn’t switch to football until his senior year in high school.
  5. He graduated with a degree in sociology, and also, apparently is starting to get into painting.

5 things to know about Jason Huntley

Here are five things fans need to know about Detroit Lions fifth-round pick, New Mexico State, running back/kick returner Jason Huntley.

I wasn’t exactly thinking the Lions would draft another running back right now, but here we are. So, what are five things can I tell you about the newest running back and speedster Jason Huntley?

He’s fast. How fast is he you ask?

  1.  While he didn’t get a combine invitation, he was able to have a Pro Day before the COVID restrictions hit.  He ran a 4.37 (or 4.4 flat, I’ve seen both) 40-yard-dash.  He would have been tops among the running backs had he been in Indy.
  2. In his 2019 season, he rushed for almost 1,100 yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught 40 passes, and two of those were touchdowns as well. According to his coach Doug Martin, he can also be used as a slot receiver — so, he’s got some versatility to him.
  3. Staying with the versatility theme, he’s the only running back in this class to also have over 1,000 receiving yards in college as well.
  4. Most people already have him pegged as a potential kick returner on special teams and over his college career he returned five kickoffs for touchdowns.
  5. He played against Central Michigan University this past season when he had this impressive run:

Welcome to Detroit Jason! Just watch out for those speed traps that pop up every now and then, and you’ll be great!

5 things to know about Logan Stenberg

Here are five things fans need to know about Detroit Lions fourth-round pick, Kentucky guard, Logan Stenberg.

After trading back with the Raiders, the Lions picked up offensive lineman Logan Stenberg from University of Kentucky.  I just so happened to find some pretty interesting facts about him that I felt you should know.

  1.  He’s been called mean and nasty. Not necessarily as a person, but more of a player.  And not in the “dirty player” type of player either. According to an article by Marcus Dorsey, he would maul opposing defensive linemen. Another thing that stuck out, was that he was called a toothless giant in the title of the article. I think he’s got teeth…right?
  2. He got an offer, (and obviously accepted) to Kentucky, but Ole Miss had been on his radar. When he spoke with Ole Miss, he said that if they weren’t going to offer him a scholarship, he wasn’t coming. Not even on a visit. They didn’t offer him.
  3. After redshirting his freshman year, he started every game of his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He made first-team all-SEC in his final season.
  4. He’s stayed after practice to help with events like the Special Olympics.
  5. His nickname is “Stenny” and his favorite movie is Forrest Gump.

5 things to know about offensive lineman Jonah Jackson

Here are five things to know about Detroit Lions third-round pick, offensive lineman Jonah Jackson.

The Detroit Lions are getting a much-needed addition to the offensive line in Jonah Jackson.

Here are five things to know about the former Ohio State offensive lineman.

  1.  He was a graduate transfer from Rutgers. During his time at Rutgers, he was part of a line that was 2nd in the Big Ten and 19th nationally with only 1.33 sacks allowed per game. He’s also expected to be one of the only Rutgers Alumni to be selected in the draft.
  2. Like most players coming out of college, he’s ready to contribute anywhere he can. He even said that he’d play quarterback if needed. Don’t worry, I think the Lions have that covered.
  3. He was in Mobile at the senior bowl and played on coach Matt Patricia’s North team. He obviously left a great impression on the staff.
  4. Once he got to Ohio State, he started every single game at left guard and got first-team All-Big Ten Honors. He will join former Buckeyes Taylor Decker and Jeff Okudah.
  5. When he was at Rutgers, he was a criminal justice major.

Welcome to Detroit Jonah! Let’s get going!

5 things to know about Julian Okwara

Get to know the Detroit Lions third-round pick. Here are five things to know about EDGE rusher Julian Okwara.

As we enter the third round, we get to welcome another much-needed player to the team, Julian Okwara, EDGE from Notre Dame.

Here are a few things to know about the newest Lions player.

  1.  First and foremost he’s the brother of current Lion defensive end Romeo Okwara. They moved from Nigeria to the States when Julian was 8 years old. He also followed his brother to Notre Dame.
  2. He was a team captain at Notre Dame in 2019.  Unfortunately, his season got cut short due to a broken fibula. Because of his injury, he didn’t do much in the Combine, but he did have 27 bench press reps.
  3. I’ve seen 3 different places listed as his place of birth: London, England, Charlotte, NC and Nigeria.  The only consistent thing is that he was born on December 27, 1997. You can’t always trust the internet kids.
  4. He was a student at the Mendoza College of Business and was a management consulting major.
  5. Julian and Romeo are among at least four other sibling sets that play in the NFL. They join the Watt brothers, the Griffin brothers, McCourty brother, and the Edmunds brothers.

Welcome to Detroit Julian! Let’s hope your brother doesn’t play too many rookie jokes on you!
