Georgia football now has nation’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class

The Georgia Bulldogs have jumped the Ohio State Buckeyes to have the nation’s No.1-ranked recruiting class. Kirby Smart and the University of Georgia have 12 commitments in the class of 2022.

The recruiting rankings shifted following updated rankings across sites that contribute into the 247Sports composite rankings.

Georgia has two five-star commitments in Deyon Bouie and Malaki Starks. Additionally, UGA has eight four-star commitments including Bear Alexander, Jalon Walker, and Gunner Stockton.

The Dawgs recently got a commitment from punter Brett Thorson, who is from Australia. Thorson received a big boost in the rankings and is now considered a three-star prospect.

Georgia, Ohio State, LSU, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M have the top five recruiting classes in the country right now. Alabama, Texas, and Clemson have very talented classes too, but their groups are much smaller at the moment.

Overall, it is very early in the class of 2022 recruiting cycle. Prospects can begin visiting campuses in person again in June. Many recruits have been unable to take an official visit, so players could reconsider their decisions after seeing campuses and building in-person relationships with coaches this year.

The Alabama Crimson Tide can be counted on the finish with the top recruiting class in the country. Georgia has been able to take that title away from Alabama a few times in recent seasons, but is has not translated on the field.

Thus far, Kirby Smart has done an excellent job recruiting the class of 2022. UGA has commitments from five of the top 11 players in Georgia. If the Dawgs can keep elite in-state talent at home, then they will be contending for the top recruiting class every year.
