Where Wisconsin’s 2022 recruiting class lands in On3’s rankings

A look at where Wisconsin lands in On3’s rankings of the 2022 recruiting classes

With the 2022 class now set in stone for Wisconsin and a number of programs around the country, where do the Badgers stand compared to the nation’s best?

The first note about Wisconsin’s 2022 class is that 2021 was a historic recruiting win for the Badgers, as they finished with their highest-ranked group in the modern recruiting era. They didn’t need to bring in volume with this group, but instead focused on a few positions of need.

The result is a 15-man class that includes 5 four-star talents according to On3 recruiting.

At the top of the 2022 rankings are three SEC programs, followed by Ohio State leading the way for the Big Ten. Here is a look at the top 40 recruiting classes in 2022 and where the Badgers land in the mix:

Two Notre Dame commits make big jumps in Rivals 2022 rankings

The Irish once again have shown a keen eye for recruiting

With the final signing period just over a week away, many recruiting outlets are finalizing their rankings for the 2022 class. Rivals today published their final update and when looking back they had two Irish commits seriously under-rated.

First on their list that made a big leap was defense end Aiden Gobaira, who went from outside the top-200 to firmly inside the top-100 at 82nd overall in the country. It wasn’t what Gobaira did during the season, it was his impressive all-star circuit that prompted the rise. “Gobaira hadn’t played against elite college prospects in the past but really performed well at the All-American Bowl and in the practices that week,” noted Adam Friedman, Rivals’ national recruiting analyst.

The other Notre Dame commit to make a move north was offensive lineman Aamil Wagner. The Ohio native went from 196th nationally all the way up to 124th, a jump of 72 spots. Friedman thinks that Wagner will be more of a project but “has the potential to be a multi-year starter for the Fighting Irish if he can add the necessary mass to his frame.” Remember the last “project” offensive lineman the Irish recently added to their roster? Well, Joe Alt was one of the best true-freshman in the country regardless of position.

Top ten 2022 national recruiting classes after the early signing period based on average talent rating

Which teams had the best average rating per recruit according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings? Where is Ohio State?

There are a few ways to examine the success of recruiting in college football. There’s the overall grade based on volume and talent, there’s filling needs on the roster that’s coming back, and then there’s the average talent rating per prospect. In reality, you have to take all of them into account, but going solely on overall points based on the 247Sports Composite Ratings can be misleading for programs that were never going to pull in a lot of recruits because of what’s coming back for the next season.

At a place like Ohio State, the reality is that there’s success in almost all areas of recruiting, but now that the early signing period is pretty much in the books, we thought it would be interesting to see which programs did the best according to average talent rating per commit. The Buckeyes are always up there, as are places like Alabama and even Georgia as of late, but how do things line up for the 2022 recruiting cycle?

Here are the top ten 2022 recruiting classes based on average talent rating based on metrics from the 247Sports Composite Rankings. This is so far, before any more news that might come out from here until the traditional signing day in February.

Top 25 national recruiting classes by team after early 2022 signing period

A look at the top 25 overall college football recruiting classes for the 2022 cycle according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Where is Ohio State?

The first few days of the latest early signing period has come and gone, and now we are left to take stock in which programs excelled in bringing in the talent to compete for especially big things, Ohio State included. The Buckeyes are routinely among the best at attracting and signing some of the best high school talent in the country, and it looks to be no different for the 2022 recruiting cycle.

But just how high up are the Buckeyes when it comes to the team rankings? We’ve already taken a look at the rankings among the Big Ten teams, where OSU leads the way, but where is Ohio State nationally?

Here are the 2022 top 25 college football classes according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, listed from 25 all the way to the top. There’s still more to be added, but what we have here will be pretty close to where things end after more players make their decisions from here through the traditional national signing day in February.

Georgia football now has nation’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class

The Georgia Bulldogs have jumped the Ohio State Buckeyes to have the nation’s No.1-ranked recruiting class

The Georgia Bulldogs have jumped the Ohio State Buckeyes to have the nation’s No.1-ranked recruiting class. Kirby Smart and the University of Georgia have 12 commitments in the class of 2022.

The recruiting rankings shifted following updated rankings across sites that contribute into the 247Sports composite rankings.

Georgia has two five-star commitments in Deyon Bouie and Malaki Starks. Additionally, UGA has eight four-star commitments including Bear Alexander, Jalon Walker, and Gunner Stockton.

The Dawgs recently got a commitment from punter Brett Thorson, who is from Australia. Thorson received a big boost in the rankings and is now considered a three-star prospect.

Georgia, Ohio State, LSU, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M have the top five recruiting classes in the country right now. Alabama, Texas, and Clemson have very talented classes too, but their groups are much smaller at the moment.

Overall, it is very early in the class of 2022 recruiting cycle. Prospects can begin visiting campuses in person again in June. Many recruits have been unable to take an official visit, so players could reconsider their decisions after seeing campuses and building in-person relationships with coaches this year.

The Alabama Crimson Tide can be counted on the finish with the top recruiting class in the country. Georgia has been able to take that title away from Alabama a few times in recent seasons, but is has not translated on the field.

Thus far, Kirby Smart has done an excellent job recruiting the class of 2022. UGA has commitments from five of the top 11 players in Georgia. If the Dawgs can keep elite in-state talent at home, then they will be contending for the top recruiting class every year.
